- In a recent blog post George R R Martin has announced that the in development House Of The Dragon Spin Off focused on the youth of Corlys Velaryon, the sea snake has now moved from live action to an animated project. In this video we're going to breakdown why this will be a good thing and well as why it ultimately had to be done. We will also be touching upon when this also means for the future of the other Game Of Thrones Spin Offs currently in development.

The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on George R R Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series. I think this is better than a live action show , animation can truly grasp the more fantastical elements of Martin's world
All of a song of ice and fire should be animated so it can be adapted as closely to the books as possible. You won't have to worry about character ages or scaling down the size of castles or battles.
I think somehow it is still illegal to show underaged characters in sexual actions or close to that, even if they are animated. That’s part of the reason why they aged Daenerys, since in the UK I think showing even underaged fictional characters that way could get you into trouble. Though showing life in any place in the world besides the modern day westernized countries without touching the topic of ‘underaged’ (that concept is really a western modern one) persons being in sexual relationships is like showing a face without a nose
I like this idea, I also want them to animate more ASOIAF including the Tourney at Harrenhal buildup to Roberts Rebellion
GRRM continues to point to much of the animation done on NETFLIX, especially Love Death and Robots, so i think the style for this particular Sea Snake series may be inspired by that. I think " In Vaulted Halls Entombed " might be one source, considering the more dramatic and darker nature of GRRM's work, along with the mystery and otherworldy of the locations Corlys visits.

I still think they're prioritizing Nymeria for live action - the scale is larger but goes to fewer locations

I think its a great idea with how large and interesting the world of Westeros is it makes sense to animated instead of making a live action. There's just somethings in the story that would be far too expensive to shoot and would not do justice to the story.
I think this is good. Honestly how much live action can they source from Corlys sailing to far of places and collecting treasures? I mean we are already gonna see how his story ends in HotD
shows/movies like invincible, spiderverse, jjk s2, clone wars s7, tales of the jedi, young justice, all prove that animation is the superior media and now we might also get book accurate purple eyes. animation in recent years has just proven that it’s become limitless and is the best avenue for fantasy storytelling
While extremely stylized, Genndy Tartakovskys style would be a unique but potentially fantastic for ASOIF

This is a relie honestly. I think they can naturally explain Corlys’s dark skin by them being descended from freedmen who worked their way up and intermarried in Valyria before the doom. I think it is a great way to show Jahares I and his largely peaceful reign. You can also show him courting his wife, and also fighting in the battle where her father is killed. (I don’t recall if he was present, but as it was a naval action, I think it’s very likely).
think game ASOIAF shows should almost always be animation. The chacters have cartoony features and the locations are almost impossible to replicate faithfully in live action. now give me my god damn robert's rebellion show!!
While I’m bummed it’s not live action, it makes all the sense in the world to move to animated, and I’m still really excited for the show.
I think the key will be the quality of animation. If it’s cheesy, glossy Batman style won’t work. No anime style either.
When I ascended the Driftwood Throne, I knew what I wanted. So I went out and seized it. I’m thrilled I knew it would come to animation because of the budget plus locations. I hope Steve Toussaint comes back and does the voice over.
He said he'd love to do voice work for the show even if it's just him at the start as an older Corlys gathering his grandkids to tell them a story which then flashes back to younger Corlys and kicks off the real story.
50 bucks says this show flops. Aside from the hardcore ASOIAF fans I don't see anyone wanting to see this or bothering to watch it.
I hear what your saying and agree somewhat. But I feel like the problem with GoT near the end was catering to the social viewer.
Don't get me wrong, I would gladly pay out that 50 bucks if it means the shows successful. The thing is though the hardcore fans are not what is important to a studio, they want the social viewers. If it doesn't spawn a thousand memes and watch parties on youtube it will be canceled. A lot social or casual views will 100% scoff at anything that is animated and won't even give it a shot. @@matthewcluff6835

Since it’s going to be animated, they could still have Steve Toussant playing (younger) Corlys! I think we all associate his voice with that character pretty strongly!
I personally am not disappointed even though live action would be better I’m sure animation is what this series needs and I’ll be watching

A pilot was filmed for a live action Long Night series titled "Bloodmoon". Ultimately it was scrapped because they realized GRRM didn't have enough concrete source material for those characters and the time period. Those same problems would persist even for an animated series
As long as it doesn't become some anime level bullshit and can retain that feel of "realism" I'd be very happy. I actually strongly dislike the style of Witchers animated series and Castlevanias.
A style similar to Arcane would be fantastic; expressing that realism as much as possible through animation while still benefitting from the inherent capability to depict the fantastical locations as well as doing the characters' looks justice

Omfg people! It’s a TV show, a visual medium. HBO already hired a dozen are so actors to portray White blonde characters. If the Valeryons are White too, then it makes shit confusing. Although not necessary for print, the TV show needed a clear way for viewers to know Rheanyera’s children are not of her Black husband. And the actor was fucking amazing.
