I also think she's more RnB than Afrobeats. That's why she keeps getting these awards because the American can easily relate with her style than you would a typical Afrobeat song. "Water" will sound like a Muni Long, Ciara ...song
@@mkmc94 yes absolutely, but did water have afrobeats, read my comment above all this. i would have no problem at all if it was truth or dare or safer that was nominated at least they have afrobeats influences in them.
Okay guys let's actually access this better. this category was labeled as AFROBEATS not African not Amapiano. Afrobeats is a west African music genre, i know we can all agree on that. Afrobeats doesn't represent all African music if you're not ignorant or illiterate. there is also Alte, fuji and the beautiful Amapiano. Tyla's song water is amapiano, r&b and pop. no afrobeats. If truth or dare or safer was nominated then there wouldn't have been an issue whatsoever and there wouldn't be a reaosn for Nigerians to get mad. but now water was nominated again which is not only appropriating Afrobeats but also suggesting that water is the only award winning song tyla has which is a stretch. truth or dare was also a hit and it is Afrobeats whereas water is not. so why did they nominate water instead, honeslty it's just making tyla look more like a one-hit wonder (not that she is one). i feel like because water is also r&b and pop, americans are trying to use her to whitewash afrobeats. They can do that for amapiano just not our precious afrobeats. Imagine nominating an Afrobeat song in an amapiano category for instance. isn't that disrespect. even more if she wins. I am definitley rooting for her in the r&b and best new artist category, hundred percent deserved if she wins. Just not in OUR category okay? Just like how chidinma can't be Miss SA, tyla's water can't get best Afrobeats song.
My brother Americans are scared of the way Nigerians are moving globally so they know what they are doing using tyla to counter tthe awards na water only water tommorow still water lol it’s well , the good part is Nigerians know how to move they will try but they can’t stop Nigerians moves which they are sacred off
Even if the song is tick in a box of Afrobeat but honestly, the west doesn’t like when Nigerians are doing well and dominating. There’s an agenda against the Nigerians.
Doesn't she have any other song apart from water, she won her first Grammy award with water instead of Grammy organizer's to play her music they were busy playing fela's water, she's good but I just think the organizers are just favouring her
And artist from Korea is not K-pop bro but still they get K-pop category’s even though their song could be 100% in ENGLISH so I don’t understand your frustration when this has been happening for while when it comes to Korean music artist
He just scared of Tyla winning it. Nigerian are frustrated seeing artists from other part of africa winning in global stage. Black American do the same.

Tyla’s songs have zero South African native language in them.Singing 100 percent of your songs in English and claiming to be African and then coming to win Afrobeats awards.I smell fraud from the western world. Please Grammys and MTV if you really want to know what a typical African song looks like and the type of African songs that should be winning these awards,go and listen to Brenda Fassie’s song…..Vulindlela and listen to Burna boy’s song…..Soke.Y’all make mockery of these awards when you keep nominating Tyla’s Water under Afrobeats.Tyla’s song is 1 percent African song and 99 percent western song and thus has no business being in the Afrobeats category.
I disagree with you. Tyla's water is afrobeats. You can't say it's not afrobeats. The foundation of the beat is afrobeats with elements of amapiano, pop and rnb. If you listen to the beat it is not different from Ayra Starr's type of beat. The only difference is that she doesn't have the Afrobeat vibe and the language she uses.
Lol. U are wrong. Its not an afrobeat song. She's not an afro beats artist. Just cos u are African doesn't mean every song u sing is afrobeats. The west love boxing Africans in one box which is unfair to the Tyla herself. African music is versatile. Afrobeats is nit the only genre but they put everyone in afrobeats just because they don't want to give another category to Africans. Think outside the box.
