Met Phil in 2005 at a clinic and he was the nicest guy. Meeting your idol in life is pretty special. For those looking for Phil recordings, listen to Live at the Showboat. Phil in his prime. As for the mouthpiece, thank you Aaron for doing this, You, Navarro. iReedman and Klum are the only guys who carry the torch on helping hacks like me play better. No need to spend $600 for a MPC, that's just nuts.
The facing on this Phil Woods 5M is .76 which is equivalent to many 6 medium current production mouthpieces. So it is larger than its number 5 would suggest. I just ordered one and cant wait to try it out.
Just got this MP in the mail. Man it is free blowing, full tone and even throughout range, and the high notes pop! It is pretty flexible so it is going to take some time to control this beast.
Hi Paul..!! Please, how would you compare the New Yorker 5 Retro Rivaval that you played in a older video to this Aaron Drake Phil Woods 5 ?? And wich one do you prefer, pls ??
Pedro David Rodrigues this It’s personal preference because both are excellent mail pieces, but I prefer the Phil Woods 5. What are the best Alto pieces I’ve ever played

Rest In Peace legend Phil Woods 🙏you sound great and definitely did him justice by your playing 🙌
I studied with Phil and his sound was about his breath support concept, not his mouthpiece, but you sound great and very Phil-ish on this piece.
Of all the “NY Meyer” styled pieces-this one is by far the most authentic sounding. Great playing!!
I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the Ted Klum Acoustimax mouthpiece.
What ligature do You use? I have Vandoren Optimum and it dose not fit perfectly.
