  • I first stumbled on Terowie in 2007. It was like a clip out of an old Western movie. So in 2019, I just had to revisit and see if anything had changed.
The town sits in off the Barrier Highway, and the Peterborough - Terowie Road, and it was by chance that we pulled in to have a look back in 2007. It is so easy to bypass, but it is a must visit IMHO.
The town, once a bustling railway town, is now largely deserted, with only about 100 people now living there, but the buildings remain to remind us of what went before.

There is an attraction for some unknown reason. I've been there a few times now, and keep getting drawn back like a bee to a honeypot. Cheers, Laurie

A lot of older folks live in towns like this they just can't afford to live in the larger towns and cities. Lived in Peterborough for a few years in my mid twenties got my first house there.

I've had a couple of old Peterborough residents contact me over the past few months. Prompted me to dig out and upload some old Peterborough footage. There are also a lot of us older folks living in these places to just get away from the hustle and bustle that is city and big town life.

@@lauriekibblewhite Nice video Laurie it hasn't changed much from when I was there in the early nineties. You're right I didn't realise until you pointed it out that a lot of older folk as well just don't want the hustle and bustle. I've lived in several country towns over the years and that's probably why. There's just something about them. I live in Warooka at the moment love it.

Most of people know Adelaide, mount gambier and Berri in south Australia🇦🇺 but SA is really bigger, historical and beautiful, and many great amazing people live in small town as well.

Yes Naman, you are so right. These towns were the centre piece of their communities once upon a time, but circumstances (in this case the closing down of the rail depot) meant that people neede to move for employment opportunities. Sad.

Such a shame to see towns like this decline and fade away like they have. I know its all part of progress but to see iconic places like this slowly die when they're so full of history brings a tear to my eye. and something many people dont know about Terowie, its the place where General McArthur declared 'we shall return' during WW2. last time I was up this way was in 1985 on my way to Broken Hill, and it was still alive then. sad to see how much its changed since.

Thanks. I first came across this town in 2004, then 2007 and again in 2019. It's a town that fascinated me. If I was into making movies, it would definitely be on the wish list as a movie location. Cheers, Laurie.

I had the same tour but on foot back in the 90’s after our car broke down 10km north of Terowie and a kind Truckie towed us into town. We had plenty of time to look around while we waited for my brother in law in Adelaide to get a car trailer and come pick us up. It looked just the same back then as this video shows now.

These towns are a part of our history, and should be preserved in my opinion.
