Great review. I got this board in the blue carbon . Super light and easy to get to the water . Mine is set up as a quad. It definitely needs some push to get it going but it’s a super fun board. I want to set it up as a thruster to feel the difference in performance.
Glad you are enjoying the Wedge SUP David. The quad set-up must feel faster down the line than the thruster. The thruster would give some added performance when carving turns. Please let us know what difference you feel if you get to try it. Beau
Personally I love the colour ways on the new star boards same as my new hyper foil 🤙nice to see what I would have thought was a low performance board being thrown around. Good surfing dude 🤙
Great review! How this compare with the Starboard PRO 2021 9x30 in term of easiness to catch waves and stability ? I couldn't find any review for that one and I was hoping to have some insight from you guys? Thanks!
Hi Daniele. Thanks for the comment. We haven't tried the 9'0 Pro but going by the shape and design, the 9'0 x 30" Pro will paddle faster for waves because it it longer and narrower (which makes for speed). It also has more volume than the 8'7 Wedge, so will be buoyant. In terms of stability, I would say they are comparable however with more width on the 8'7 Wedge, we could generally say that it would have more side to side stability. The PRO would be for heavier advanced riders and the Wedge would be for more beginner-intermediate lighter weight riders. Hope that helps. Beau
@@SUPboardermag man, i always Wonder how you surf barefoot in such temp, feet must be completely numb in 5 minutes, max🙈.. I know, you feel the board better, but whats the point if you dont feel your feet? Plus heaps of snot after the ses😁
Great review. I love the way you highlight outline and rocker shape. You folks do far and away the best SUP reviews around and other gear review sites could learn a thing or to from SUP Boarder - two thumbs up! Looks like a great board and improvement. I'd be curious how this compares to the Starboard Pro 8'7" especially in those moderate, mushier waves?
Hi Chris, thanks for the kind words. Yes, the 8'7 Pro shape would be interesting to compare against the Wedge. With the Pro shape under 30" in width, I feel it would be faster and more responsive but in those smaller conditions they would definitely hold their own. With similar volume, if someone wants an extra bit of stability and forgiveness, the 8'7 Wedge would offer that. Cheers, Beau
Curious how you feel this board would do in smaller waves? Say knee height? Is that lack of initial push you mentioned going to be too much to really enjoy smaller waves with this board? My local break is usually fairly small, although it can get somewhat large at times.
Adam, i finally got this board, and yes its true. Too much rocker needs extra push to catch a wave. It feels stable but slow, very slow when you are on the wave compared to my other board, SB pocket rocket. That means its harder to catch smaller waves. That's my personal experience.
@@SUPboardermag preety much agree with that pinpoint review of yours; 1,70 and 85 kg here; 3 board; own an infinity 8,2 30 125 l and now for more stability, purchased the wedge 8,7, 143 l; more stable in choppy sea; hard to enter the waves; i need to paddle harder and place in the more critical side of the wave; very stable; very pleased with my purchase; keep up the good work !!!
We quite like some of the new graphics coming out, but we have definitely come across some interesting designs. What board is your favourite looking SUP?
@@SUPboardermag -I really liked Starboard with that simple sea blue and fairly "traditional" shapes (until they made the pro model with the cut-off nose), now they are wacky both in graphics and shapes -Naish was really sexy with the yellow, black and tribal graphics, up to 2016-17, now they look like their boards came out of a kids colouring book (I hope not to sound too harsh) -RRD's previous collection was simple and stylish, now it looks a bit dull and with many unjustified stuff in the graphics -JP was really good 2 years ago with those gray rails! But now... same thing I said for Naish... wacky colours (I saw a glimpse of the new 2021 collection and my stance is the same) -I like the Fanatic Prowave graphic, I just hope it wasn't purple, the other boards have "nice" graphics, but the colour choice is just weird, why not something more traditional and warm? On the good side: -Riviera was very good with that sanded paint on carbon finish, but sadly they are now gone, Infinity SUP has the same look, but definetly off most people's budget. -Sunova has to be the best look so far, but wood is just unbeatable! lets face it! I have the impression that everyone is going for flashy, unusal and crazy looks, and they might attract people's eyes in the water, but I am sure that not everyone will like them. After all, we are not all pro-surfers looking just for performance, we also probably want something that looks good too and does not get boring over time, personally I don't care if it's a full carbon-sandwhich worldcup winning board, if it looks riddiculous I don't really want it. A more conservitive simple and standard graphic never hurts, it will get general consensus and it's less work for the company in my opinion... Also, less paint, better for the enviroment...
Some great points in here, thanks for sharing. Clean simple lines and designs will always stand the test of time whereas the ‘out there’ graphics may not. And yes, a lot of people like the wood grain look very much!
I'd say the Pocket Rocket is a good choice for lighter riders. The rocker is quite a lot, but the 9'2 version is better. Go for a Fanatic All Wave or SMIK Hipster Twin is you want flatter rocker and performace.
@@SUPboardermag Thanks! I'm pretty new to SUP surfing, and my friends tell me to go with the Whopper 9'4 - i'm 74 kg and 178cm... just starting out, but I feel like i'll take to it quickly!

Look great!!! Are you going to do a fanatic allwave 8.8 review? I’m thinking to buy one of this two sup boards. Which you prefer? Thank you
Yes! We are receiving the 8'8 AllWave very soon and will be doing a full review of that board as well. Stay tuned.

Great review! I might need to get the big guy version of this though, 10'2"
Hi Eric did you end up buying the 10’2 of this board?? If you did how are you getting on with it :)
@@4happydaze No, actually I went with a NSP Allrounder 10'6". Love it!

What is going on? Why are all SUP companies going so wacky with board graphics? Since 2016-17 everyone is gone nuts

How is this going to compare with the Pocket Rocket 8'3"? I think I want that one, but everyone is sold out, so I'm considering a Wedge. ;)
