As an 8 year old kid, the Jumbo Prince broke my heart that day. My Westies got hammered by the team (Sturt) running 2nd. Still, 27 years on I can't help but admire the bloke.
I have checked my old Budgets and the date of this game was May 21, if anyone was trying to remember. Sadly, this was one of the few Sturt games I missed that year, because it was school holidays and I was in Melbourne!!
wish he went to Victoria in the mid 70's....he would of been sensational....left it too late in 81 but still played well in his only season with Hawthorn.
I feel sorry for the Bloods #37 who was Davies' opponent - Davies kicked all 15 goals while playing against him. Bloods coach Neil Kerley thought it would be a good lesson for the player (who was he?) rather than moving someone else on to Davies.
The bloods had a 10 goal second quarter from memory. Otherwise it was fairly even that day. I’m a Sturt supporter but boy, westies was nearly unbeatable that year.

one of my fondest memories of that era. sanfl was excellent standard.
motley was a robot. incredible overhead mark, perfect balance, two sides with hand or foot, massive or pinpoint accurate kick.
Peter Motley fantastic player...

great vid, thanks for posting
Is that bruce Macovani commentating? what about the shorts on Neil Craig?
Bruce McAvaney was one of the commentators. He became ADS7's #1 commentator when Sandy Roberts moved to Melbourne.
17-14 for a losing team....well a team that got beat by 12 goals is still a great effort!
different times..no one wanted to defend back then..it was all about who could kick goals. not many players were full time either..most had day jobs.
