That was a fun and nice little trip. Thanks for taking us along Dan! And here's an interesting little bit, my son's name is Alex toooo! But, he was born in 1991, married and has given me 3 grandchildren. Time flies, before you know it, you will have grand kids too!!
Looked like a nice day out hiking and exploring a mine. Well you never know if you don't check for gold, now you know. One time I was exploring a cave and when I crawled into it I crawled right in on a sleeping grey fox and I sure am glad that I didn't wake him up, that could have been ugly, I crawled back out very quickly and quietly.
I Just came here to leave this comment because i couldn't find all the Easter eggs so i will just leave this message here for my bonus! lol Thank you Dan Hurd!!!
Quade Draghi it was a very difficult competition.. Iam 12 hours at it today and I can't finish it either. Iv went thru em all, some of them are worded weirdly so it's easy to get a couple of the answers mixed up for two pics!!. My head won't let me give up so I'm. Still at it here 😂
Greatings from Venezuela!!! Dan, no luck finding gold today...may be the next time...!!! but certainly you and your family spend a nice time!!! interesting to see this mine...I look after for it in google earth to know abiut it!!! thank you...
The old workings are attributed to the Camp Hewitt Mining and Development Company which was active in this area during 1896-99. The "shaft" exposes several small, near-vertical shears striking 40 degrees, and irregular quartz veining in and adjacent to the slips. The veining contains some pyrite (iron) and a trace of galena (lead) and sphalerite (zinc), as well as limonite (iron), malachite (copper) and azurite (copper) staining. The "tunnel" exposes an irregular, thin quartz vein striking easterly and dipping at 70-75 degrees to the north. No primary minerals are in this vein but limonite and malachite stains were seen. This was never really a producer but more an exploration effort following weak mineralization in the veins. This type of mineralization is roughly associated and periferal to the events that created the Brenda mine 20 kms to the west. The Brenda mine began production in early 1970 with 160,556,700 tonnes grading 0.183 per cent copper and 0.049 per cent molybdenum. The mine officially closed June 8, 1990. Now, THAT was a mine.
Did you go in the one your son was looking in and down the vertical to the other shaft ? We put logs over the vertical inside thats was at the time filled with water we pumped for ever it seemed ah good time
Hand pick the big ones early, or they'll obstruct the pan. Slightly angle the pan and then tap it. Gold moves differently. Get yourself a handheld rock crusher for those quartz pieces, I would. Or potentially make one out of a chunky piece of steel pipe and a heavy ball bearing.
😂 that was our claim when i was young kid digging that opening your son went in a lower and i remember going down a rope tyed off a tree just like that going down and that road we drove some of our gear out and rember that step exit we had a heck of a time once getting truck out man madva kid a good driver omgoodness there times evenn pumped water out dad had to get a bigger pump 😅 it was so wiered my dad sent me in when we reopend that shaft true story lots hand work cant believe theres s trail now ?? I don't have a whole lot of money and I've been looking at the Arlington mine in north central Washington. I reallly want to file a claim for prospecting and clean up the tailings piles. Do you think it's worth the time and money. It's a load mine and they left alot behind
that's good that you make this video I have the same thing the wash I have sampled in has the quartz with iron oxide and pyrite in it on the ground (I googled gold bearing quartz pictures look good) could it be the gold is all hard rock mining there should be some placer gold yes ?
@@Danhurd na found the shiney small specs no black edges on it real shiney just a few specs you should see the quartz with iron oxide and pyrite in it laying on the ground I don't think it was $5 but more sampling TO FIND THE SHINEY SO C"MON LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!! even told our friend jeff I ask you and him lots of questions
You need to crush your material finer and more consistent. You are not getting enough surface area on your crushed rocks, therefore the fine gold that may have been in there was lost within the bigger chunks.
Dan Hurd Love your show by the way The only caveat with crushing finer is that you are potentially sacrificing chunkiness for higher weight. But if you ask me I would take higher weight over chunkiness any day :)
Just surface stuff for this. I find old mine dumps usually have best stuff on the surface where the sulfides can weather away. The creak was a LONG ways away.
I gave that away a long time ago. I have another one still active tho, on my "How to work Shale bedrock" video. Waiting on 1000 likes before I give it away. we are getting close. but need about 100 still.
There's an ad on this video for something called a "Flow Pan" it always amazes me when the ad is actually relevant to the content of the video.. all too rare an occurrence on here.. Have you seen them Dan? Sometimes there's a reason it's an old abandoned mine and not an active mine... no gold/silver means no reason to mine.
There was over 300 mines in this area at one time. They have all been blocked or filled because a little girl fell into one, never to be found. That rope really bothers me.
I want to work with you with a little monthly salary because here in our wears wars and we are allowed to work in this area and I have experience and to your fullest
Not a very intelligent commentary. Dan missed the opportunity to tell us about the history, the geology and even the people involved in the Gladstone Mine.

I have to say that you inspire me with any video you share with us. Thank you so much sir. I appreciate this.

Great video Dan!!! Nice day out with the family!
it is always nice getting out with the family.
Can't win them all. Great video and love seeing the family out prospecting together

So very true! And any day spent prospecting is a good day... Even if there isn't any gold at the end :)
Very nice scenery. Thanks for sharing Dan.

I was wondering the same, no snow..nice. Wisconsin has snow that's why I'm Arizona. But BC looks nice, big country love the rivers..

Looks like a lot of fun man!
Keep em coming
Will do!
I love old mines and watching others explore them also!!
That was one of the first mines I explored, many many years ago.
There is a Gladstone mine here in Colorado also. I actually worked some dirt there last summer and found nothing either. It was fun looking though!
I love trying these old mines, even if they don't show anything.

It sure was a nice day with the family.
The rope may have been to haul buckets up from the bottom of the shaft.
Cools mines though, would love to explore that

Better luck next time Dan. Enjoyed as always.

Thanks
That’s why they call it prospecting. Carry on brother
Always!
It would be nice to have you discuss different pan sizes and different inside grooves, ridges etc
That's an idea - thanks!
Admire your balancing skill, I would have ended up in the creek.
The water is damn cold, would not want a wet foot or wet butt these days.

There is a gold mine named the Gladstone in Shasta County, CAL. Patented and rich ore, fine history, also now for sale.

What happened to the old tune?I like that one more.it makes me Buzz thinking mmm Time for gold!

Yes it was!
It'd be pretty good to see the interior shots of a vertical shaft by lowering a GoPro type camera down on a rope, like they do with old wells..
A friend of mine just went inside and took some video. He should have some nice shots of the shaft.
Can you add your old intro music. It suited your channel alot better.
Nice adventure good try in seeing if any gold if u didn’t it would have bugged u 👍🏻

You might need to dig down a bit to find if any gold came out of the weathering.
When hiking or in sketchy terrain it's always wise to have your shoes tied 🐲😈
Was that vertical shaft used for anything or were they just following a seam ?
