My goodness, in the excitement of the box, forgot to mention that we were able to reunite with our parents many years later. Thank you for your kind words. Our story is the story of many. Perhaps, under different circumstances: the English children during WWII, the Jewish children during the Holocaust, the recent separation of children at the US border, trafficking of children…..and so many others. I’m all about “for the children” 💗💗💗
I remember when the Cuban people came to the US. We lived in a small town in Kansas, and we received a Dr. and his family. I truly love your life stories. Only in America.
Ohhh, Bernie so know the story! A cousin of my dad also went to Kansas. He had just finished medical school and Kansas was where he found placement to do residency. He was single at the time. He made his life in Kansas and lived there till his passing. We all have a story….and, yes, only in America! Thanks for watching and for lending an ear! 🦓💕🦓💕🦓💕🦓💕🦓
i think we need a channel for Sonia's stories! i just love your stories, thank you for sharing yourself and your heart with us Sonia, i think you're just so precious... and what a wonderful box you and your friend made, everything goes well togerher, i think the zebra bracelet is my fave... well done! 💖💖💖
Hope you had a beautiful Memorial Day weekend, Sonia! Thank you for your sons for their service! Sorry to hear about your wrist! Prayers that it will heal quickly. I know you are strong, and you are still packing for OCC! The 107 rubber bands are very tough - even the Amazon ones. Thank you for sharing your personal story. While it was tough, you and your brother made it to the States. Loved that your mom made a zebra for your brother. No wonder the zebra is such a personal attachment. I will read up on Operation Peter Pan! I remember reading about it a long time ago. Now the shoebox. Love when the little girl opens this box full of wow items. Great decor inside and out. Beautiful doll with outfit. Amazing dress to match the doll! My favorite are the pretty gold shoes. Love the book and felt zebras. Beautiful shoebox, Sonia! Thanks for sharing! 🦓🦓🦓
Sonia, thank you for sharing your story. I am from PR so we knew how much the people of Cuba suffered and still suffering. Even though, there is so many sad stories about Cuba and his people, definitely God had a big purpose with you and your family. God has been using you to bless so many children probably many of them are in a similar situation you were when you had to leave your family in Cuba. You are blessing so many children with cloth, toys but with the most important gift of all, the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This remind me Mathew 25:31-46. I pray your hand is heal in the name of Jesus Christ thus you can continue doing boxes with no pain. Beautiful box. The girl will love this box and enjoy every item included because they are stunning. Even though, you don't know me I want to send you a big hug 🤗 ❤️.
Hi Sonia, Thank-you for sharing your story of how you came to live in the US. I can see this experience really is reflected in your shoeboxes ... Like your brother's experience with his Zebra, my sister had a prickly toy elephant 🐘 when she was a toddler. I never thought much of that prickly elephant 🐘 but I would fight any kid who tried to take it off her. So, one of the first boxes that I packed was an elephant themed shoebox for Miss 2-4. Last year, I sent a spontenously packed Zebra box for Mr. 2-4. He received a pale blue t-shirt with a zebra print, and a picture book about a Zebra learning the importance of just being himself. 🦓 So keep being you, sharing your stories and packing your ark sized shoeboxes. But, please take care. 🤗
I’m so sorry you hurt your wrist. I hate that you, as a child, had to endure such scary circumstances. Leaving your parents, not knowing if you’d ever see your mother or sick father again, AND being immediately made to grow up and take care of your brother even though you were only ten. My heart breaks for you both and your parents. Bless you for enduring all of this and ending up making a wonderful life and having such a positive attitude. I’m so glad you’re on here sharing your story and your boxes. Xoxo love ya!
What a beautiful box and oh how I loved hearing your story! What an amazing journey that brought you here and God has guided you to use your experiences to bless others. It is the strength and emotion from what you have endured I believe, that makes you the kind loving and giving woman that you are. Did you ever reunite with your parents? Ok on to the box! What a lovely box with so much special meaning behind it. I almost teared up! What a kind and talented donor you have. The dress with matching doll dress is just all one huge WOW! And I love the little zebras she made too. Absolutely incredible. This little lady will be so blessed to receive this gift from your heart. God bless you my friend. I’m so glad God brought us together. 💕
Ohhhh, dear friend! Life is truly a journey, isn’t it! Yes…..many years later, mom and dad were allowed to leave the island. The most memorable time in my life! There have been so many MEMORABLES!!! Such a sponge the mind of a child is! On to the box! I don’t think the video did justice to the doll’s dress and the little zebras. I have to admit that I played with the little zebras as I read the book one night. Turning the pages, I re-arranged the zebras on top of the pages and made believe Zee Zee was real. I had a blast! There’s really not much zebra stuff out in the market, I think! Need to start collecting them for future boxes! 🦓💕🦓💕🦓💕🦓💕🦓
As Jewish, yout story resonated with me... I know it's not the same historical event, but it reminded me stories from the Holocaust, where kids also were sepreted from their parents and didn't know where they are going... I really hope your wrist will be ok friend
Hello, dear friend! I understand, feel and sympathize with your words. Thanks for writing. OMG, I love giraffes too! You have giving me the inspiration to do a giraffe box and will be starting to collect “giraffe” items for a future box! Thanks! 🦓🦓🦓🦓🦓 🦒
Sonia, thank you for teaching me something new today. I never heard of Operation Peter Pan. I’ll be doing some more research to learn more. 😉 This shoebox is so special. I’ll never look at a zebra again and not think of your story. 🦓 I love how you decorated the lid. The outfit on the doll is adorable. 😍 The dress for the little girl is simply precious. I also really like the puzzle and bracelet. This shoebox is a definite hit for this little girl. Thanks for sharing. ☺️
I LOVE this box!!!nooo don’t be sorry please, even if you think you are getting off track, you really arn’t because operation Christmas child is about giving to children in need and how you can relate to that in your personal life is nothing to be sorry about talking about, you are an inspiration. Lots of love from Australia xxx
Thanks, Karina! You are the sweetest. I know of Cubans who went to Australia as well. A little bit of us all over the world, I guess! Thanks for watching and listening! Hello to you from California! 💕💕💕
Such a special box. I love all the things that fit in with the story book. She will love dressing up the same as her dolly. 🦓 It was interesting to hear your story. I had never heard of Operation Peter Pan. God bless you. My grandmother was a refugee from the Polish corridor when the Russians invaded.
Thanks, Charlotte! I think little Ms 2-4 will love her doll and toy! Thanks for watching and sharing about your grandmother. We all have a story to tell! 🦓💕🦓💕🦓💕🦓💕🦓
Oh, Sonia, I love everything in this box! The little girl’s dress, matching doll dress, Zee Zee Zebra book and the little felt zebras are just the cutest ever. And all the extras…the coloring book, wooden animals that interlock into a puzzle and zebra mask, lovely quality and so carefully and lovingly chosen. TFS this adorable box 🦓 💖
Sonia, I’m hysterical watching this video. The story you told is all too familiar. How terrible for little children to have to travel alone not knowing if they will ever see their parents again. My husbands family had the same experience. It’s so sad to see that nothing has changed in Cuba. There is so much opportunity for improvement and I pray one day the people of Cuba will know freedom. When they opened the cruise ports to Americans, I absolutely refused to travel there bc all the activities were government run and I will not contribute to communism. I’m sure you know how much the families left behind even to this day continue to suffer. Well now, on to the box! I absolutely love everything and the bloomers 🤣🤣🤣. The personal story just makes this box extra extra special. The dress matching the doll is amazing! On of the VERY few regrets I have in life is not learning to sew! Beautiful tribute and history behind this box. TFS!
Hi, Jeannie! So, you know this story and many others! I’ve never been back and refuse to go. My parents sacrifice cannot go in vain. We all have a story to tell, dear friend! Thanks for being you! 🦓💕🦓💕🦓💕🦓
@@soniasshoeboxesocc-ninodel3987 I agree with you Sonia! One day we will be able to visit a free country! God bless you! Oh and when I said hysterical in my previous post, I meant crying not laughing..
Sonia, another of my very favorite boxes. A mommy and me dress, simply adorable. The handmade little zebras, puzzle, bracelet and hair clips are just a few of the beautiful items in this box. Thank you for sharing your story. I am such a helicopter Mom. I cringed just thinking about you and your little brother traveling by yourself. It must have been very scary. I know a lot of Cubans and although most came over when they were little, they still vividly remember making the long lines to get their food ration, the mandatory work summer camps (away from their parents), and other hardships.
Thanks, Maritza! This was a fun and delightful box to put together. The stories from your Cuban friends are all too familiar. The mandatory work summer camp “Pioneros” (Pioneers) was made up of children my age and up as an indoctrination tool. Very scary time! Thanks for lending your ear! Love you! 💕💕💕
God Bless your boys. I have a hard time with the Walmart rubber bands as well and it does hurt my arthritis hubby helps with that. I hope your wrist feels better soon. Thank you for sharing your story I'm so happy you were reunited with your parents. Dolly's dress is so cute. I love the darling outfits and very cute little shoes. So many wonderful blessing for a little girl. Thank you Sonia for sharing, I love this box
Hi Bonnie! I tell you these rubber bands can be dangerous….😄🤣😄🤣😄🤣! Try explaining to a doctor you were pulling and stretching a rubber band….hilarious….😄🤣😄🤣😄🤣! 💕💕💕💕💕
Your story was so touching friend. Thank you for sharing 💕 My nephew has been in Marines for about 2yrs 💙 ❤️ 💛 🙏 Bless your heart! I hope your wrist feels better very soon! Thanks for your ear, dear friend! We all have a story! Blessings to your nephew and his love for country. May he always be safe. And, please be super careful with Wally’s rubber bands. Imagine telling doctor injury was due “while stretching a rubber band over a shoebox”……🤣🤣🤣. OMG, yes, the amazing dress and doll are from a generous donor. Wonderful blessings for this little one! Sonia, I just looked up some pictures that were taken during the Operation Peter Pan migration. It must have been so hard for you, your brother, and your parents to face the unknown associated with that time of Cuban history. I can't even imagine how difficult it was for your parents to make the decision that to send you to a foreign country, but the possibility of some of Castro's plans was pretty frightening. I remember the box you did for your mother, and I think you must have been reunited at some point. This box is one of my favorites. That doll is so precious in her zebra themed outfit, and the little girl's dress is so cute. The puzzles, coloring book, puppets, and shoes are all wow items. What an excited little miss this will be when she opens this box. Oh, hope your arm heals soon. 🦓
Thank you for taking the time and goggling! It was a hard and scary time! After many years, our parents were allowed to leave the island. We were lucky. Other children never re-united.
