I am amazed at how, with all our advances, we don't have a straight up liquid or spray that can kill them once and for all... even the method in this video involves several products for several days and not even guaranteed to work... i know i've tried some other methods from other videos and no change...
For a time way back in the 70s or 80s there was talk about using treatments that would interrupt their ability to mate or would sterilize them but wouldn't affect other species. What happened with that line of research?
What if the drain flies are in a wall, like around a leaky window. You can't really pour forid in the wall, although you could probably spray bug spray in the cracks around the window. Any suggestions.
It can be difficult to get rid of depending on the amount of infestation and how long it's been going on. If it's really bad you need a drain gel or syrup most likely, because the old soda & vinegar trick may not be potent enough. Try to maintain simple drain cleaning every 2 or 3 months a year with the soda and vinegar.
I added detergent into the toilet drain. It can last for 1 week plus to 2 week without drain flies. I used this method continuously every 1 week plus to 2 week. Yes it works! I m so glad I finally resolve this issue.
I just removed my pipes under my sink and used a brush to scrub the hell out of the inside and used pressure washer to blast all the little critters out. Got it all nice and smooth inside. Gross but very satisfying. Make sure you wear eye protection or sun glasses cuz it's def getting in your eye lol
We had been dealing with doing sin gnats for a long long while! One day my husband had a moment. He checked the drain pipes to make sure they were S shaped drain. NO, NO they weren’t! So the gnats were leisurely breading living coming to visit through our straight sink drain. Needless to say we fixed the drain pipes that day.
Found some gnats in the sink overflow. Definitely weren't drain flies, fruit flies or phorid flies. Do gnats generally lay eggs in drains? And is that forid effective for the overflow channel as well?
Pls can I ask you a question? In an apartment block is it likely that my neighbours’ drains connected to mine? Could flies be coming in from their place? Thank you
My kitchen sink has not been draining well since I move in a year ago, so I never use the garbage disposal. The tiny moths ?or? drain flies.. dont fly around the drain, but are up on the ceiling. They started appearing shortly after I bought 75 pounds of different types of Grains. I put them into Dollar Tree containers that have screw tops, but that are NOT air tight!!
@@solutionspestandlawn Yes, thanks! All that is needed from now on is to make sure all drains don't dry up again. I hate regular houseflies, and it was no pleasure seeing these little guys sitting on my living room sofa. No type of fly survives in my home, mission to kill. Yuck.
All you need is Raid bug killer. You spray down / out the area very well and let it sit for at least a couple hours. Repeat the process once a day for 3 days. Problem solved.
You'll probably inhale some of that nasty bug killer! It's terrible for your health. Pesticides are one of the reasons many of mother nature's harmless creatures: lizards, horny toads, & turtles are rarely seen around human dwellings. BTW, wasps help keep spider populations down and we're certainly better off without such bug killers as you are promoting!!! Believe it or not, but please use more natural solutions for pest problems when you can!
How can I find out if my kitchen drain pipe is the source of my fruit fly problem? Yesterday I poured a concoction of White Vinegar- Baking soda- salt in my Kitchen drain and Bathroom drain. I still have some fruit flies which I kill by pouring cream soda in a cup and they drown in them. Two days ago I found 50 dead flies in my Cup.
Hi Jeffrey, thanks for watching! First we really recommend using Forid Drain Gel in your drains as baking soda and vinegar will not help get rid of the flies. You need Forid to actually dispose of the gunk down in the drain, flies' breeding site. If you don't treat the source, they will never go away! But to answer your question: if you want to check if a drain is the source of an infestation, a neat and simple trick is to put some sticky paper of the mouth of the drain -- double-sided tape on a piece of paper works well, but anything sticky that will completely cover the drain opening will work. Leave it overnight, and then check it the next day. The flies will get stuck on the tape as they leave the drain. Then you will know for sure if there are flies using the drain to enter your home or property!
@@sheenat6707 It should but it is kinda pricey ($39.99). EcoStrong has a drain and fruit fly eliminator for $24.94 that is highly rated. I think any enzymatic drain solution that dissolves organic matter will probably work when used regularly.
Check first and be sure you don't have a leak or a broken line in your plumbing before using any product. I had this same problem and I had a crack in my drain pipe under my house and I didn't know it one it was fixed it was done No more flies
Hi there - aside from the simple faucet sink leaks that I can check under the sink, how else could I check the other pipes? Beside from seeing a puddle or wet roof on the main floor or basement?
Oh yes! I live on the fourth (top) floor of my apartment, I clean everwhere regularly literally religiously. There is no way the problem is in my apartment. I asked my neighbors below and they said they have the flies too! How the hell am I even going to solve this then? It's not caused by me, but everyone has them.
A Starbucks guy told me : dry up the bowl ( waterless as much as possible ) pour liquid bleach 1 to 2 lits n fill the bowl with ice cubes till the brim n leave it for at least over night or 12 hours . Do it back to back 2 to 3 days n flies vanish . !
