@STSIMY I realize that for many people, cars are their religion, but ultimately it is just a transaction. A 1969 Dodge Charger 426 would have cost about $3900. Today, it is worth about $125k. Inflation would kick that value up to $34k, but of course, in terms of depreciation, the car is essentially worthless. So basically a car is only worth what people will pay for it. Where I think you raise a red light though is when you say sellers will apply after market items to make it look like a car that people generally value more. Basically, they are committing fraud.

I don’t really think Inflation has anything to do with depreciating, at the end of the day. A car's value is on one hand a function of cost/depreciation but simultaneously there is an emotional factor for many, not me but to each his own, which will play a large role. In this post the suggestion is that the one car is not worth the equivalent of another but that is entirely emotional and not supported by hard reality. However that said I do believe that the original poster was onto something when he pointed out that some sellers will try to make after market modifications to make it look like the car they are selling is in fact one that is in higher demand and thus costs more.
