Varian has an animation when he picks his ult too? That’s cool. I’ve been playing Dehaka a lot lately and I feel like a badass when he grows his arms back. Like a 4 armed dinosaur alien thing.
Before specing, Varian has a one handed sword. Taunt: Sword and Shield. Smash: Two handed sword. Twin Blades: Twin Blades.
Gazlowe has one too if he takes Robo-Goblin.

I know it’s hard to swallow Pally, but Twin Blade is actually good, especially in QM.
It’s basically easy mode Illidan. Really easy mode. You stick to your target like crazy, don’t need mana, heal for hundreds of HP just by attaching, can solo anything at level 7 (and in 15 seconds rather than 15 minutes). It’s super weak to CC, but super effective if they don’t have enough to keep you away.
You must be in low league.
Oh I definitively am, but please go check TB’s winrate in diamond or master. It’s the best talent of the tier, and by far.

TB varian is pretty good in QM, but just because the matchmaking gives you an easy comp to fight against, not because the hero is good or anything (TB Varian is that bad though)
The stats are from hotslogs.
TB Varian is good in ranked too. Like 60% winrate good. Check the stats. He’s not "only good in QM" like we all used to know. People like to say he’s bad, since forever, but he’s actually really good.
In all fairness, one might say he doesn’t provide a lot to the team, contrary to taunt with the taunt and smash with the armour debuff, but he compensates by being a dumb version of Illidan.
I think this was the happiest I've ever heard someone be while playing HotS. Absolutely SMASHING!

I dunno, I still like to go back to the Typical QM Scumbag Nova video he did a while back. Pally roleplaying as the typical Nova was and still is hysterical to me.
Hi Pally, I played Varian a little different using C Smash. Smash drops the armor of the target by 20% so I want to inflict my dmg after the debuff lands. Smash charges as well so I engage with R. That will proc an auto, follow up with Q for the slow and heal if I took dmg during the engage and I save the shield bash to gap close if the target is getting away. My last auto after the bash is the nail in the coffin. This puts out hella dmg with high kings quest. I think you’ll like it.
I did a five stack auto select with my friends and it made me Varian. My teammates wanted winblades, but in the back of my mind all i could hear was pallytime screaming smash.
Went smash and won by a landslide. Even got mvp.

48-26 now following your builds. I ended up being the solo laner but smashing was still fun. I need this to carry me at least to Zagara because she's my last good character on the list. I finally got good with Whitemane then they changed how she plays and now I don't know if I can play her so Im in trouble the rest of the way. If I stay under 30 losses Ill be pretty happy for this A-Z
Whitemane still plays the same. They nerfed the mana return talent, but you can still take it and be fine. Before you could take Clemency at 1 and mana return at 4 and cycle abilities to heal a shit ton and return more mana than you spent. This let you permanently self and team sustain as long as you were managing cooldowns sufficiently. Now you can still do that, but instead of getting more mana back than you spent, you get just a bit less, so you actually have some mana cost for the cycle. Still playable, still good. Still strong. Just means you have to tap once in a while cause you aren't completely self sufficent with an ally nearby.

In most quick match games Twin Blades is the strongest tank talent ... and the best dps build as well. Of course Twin Blades is the most picked talent. Also that is the only talent that makes you entirely self sufficient.
So happy these are going up more frequently again :)
At 19:01, when he teased up the Smash but then didn't shout "Smash" as he executed it, that made me feel a little sad. I was giddy and would have laughed like a child.

I love twin blades, but I don't like being forced to play tank. You should pre-select before you Q, what role you want to play. Select ______ then hit play to lock in what role you want. This is why I tend to stay away from him, because I don't want to be forced to play tank, or I will be that guy who refuses to play tank, which I have in the past and will do again, so I can get him to level 15.

I find myself only going Shield Wall if they have a lot of combo/burst potential. Taking Warbringer at 10 is fucking broken. Always in your face, two gap closers (one that can also be used as an escape), plus I usually go for Lion's Maw at level 1 for the much larger slow. A Varian played this way is actually even more sticky than a damn Tracer is, its scary.
Do reason you saw the aba mines at the begining is the murky anti-stealth egg talent.

Uther should be a multi-class tank/healer. Only takes have that whole damage absorbed section, uther gets that as well, just needs a way to spec into a better version of healer, or better version of tank

technically Abathur, Cho Gall, Muradin, and Arthas can be multi class heores .Damage Arthas and Muradin for Bruisers cho gall you already know, and Abathur with the new Monstrosity heroic he can be a bruiser and with his other heroic Ultimate Evolution he can be any class in the game.

D.VA should be a multiclass too. She's not really a full tank unless you build for it (and even then not really really) and GGWP + Pew Pew Pew makes her a full-on ranged assassin that can also gain a few thousand health and fly away at greater than mount speed.

I once played a game with a Varian. We desperately needed a tank. At the beginning of the game I and another player said, "Varian please go tank and not twin blades." He replied, "Haha nope"
There was one team fight at the beginning of the game that he did really well in which he felt gave him some ammo to start shit talking our team.
After that we kept losing team fights because we all died so quick with no tank. Varian dove in and died even faster.
One game and 12 deaths later, we actually managed to win no thanks to him. I typed in chat, "gg wp lads. We managed to win despite this dumbass Varian."
He said, "Haha *I* *think* *I* *won* *it* *for* *you* "

To be fair, Blizz fucked up the MM with Varian I would say (and this is coming from a person who rarely complains at all). What I mean is, do you guys remember the patch where Varian is considered 'Bruiser' in QM role now? That's heroes like Dehaka, Sonya, Artanis and the like. Guess what? QM still often matches Varian into tank role (opponent team has tank, Varian team doesn't), that's without the tank bonus (faster que time, extra xp) for the Varian player btw.
It is somewhat understandable if some Varian players want to go dps in QM when they specifically signed in as one (in Draft, team mates should ask them which ult he's going, not assume he will go tank). I always went tank build with Varian eagerly (if I'm the only hero that can tank) in a previous QM system because I know the system put me as tank. But after the change, I sigh. I still sometimes go tank for the team, but there are times I just say fuck it. People shouldn't just assume Varian players to take the bullet when the system itself doesn't give them benefit when it should. But I agree that some players seem to have a weird fetish with winblades, which is often the lackluster, wrong ult to pick.
God, Varians are the worst - okay not all of them, but certainly most of the toxic players I've had to report have been Varians, followed by Orpheas for some reason. I suspect that it's because he's very easy to operate, coupled with his awesome presentation (he does look and act pretty cool) makes it easy to fulfill the 'badass' fantasy of rushing in, killing fools, and just owning the place. This ends up attracting the type of players who only want to do that and don't want to learn anything to actually get there. I suspect a lot of old nova players migrated to C-smash Varian (as well as chromie and valeera) since it's a much easier version of that playstyle, just as twin blades is basically an easier and better illidan.
It's a shame because Varian's actually kind of cool as a hero; his versatility lets him adapt to the game and makes him feel less like a tool and more like a soldier who reads the battle and adapts different tactics. He just ends up attracting more terrible players because of how easy he is.
