“Kindness and generosity” as the most important human qualities coming from a Harvard Professor of Finance. Boy! That gives me hope. I feel and so appreciate the deep wisdom and spirituality of Mr. Desai’s Indian heritage shining through. Thank you gentlemen ~
It always amazes me and fills my heart with pride when I see Indian people or people of Indian origin do well abroad and really make a name for themselves. Such a big moment for our Country when we look at such distinguished and accomplished people embossing our name on the world stage.
@@foroptHopefully this isn't meant in a negative way. When people always assume your country is bad, it's OK to be proud to see people from your country educating and improving it.
20 years in financial services tells me the Harvard professor knows what he's talking about. :-). It's easy to get started. Keep a part of everything you earn and invest it so it grows (Mihir mentioned index funds) and/or pays you money (Mihir mentioned treasuries). Make sure you are contributing to any company plan, at least enough to get the match. Learn as you go. Three books to check out in addition to The Wisdom of Finance Rich Dad, Poor Dad -mentioned in the show The Richest Man in Babylon The Millionaire Next Door Way to expand the guest list Lewis.
how would one exactly invest in an index fund or purchase a bond? I know what they are, but don't know how to execute a transaction! appreciate your recommendations!
You will need an account to do the transaction in. Research more about index funds so that you know which fund(s) you want to invest in, Then you could open an online brokerage account or an account with a mutual fund family. This can normally be done in a few minutes online. You deposit funds to the account and then you can make a trade to purchase the investments you choose. Depending on the account and investments you can automate the deposit of additional funds and the purchase of additional shares. When you make regular purchases of an investment, you take advantage of something called dollar cost averaging. I'm sure you tiube can teach you all about that. Best of luck,
Rich dad had some good insights for sure, but it's important to note that his advice if followed would have bankrupted anyone leveraged into risky real estate during the 2008 crash.
Mr. Howes. I love how in your videos you are a great listener. One of the greatest gifts you give us is how to listen. I’m sure you have this compendium of great useful knowledge that very few people have, yet you listen and listen and listen; it’s admirable that You’re not showing off your great stores of knowledge. I learn as much from your guest as I do from watching you listen.
All my best professors were best story tells. They make sure they breakdown complex concepts and theories into the simplest form that is relatable to the majority of the audience. Mihir's coherent and unassuming share is quite amazing.
Great takeaways from this inspiring conversation; (1) While we are not equally talented/gifted, it is our duty (not an option) to make the most of what you have given. (2) Don't stigmatise failure, accept that it happens and start on a clean slate. (3) The power of Generosity and kindness are generally underestimated in life. (4) Your biggest leverage is your reputation.
I have been watching most of all your podcasts including many of them on health, nutrition and Dave Asprey. Great questions and conversations. Keep doing such quality discussions .
I always love the School of Greatness and this has to be one of the best guests. Super encouraging and soulful...and with a financial topic?! What a great guy.
This was one of the best guests you've had in your podcast (personally)...Loved all the information. Keep up bringing spectacular individuals to share their wisdom with the rest of us!!!!
Thank you for sharing the parable of talents in the bible and its in Matthew 25:14-30. This was all I needed to hear today. Thank you very much! I will be buying the book myself as I'm interested in Finance. Finance fascinated me, I just started learning Corporate Finance.
Lewis always shows with great people........... I am listening to your show with Bob Proctor every single day now for 9months.the School of Greatness is the best
I follow closely everything that is happening at Harvard Business School and really appreciate his interview , very powerful. Thanks Lewis ! Everything he said is right , I have young children and absolutely teach them this mindset if finance. It’s interesting because I also had a grandfather from Italy that kept a handwritten ledger as did his wife and my great aunt. My grandfather also taught me from an early age to look back in history and glean from history principles of finance and life. I also really appreciate how he blends a variety of stories, history and the Bible and convert to finance and leveraging resources ! Yes the story of the parables , exactly! I always say it to my clients and my kids how can we turn $1 in to $10 aka , talents , resources , gifts and so on. Wonderful interview !
Lewis, I can't thank you enough. Please do bring in more people from the educated elite (eg Harvard etc). They have a lot of knowledge to share . Many thanks again Lewis 👊
This video, like many of your others, has really resonated with me. It has simplified what previously seemed intimidating and difficult to understand: money management and its very basics.
Wow, this has got to be one of my newest favorites. Such lively and engaging conversation, I could listen to him all day! Pretty awesome how this was five years ago. Much love from 2023!
You're definitely the realest one in the territory of podcasting and self improvement. Great guests and great questions make for great dialogue. Helped me a ton
*Let me share a few things I learned from these 2 bro's and made notes of:* 1. *You don't know who is struggling with what, and what they're good at. Don't push too hard. People are incredible in different ways and you don't know, and you shouldn't pretend to know.* Filmpje People remember stories! Stories help people tell the world. *Facts tell, stories tell* 2. Reputation gives you the right to do things you have no right to do (good reputation). 3. What does it mean to be smart? ATTITUDE & work ethic. Hard workers who are hungry & smart. That is really powerful
Great insights shared on life, finance and spirituality by @Mihir Desai and thanks to @Lewis Howes for bringing him and other great minds to the School of Greatness. On the story of the talent he mentioned, the second was given 2 talents not 3 and that story do not only symbolises finance and gifts; it is also a foreshadow of what Heaven and Hell looks like, when you read it 'meditatively'. Great referencing and relational storytelling
I was just talking to a friend of mine about self-narratives, and how we balance those negative and positive aspects to come up with a working truth...and when it doesn't work--change it!
Those are some of the most beautiful, graceful hands I have ever seen. I am enchanted. And inspired. Thanks for another great talk, Lewis! Keep 'em coming! "All you need is love." ;)
Shed some light on some really great topics. When I was younger, I heard the story of the talents. I literally have heard it MANY times in church and never heard it spoken as money. I enjoyed it.
Im sure so many people skipped over this and it's a shame, stay woke. This interview was amazing. Thanks Lewis! I'll be supporting this man by following him and buying his book.
Wow Amazing personality. Positive attitude ,empathy ,hardwork ,humility and skill this not just about finance, but qualities required to be successful person in life.. Enjoyed watching the video.
Financial Literacy is one important subject that is missing in children curriculum in several countries (including USA and other advanced countries). It is a big vacuum and people like Mihir should fill that void by providing children friendly books for middle and high school students.
I really like Mihir’s story, approach, perspective and background. It’s much different than the usual western people nowadays. Culture is a huge thing to me and Mihir spoke to me in a special way, very transparent. That is a rare quality. I like the way he formatted his book, too. Super intriguing.
Great video! I appreciate the valuable insights and information shared in this presentation. Learning is a never-ending process, and your content is helping us stay ahead of the curve.
Wow, I didn't know who Prof. Mihir Desai was until your show. He's definitely one of the best guests and teachers. So first, thank you so much for bring him in and introducing such a wonderful teacher to us, Lewis. Secondly, I have followed your showed for a long time and have been enjoying your work. It's my first time ever leaving comments on anyone's video but I think since you want to build up a brand as a principal in the School of "Greatness," you might appreciate some mindful feedback. Honestly, in this interview, Lewis didn't show up as the best and most respectful interviewer. Starting from the beginning while I was intrigued by Professor's intelligence and elegancy, I was shocked and disturbed by how you mispronounced your guest's name, your personal attack on his race and general assumption on Harvard students, etc.. Some of the questions and comments just felt out of alignment and underpreparation. We will just expect something kinder and wiser from you. I believe you probably didn't do it consciously but that's something to learn in this global world. Hope you take the feedback mindfully. Keep on the good work!!
I wish there were more people from finance and crypto currency world talking on your channel :) I would also love you to bring Swell founder to the show, she is truly inspiring!
This discussion was like one of those great movies you see once a while. You get so absorbed in it that you don't know how time flew by till its over. Then you reflect on what you heard after it was all over.

Great interview!!! I feel this one has put fire in My behind to go ahead and take a chance and exploit the possibilities and talents given to me. Thank you !!
Great interview, I really like how he described how people can use debt to their advantage very informative and I also like that he wasn't stuffy like others in the Educational finance world.
What's needed is a way to measure an individual's propensity to luck, not skill. Closing off options (as in getting married) is more likely to have bad things happen as good - far more likely as follow-on kids and mortgage and career destroy your freedom and time. Always increase your options (by not cutting them off) and go with the flow. Soon, whatever happens, will be amazing and perfect. What the Professor does not seem to realize is 1) the universe is conscious, interactive, and on your side, and 2) god is not short of money. "More options" is how you massively increase your luck, and so much so that mistakes can be laughed at. You smile all the time. Other power is far more intelligent, effective, and powerful than self-power. Note that this implies not following the crowd as you won't let them make you average. The Professor's advice will make you average, though maybe in the upper range of average. That guarantees the boring life that most people are programmed to live. Just look around you. Do you want to commute every day of your life?
I am happy to come across this video. I am working on my first book and I would like to have you as one of my reviewer. Thank you in anticipation @Lewis Howes

Why? He doesnt calls himself Master of the Universe nor is he a politican.

It's so obvious he is used to teaching, he explains complex information so easily! Love it
Lewis Howes you're the man Lewis. I recommended your channel to a client today and she loved it!
Its great to hear from a great professor views on empathy, humility, encouragement and how everyone can become great. Really appreciate it !!
I wish I was exposed to this 5 years ago… but maybe then I wouldn’t have been to absorb it… I’m happy I found it now. Thank you Lewis 🙏

Kind of sucks if you're pursuing a career in the arts. It isn't exactly a financially secure career path, but if it's your passion it's hard not to follow it. It's basically a choice of financial stability (and unhappiness) over passion and belief, hoping one day you'll "make it" and then you'll start making money.
It also depends on your lifestyle, if you’re okay with a minimalistic lifestyle then getting a degree is something you love & not making a whole lot of money is totally fine
