I can’t believe that I just watched people racing jetpacks. That first place trophy was an awesome idea!

@@dopenerdaroc3211 It looks like science fiction and video games, but is real. How cool is that?
I can't believe you watched it either.
Ok
Yeah it was awesome, and it's perfect for holding it up.
At 70 yo that was the first jet pack race I've seen. It's about time.
It used to be science fiction~! Welcome to the future!
@@Worldofourown2024 That is what I say to myself at just over sixty times around the Sun. Yesterday, I watched Monocycle races and then this. I really like the SpaceX rocket landing upright like Buck Rogers, I have invention notes from the mid '90s of an analogy balance system that I've never tried to see if it would work. I used to live in the metroplexes and moved to the North-woods for just over a decade and had to go back and EVERYBODY was watching their smartphones. I noticed that even O Hare doesn't put up navigation signs nor clocks anymore.
@@Worldofourown2024That was pretty much what I thought when we landed a giant robot on Mars with a ROCKET CRANE :D
@@bardmadsen6956 Yea the monocycles or E unicycle one wheels are cool. I see those out in Salt Lake often and want to do. I know it's not for older guys for you can really crash out or get run over. Yea, nobody in the city talks to one another anymore for its just all screens to simulate having friends and fun and many simulate work online getting paid. I need that too for 2020's is really hard with all the inflation, antisocial vibes, divisions, and civil war brewing. Many of us wish so badly to fly and get in the outdoors, but can't even drive places anymore. This isn't America anymore. I fondly remember landing in O'hare the very first flight I took at 19. It was an adventurous experience! I fondly remember popping out the clouds in descent with my ears hurting seeing Chicago just magically appears and that Sears tower and economic skyline inspiring me that America was truly great and it was a high honor to be an American serving in the US Army. I guess movies and music and reading had us thinking things were much better than they reall are. Do you just stay alone socially distanced and watch UA-cam as much as humanly and timely possible?
@@SilentSooYun What? I must have missed that one about landing a giant robot on mars with a rocket crane. OK, it did happen, sorta. Spirit and Opportunity were an inspiring look. Space X is going to really go there in person. I bet living in the 2030's and 40's could be cool if we can all get past 2020's. One thing that most uncool is if the sky fills up with mushroom clouds, toxic smoke, and killer viruses while the dollar system collapses out destroying America first. If we can not have world war 3 like Elon Musk says too, then we can carry on with security and safety and great joy into old age.
The facts that we are living in an age where pple fly around in jet packs is just amazing.
Can't wait to see this happen on the moon! Here's hoping 2042 🤞
when you realize we've had this tech for over half a century and its only public now because the military has produced stuff thats magnitudes more complex and futuristic than jetpacks... its not as cool as you think. who cares about activities that only rich people get to participate in.
Megaman irl lmao
@rogerkorir 💯🔥🤙
Yeah, for 1 minute at a time...
Can we all just take moment to absorb the fact that this is actually real,....... during our lifetimes!
jetpacks have been functional since the 1960s, but not commercially viable.
Gravity Industries hasn't announced any profits yet, or any big clients.
The money seems to be coming from very rich sponsors that just wanna play with jetpacks.
What application is there for $400,000 jetpacks? mountain paramedics? Few societies can afford to kit, train, and maintain a jetpack fleet for those niche cases where a $600,000 'copter won't work, but a jetpack medic with a first aid kit will make the difference in saving an injured mountain goer.
Exactly. The seemingly Jetson future is here. Before long they will be doing forward and backward flips!
Gonna get crazier n crazier as the years go by, this is awsome
Imagine a night race with lighting's. It'll look like the grid type of sport
Oh yeah
yup
I hope so. You’ve probably never heard of the rocket racing league I imagine… also a cool thing that has troubles to become a real racesport
Well done guys i know how long you've been pushing to make this happen.

@@jessizthebess4590 What's wrong with saying rad? I use it all the time. 😁
"Worlds first Wearable trophy!", just don't look at those gold, silver, bronze ones people have been getting for thousands of years....
@@Thorgon-Cross I get it but that's just a medal. They actually gave the winner a trophy modeled after part of the jetsuit that he had to put his arm in and hold. That's a lot different than a thin medal. And since when have people been getting gold, silver, and bronze medals to put on for thousands of years? The modern Olympics is only 130 years old and I don't think they put medals on winners in the ancient Olympics. From what I just looked up, wearable medals for events have only been used for a few hundred years.
10 years from now we’ll be laughing at this race and how antiquated it was.
Gotta imagine Stan Lee is smiling from his grave as humanity races around real life Ironman suits. Simply amazing.
I've been following these jet suits for a while now and it's absolutely incredible how you achieved this in just 7 years! Richard truly is an amazing person to go from an idea 7 years ago to this, it just completely blows my mind.
Whaaaaaaat?!?!?! I have been waiting for this for years! Your company's commitment to the advancement of this technology has been an amazing journey to watch.

I feel like people aren't talking enough about the fact that they're literally flying! Airplanes and cars were really awesome and practical inventions, but this is the kind of thing people truly dreamt about when it came to whether people would ever properly be able to fly all on their own. With these suits, people are literally flying! Not only that but they're mostly controlling it with just their own body movements; it's literally one of the coolest things someone could possibly do. The next step up from this is just straight up flying like you're in creative mode. Obviously I wouldn't say this is one of the best things of all time, but I would certainly say it's one of the coolest things of all time. It's just so awesome!
They’re very limited and totally impractical. It’s just a stunt show.
Definitely not eco friendly with 5L/min burn if that horrible fossil fuel.
Just have to say, the organization and production on this was amazing. I’ve seen several “new” sports, where it felt like they didn’t quite have it all down yet - but this was perfect. The heat structure, the live commentary, the filming, the pilot breakdowns, and the clearly distinct suit colors, matched with the coloring used throughout all the visuals and graphics - just great, and made it really followable, as a spectator sport.
Can’t wait to see more, in the future!!

Really exciting! But I think it might be nice to have the courses be more "3 dimensional". So make it also that the pilots have to fly over/under obstacles and also have generally more and sharper turns. To really show off the manouverability of these suits.
I think they opted for safety so as to not have the sport marked by injury from the get. I predict the progression of these races will be similar to the maneuverability of the suits--gradual and rounded. I do look forward to seeing that progress, though.
1 step at a time.
Yeah, I get the need to take it slow and steady, but this isn't exciting. They need more complex obstacles that could only be done with a jetpack. We've seen them chase and land on boats, and go over rough terrain.
Make it more exciting, or this will be the last race series.
@@benp7328I think they could make big floating rings to fly through instead of just pylons. You could vary the heights a little without needing to fly dangerously high off the water and even have horizontal rings to force you to slow down and pass through vertically.
I agree, 1 step at a time, but what great ideas for the future of this sport! I'm super excited to see what becomes of this.
Jetpack racing. Finally! Amazing to see those photo finishes. The race between Issa and the founder, a 0.12 second difference. I didn't even think that was possible from watching the first few heats! As a small child in the late 1980's, there wasn't even a video game that could match what's happening IRL here. First thing close would be Pilotwings for SNES in 1991. I love sledding, ziplines, mountain biking & fast ebikes, and flying in planes. I'd love to fly one of these jet suits one day!
Thank you for mentioning Pilotwings! I was trying to think of the name of the game I played on SNES when I was little that I got to use a jetpack in. Memories. I haven't played that game in probably 20 years.
played Pilotwings as a little kid too. now i´m a skydiver :P
SNES????? Jet Set Willy - ZX Spectrum. Actual jet pack game 1984. Jet pack at superbowls and olympics in 1980s. Where did they go?
it should take like more than 300000 $
"Hey random guy off the Dubai street called Ahmed, we're doing this jetsuit race thing in 14 days time and we want a local to take part. Ever done anything like it before? Wing suit flying? Close enough. Oh, you'll be racing against guys who've been jetsuit flying for years. And it'll all be filmed. And no practices. But you'll be fine, we'll give you armbands in case you crash"
33:35 that is the coolest race start I have ever seen
I am soo glad ISSA got that last minute hardware swop, considering how dependent this type of flight is on the amount of weight it is carrying and how much fuel is in the tank, he just powered away from everybody! 😅😂
Having flown one of these over in the UK the skill to do this at speed is really something. I only managed a hover and was proud of myself for that :-) I need to save more for extra lessons so I can be part of this one day
:-)
How much was it?
@@rocketeer6713 about 10,000 USD for full day of training. If you just want shorter experience then about 3500. They need to fund their research to make better suits etc right now so this is very much early adopter prices. Racing always pushes improvements to technology
yeh but, yeh but this stuff is a blind alley. novelty - nothing more
@@raymondo162 I highly disagree. There's a reason why certain militaries are investing in it and have jet suit units. France has a squadron of these, and France is not one to go for frivolous novelties. They are often far ahead because they have a keen eye to see potential when others are afraid to invest because new tech is always considered "novelty" at the start. iPhone was mocked on launch because smart phones were considered novelty. Try finding a mobile phone today that's _not_ a smart phone... (yes, they still exist, but that's not the point.)
The USA has recently started constructing its first high speed train line. France introduced the first commercial high speed train connection in 1981! So when they invest in this tech today for military applications, expect it to become commonplace in half a century.

You should setup 3D data-feeds on the flyers and cameras for use in realtime graphics and replays and analysis from any moment and viewpoint, with tracked/mapped video overlay information and a interactive 3D visualizer.
For example when the guy crashed we'd see what angles of the thrusters, power levels and forces are, and if their was enough lift. Then we can figure out what happend (not enough power? bad thrust angles? weak shaky grip? fuel or system problem? etc etc). And after the race you can easily rewind for analysis and discuss strategy (trajectory, cornering speed, acceleration etc).
Super fans dream
Are you not entertained!?😂😂😂 We just watched a jet pack race in Dubai covered with FPV drones.
Heads up display would be a nice touch too. The comment section is full of gold
Real-time Telemetry broadcasting is expensive. As the sport gets popular and gets bigger sponsors, all that will surely be available. An entertaining daredevil can bring more attention to the sport at the expense of safety; like in the early days of Formula 1. 😅

DELUDED FANTASIST
@@raymondo162 In the not-too-distant future, when the military has adopted jetpack tech for, say, oceangoing vessel VBSS, or CASEVAC, or any sort of infil/exfil... Think about these "delusional" races, and what part they played in the mfgs unofficial long-term testing & evaluation efforts... and what part it played in helping the gov't gain and build upon its trust in the companies and the technology... And what part this sort of racing played in exposing the tech to the general public, so that they, too, would gain and build upon their trust in the mfgs and the tech involved, further assuring a path to a future where this sort of tech is not only less expensive and more easily available, but more common and trusted by society as a whole... Which means an expansion of potential uses for the tech, beyond the "delusional" appeal of these races as mere entertainment. Besides, there's an almost unending list of creative and innovative scientists, technicians, fabricators, university professors, independent inventors and tinkerers from around the world and throughout history who faced what ultimately amounted to empty criticism, such as the charge of being *delusional*, or of being lost in one's *fantasies*. For these people and others like them, it is important to learn how to block out such meaningless, empty and frankly cowardly criticism. If you ain't got nothing worthwhile to say, then don't say nothin' in the first place.. And I know what a double negative is, thanks. If you insist that what you have to say is worth saying, then please do us all a favor and develop and elaborate your ideas sufficiently, such that a possible conversation could follow. I m so happy to find this video, its history in the making. One day my kids gone search for this first ever jet suit race. Dubai 2024.
its about damn time we have jetpack racing!
I hope we have a lot more manufacturers competing against each other.
It's amazing to me that they've developed a jetpack that can survive water landings and fly again, especially in salt water! I wish they'd presented more information on what it takes to keep them in the air, what they do after a water landing, etc.
i imagine a lot of that is proprietary.. it is a very competitive market, and especially so since its in its infancy, where the choice of giving away or *not* giving away just a little tiny bit of information, such as water resistance and how to deal with briefly being submerged can be the difference between getting a huge gov't contract and the company surviving and making lots of money, OR the company losing its competitive advantage to a closely-ranked rival who then uses that bit of info to push their version of the jetpack into the lead position in the market for such a product, costing the first company the opportunity to secure contracts and funding and possibly even leading to its own demise. but who knows...
this information is owned by gov, as it always is. and these jetpacs are allowed to be operated in public simply coz it is an old tech. if they would replace petrol with water or magnetic charge or invent a new type of fuel gov would shut them down immediately and this race would never happen, if it is happening means tech is old.
I’m ready for this🥷🏾🚀

@ ‘Flyers’ might be appropriate.
@@artysanmobile that would be overly generous. They’re trained monkeys putting on short little shows over water because the gear isn’t capable of safe flight or use for more than a few minutes.

That's awesome we are the first 1 million people that ever see this in the history of the universe
Super fun to watch! It'd be cool to see the split times for each gate during the race. A bigger crowd would really make for a great atmosphere in the video too. More data all-round would be good - like current / top speed. I also think you need a few more high-up / above-the-action medium-length camera shots, they were the easiest to follow. Would also be cool if you had Replays of the key moments (like overtakes and turns) at the end of the race, where the commentator talks through the replay.
Can't wait for more!
I think if they could do this in America or Europe the crowds would be there. If they have the right sponsors and a solid marketing team, this sport could end up being to the next generation what Nascar and Formula 1 has been for us. I like all of your ideas for on screen data and camera shots. To take this to the next level will cost some big bucks. Unique water courses with obstacles, striking visuals, screens, great locations etc. The backdrop of Dubai is great here, but it's lacking enough engaging visuals in the actual race. It's just something about a jet suit race being filmed with drones in Dubai that seems so futuristic. I feel like I should have been more engaged with this. It's missing the flair that should have made this video go viral.
@@ARealPersonNotABot SO basically you spotted that this dull racing is VERY VERY lacking .......... on so many levels

@@BlackPrimeMinister I gladly will like to join their team as a test pilot..if they will have to be
I thought about that. I like the idea, but it would most likely be a impediment to the pilots behind you. A clear visual would be essential to the race. Maybe if they equip lights. That would be less expensive. Less points of failure. No fumes. It will also work at night. That would work for the audiences in attendance and the viewers at home. This sport could be huge.

That's an incredible sport.😮👏
This is such the beginning we’re seeing jet packs that are the equivalent to the bulky VCR’s of the 70’s the sport is going to get much lighter and much faster
Jet engine design is pretty much maxed out so you can't get any smaller for the power they make for the jet engines. The biggest problem is the fuel. Jet engines are thirsty so you need to carry a lot of fuel which is heavy and bulky and the reason for the bulky size. The size of mitary jets have the same problem. The size of the aircraft is directly related to how much fuel they carry. An F-14 is small fast and nimble but can only fly an hour (7 minutes for full afterburner) while an SR-71 is absolutely massive because it carries enough fuel to fly half way across the world. They all are essentially flying fuel tanks. There needs to be a whole new different fuel that has more energy density than kerosene and that'll be hard to do. Hydrogen has 3 times the energy density of kerosene but pretty much Impossible to use in this application.
She had him
unbelievable! straight out of a movie😎
We need more of this. I love it. Just imagine how much more this could evolve.
Thank you for the jetpacks - it feels more like the 21st century now. On to flyings cars next please?
