      This note is from a year ago:
      Nikon is bringing stepping motors to its DSLR lens lineup for the first time with a pair of 'AF-P' lenses, both of which are collapsable 18-55mm zooms (one with vibration reduction, the other without). Nikon says that its stepping motor lenses are both faster and quieter than their predecessors, making them quite appealing for video recording. These lenses have two aspherical elements as well as a Super Integrated Coating, with the VR model reducing shake by 4 stops (using the CIPA standard).
      These aren't the company's first lenses to use this type of AF motor - they can be found on most, if not all, of the lenses for the Nikon 1 system

    I have D5300 with an old 18-70mm, a cheap 55-200mm, 35mmf1.8, and a 10-20mm AF-P. About covers it all for me and fits the BUDGET (fixed retirement income) Have done photography on and off and on, since the 1970s. Purchased everything on sale or used (two lenses)

      Upgraded the telezoom to a 70-300mm AFS F4.5-5.6G VR (FX) Got it used at ~55% the cost of a new. Well worth the upgrade. Sold the 55-200 in less than 2 hours after it was listed.

    This is a great camera that is very usable even if you are an experienced photographer. It is capable of great shots if you know how to use it. Buy a Nikon 35 mm 1.8 prime for $150 or less and you have a relatively lightweight camera to shoot wherever you can. Watch UA-cam and learn to use the manual settings and practice. It’s a great little Nikon with lots of nice features as shown in this great video!

    My advice for those just starting out is to get FX lenses for your DX camera(such as D5300) as FX lenses will work just fine on DX cameras, but will provide insurance for future body upgrades. DX(APS-C/crop sensor), FX(full frame). I'm saying this because DX lenses don't work well on FX DSLRs as FX DSLR will enter crop mode(DX mode) and it will be like you're using a DX camera. This is a better investment as when you decide to upgrade to an FX camera, your DX lenses will be a burden. I have this exact DSLR and am facing this problem.
    Furthermore, a kit lens(18-55mm) is fine if you're on a tight budget, but it's best to get a body only and instead of getting kit lens, to get something like a 24-70mm lens. It is pricy(around $600 used for Nikon version), but there are 3rd party alternatives available for less than $400(like Tamron and Sigma). Once you improve in photography, get more lenses based on what you want to shoot.

    Which is better for photos
    Nikon d5300 or Canon EOS Rebel Sl2 ?

    • @basselhagag2785
      @basselhagag2785 5 років тому

      look, basically canon and Nikon are good in photos with giving the edge a little bit to the Nikon but canon sl2 still produce a superb quality photos as well but if you wanna shoot high-quality video I suggest to you to go to the sl2 than the Nikon not only the 5300d but Nikon lines as general because as you can see canon camera had built a reputation for producing high-quality video recording since decades and also the sl2 got the 24fps@180p which allows you to shoot cinematic videos and 60fps@1080p for crisp and sharp images with the remarkable dual pixel autofocus that does not include in Nikon kits. at the end and in the nutshell if you wanna go photos only go for Nikon and for videos go for canon and if you are looking for both I suggest going to canon but keep in mind that Nikon pictures is better than canon a little bit.

      35 and 50mm f/1.8 lenses are great for taking portraits, doing wedding photography and also for landscape and street photography, however, that is not their limit. Just make sure you get the ones in FX format(doesn't say DX on them) as DX lenses turn your FX DSLR into DX DSLR when mounted.

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  6 років тому +1

      How much experience do you have with the lens? It could be a case of checking the minimum focus distance at the different focal lengths and for the blurry background, shooting at the widest aperture. So put it into aperture priority and set it to f3.5 at the widest, then go as close as it will focus on an object and play around until you see the difference. same at the longer end, which is better for that but the aperture on the kit lens isn't so great by the time you zoom in. But try it :)
      Sorry if i've told you stuff you already know too!

    I also went with the D5300 and the 18-105 Kit lens, the Sensor is a beast, not the 24mp (its nice to have so much mp) because the overall sensor beats everything in that price class and can compete with some higher class cams.
    For beginners its rally good, touch screen i dont need it (D5600 has it) i wanted the wifi to post some good pictures on social media (here is my collection of pictures taken with my D5300 and Mate 9, instagram.com/_mocking_bird_/)

    • @tlewisAK
      @tlewisAK 4 роки тому

      Adrian, that’s a good all around lens with a 140mm zoom. The 3.5 -5.6 is your open aperture range. 3.5 at 18mm on the lens and 5.6 at 140mm on the lens. The rest refers to lens version and that it has Vibration Reduction (VR).
      If you’re trying to do macro photography, youre probably too close to your object for your lens to get a proper focus. Try stepping back a bit and zooming in to see if that helps.
      Another thing is that your focusing mirror may be a bit out of alignment (my D3500 was like this) causing either forward or backward focus. If this is the case, there is an easy fix for this, but be patient as it can take a bit of time to dial it in. Just be sure to follow the instructions perfectly. I found my camera was front focusing and after finding this and following the instructions, I was able to dial my camera in nicely.

    Thank you for the clear, beginner friendly explanation in this video. I got a question about the D5300.
    I have access to one currently (worded like this because its not mine) with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 VR kit lens and I find the photos I get a bit too dim and I find that I have to increase the ISO to 3200 and beyond, especially since I tend to take photos around the late afternoon-sunset part of the day.
    I'm looking into getting a faster lens for it but everything is pretty much out of my price range, the closest option would be to use a vintage manual lens like the Minolta MD Rokkor 50mm f/1.7 from my father.
    Searching on how to adapt it led me to checking out lens adapters that have the glass for infinity focus that can convert the SR mount of the Minolta lens to the D5300, but I'm kind of concerned if I should go for the adapter or just save up for a fast native Nikon F mount lens.

    • @DamianBrown
      @DamianBrown  2 роки тому

      I love adapting vintage lenses although I haven't done it with this camera. I'd definitely try the adapter if it's cheap because if it goes well there's a whole world of cheaper glass out there that you could enjoy. Naturally if you have the budget for a fast native lens then sure. But there's definitely a lot of fun in those old lenses.

    Hi,
    I am considering between a D3400 and D5300.
    I will only use it to shoot indoor (99%) for properties which are usually in low light condition. I will also purchase a ultra wide angle for this camera.
    I read somewhere I believe on Quora where somebody said it is better to get a D5300 as it has more AF.
    However the ISO on the D5300 is lower than on D3400.
    Which is more important for my use? Higher ISO or AF?
    Thanks

      Both would serve you well but invest in faster lenses, 1.8 or 1.4 lenses when you can. Even a 2.8 zoom to upgrade from the kit lens. But both would give you enough potential to get to grips with the system and potential without spending too much.
