Whenever I see a video of this man I think back to the first time I saw him at Institutional Church in 1981 when I was 16, 2 years later I became his student and he became my friend. All these years later I only wish I could go back and spend the precious time I spent one on one with him, not just about the music but about life! He shared with me so much about committing my life to God and not just music. Butch you and my late mother are my musical heroes and I thank you for sharing your life with me, a kid who was awed just being in your company! Butch Heyward is the most humble GREAT musician I had ever met in my life! May God continue to Bless you sir! Bobby Thomas
I AM SO BLESSED BY THIS. Mr. Butch Heyward is and was my late dad, Mr. Ronald Francis' organ teacher in Brooklyn when Butch could schedule time. God sent this video my way this fine sunny morning and I am a ball of tears, joy and so many emotions but mosT of all sooo GRATEFUL to Mr. Jeweled for being an inspiration to my dad whose ears were just out of this world I learn as I go through his music collection and now hear this legendary anointed gifting through Mr. Butch Heyward. I really am so grateful I had to stop and I just feel my dad all over this. Thank you!
im a new York city based organist and PROFESSOR BUTCH has always been my informal teacher via all the institutional albums. if someone can tell him, it would be nice if he can do a video interview or bio about his musical career from the start to the present. we have lost many greats such as the NEW YORK WIZARD, Alfred white and we don't know much or anything about his musical background . I hope you can and will do this professor Butch because you have inspired hundreds of organist today. GOD BLESS YOU.
I agree. I'm sixty six and I grew up in New Rochelle. When I was fifteen I visited Institutional to hear Afred White play in person. I wanted to play just like him. I never got to see Butch Heyward play in person but I realized later on that everybody I was trying to learn from sounded like Butch Heyward. I called it a Brooklyn style. A better name might be the "Butch Heyward" style. I can hear it in today's organists. There definitely needs to be a bio done on him. So many of us owe so much to him.
Man! Who gave the thumbs down?! Shoot! This sounds awesome! (I've played organ for almost 25 years -August 1994; I turn 42 on Friday - and still have some work to get to this level; the instrument on my shoulder for 10 years, April 12, 2009.)
Gotta love the hammond B-3 Organ outstanding performance... God is good... just a taste of what Heaven is going to be... Praise the Lord... Halleujah !!!!
Anybody putting thumbs down doesn't deserve to have thumbs!

The thumbs downs comes from non- gospel organists...
