Pro-tip: If reading a NOVEL stimulates your mind...DON'T DO IT! Personally I do not have trouble reading, I have trouble STOPPING ("Just ONE more chapter." Yeah right). Short nonfiction pieces work better for me. Nothing that leaves me wondering what happens next. Something that concludes.

I can't even read anymore. I'll get a paragraph in, if that much even now, and end up rereading the same line or two over and over again, then fall asleep.

What I find really helpful when I have racing thoughts while trying to fall asleep is to count backwards from 100 to 0 by subtracting 3. So 100, 97, 94, 91, 98, 95, 92 and so on. You have to focus a bit to do the subtraction which stops the racing thoughts. I can tell when it is working when I start to lose my place. Normally I am asleep before I reach 0. Rarely I reach zero and just start over again but almost never reach zero on the second attempt.
Another thing I have is on my phone I have a Harry Potter read by Jim Dale. It is broken down into individual tracks that are only a few minutes each. I play it on random setting. What this does is give me something to listen to that I enjoy which stops my racing thoughts. The random tracks keeps me from trying to stay awake to listen to the next part because it jumps all around the story so I know it is pointless to try and stay awake.
Lastly I focus super hard on the blackness I see with my eyes closed. I try really hard to see with my minds eye and my real eyes an object like a ball or horizontal or vertical blinds. Usually I start to see the object become sharper and more solid. Then random images start to appear but usually only for a half second. The images become so clear and real. The more clear and real the closer I know I am to falling asleep. By focusing in on the images this stops me from having racing thoughts. Sometimes I see random transparent purple clouds or smoke that change shape. By focusing I can make the clouds stop moving or even move in the opposite direction. Again this usually stops the racing thoughts and I normally fall asleep quickly. Of course I am writing this at 2:15 AM. In many ways I think my brain works better late at night for some reason.

Awesome tips! As someone in my 20s here is what I do. I find 1st shift start times at like 5 or 6 am is to early the darkness hurts my energy level waking up. I wish it was earlier but 2nd shift does help. Work at noon or 1pm let's me wake up when I want. I can stay up till 2am at night and still get the SUPER important 8-8.5hrs of sleep I personally need.
Besides his good tips don't eat anything 2 hrs before bed. Drink as much water or herbal tea but no food. When you eat the body works on breaking it down. Plus it can make you have to crap mid sleep which really messes with sleep cycle.
No it's not perfect with me but you will learn what works as you go. Working 2nd shift let's me make mistakes without having a bad next day.

Thanks for the video! I have some observations of my own to add:
    - If one day you have to choose between sticking to your bedtime or sticking to your waking time, stick to waking time: I found that if I stick to my bedtime but not my waking time my sleeping schedule goes right beck to being a mess the day after.
    - For the blue light: if you have a lot of trouble with not looking at your phone and laptop there are apps like f.lux on laptop and Twilight on Android to dim the blue light so it doesn't keep you as much awake.

You are the reason, I'm diagnosed. Thnx, bro. I get irrationally angry with the slightest music tv noise from apartment walls even 1 am-2 am. I put the phone done 10 pm and first fell asleep at 4 am. Tried noise cancellation but could still hear my neighbours laptop and singing 11pm-3 am. I took 54 mg Sandoz Methylphenidate about 1030 am. I did get sleepy a few times but the noise which is normal convdrsatiion level is killing me. I got so frustrated. When I used to be on Concerta I could sleep with the medication. Even if I took 36 mg before bed. Sandoz should be a good substitute. Anyone experience with Sandoz.

Also diet and exercise much as it is annoying to hear regularly. Expending that energy and making sure the energy comes from natural sources helps the body to regulate energy levels. I need to purchase a bedside lamp sometime. I use fairy lights a while before bed to tell my brain it's sleep time but racing thoughts are my biggest issue. I usually use sleep meditations but I need a variety to keep my brain focused. (P.S. I haven't tested yet for ADHD/ADD but have the referral. Hopefully I get some answers).

This doesn't happen all the time, but the last few night's it's just been impossible to shut it up. I went to bed tired at 10 and now it's 6 and all I did was lay quietly with my eyes closed. First, great content.
Second, a question, btw, what academic database are you using?
Third, suggestion for an Airwick is an interesting one--and I would imagine helpful for many. I believe Airwicks have what are known as Volatile Organic Compound (VOCs), which suggests that another alternative might be better. I would suggest looking for "best non-toxic air-fresheners" or "air freshners without volatile organic compounds." Hopefully thats helpful to your subscribers.

I am trying to adopt the following as a routine to be able to be on bed by 10pm to sleep. . I have observed that my mind works on the basis of feelings, emotions about the work that i want to do. I think 2 most important thing which we usually miss is and need to change is 1. Our perception of sleep (know why to sleep how it is important for diff organs of body. I didn't like the idea of boring sleep time like it is no fun activity. To me sleep is also a "work/activity" now than a boring thing like shutting down the system. I want to see it that way. I call it sleep work. Words matters to me. They guide my emotions about some task to some extent) . 2
See identity based goal by james clear. Become the person goals than outcome based goals. Change the perception of yourself (paradigm change for getting up when you wake up by bob proctor for this : writing down with feeling repeatedly : i am grateful that now when i wake up i get up - something on this line for sleep what wordings work for you) and what you think the correct time of sleeping is. For me somewhere inside I have this subtle feeling that real time to sleep is 2am. 10 pm is too early. This needs to be changed. On task front : I have made a list of things that i need to do before sleeping like brush, dinner and things i have to avoid in night like gadgets, aimless thinking inner chatter, any overly interesting work post lets say 6 or 7 pm which I won't be able to finish before 10pm that is when i want to sleep. Then actual task of sleeping. See breadcrumbs idea how to transition from activity. Apply it here to stop the tasks (thinking about them in mind) of the day to be able to sleep. I have found that observing my breathing is helping to me for transitioning. While on bed : few Deep breaths and observing it. It calms my mind a little and I have heard it in a audio and found it to be really helpful : it is like paying attention to my feet, legs , chest , arms , shoulders, head, fingers...one by one being aware of that and feeling like they are becoming heavy and sinking down (imagine/feel)... I don't know how to say it but it makes me feel really calm and settled to sleep. I don't know if my comment would help you or not but I really wanted to share with you what I believe to be helpful to me because I understand your situation and genuinely wanted to help. I know it is hard but still we have to keep trying. May God bless you.

I never smoked weed before but I ran into someone in the bathroom in high school I was on the toliet and I started smelling something weird but I was feeling really good about myself and everything from the 2nd hand smoke and went back to class and finish my math test , I actually focused really good and made a 96 on it lol, but afterwards I ate like a pig at lunch and in P.E. class I was kicking ass in Dodgeball and at night I slept like a fucking baby lol

I use to when I was real young. Now I only do it if I've not gotten enough sleep for a few nights. Sleep talking is normal and not dangerous. Sleep walking can happen and be fine if you stay in your room and don't hurt yourself while asleep. Make sure to get 8+hrs of sleep with no caffeine within 6 hrs of bed time.
Oh stress causes it for me to. If you are real stressed out in life you probably will sleep talk more. From my experience but I'm NOT a doctor.

The background for this video is extremely boring and bland. I had to force myself to stay until the end of the video.

I know I keep replying/spamming to your older vids, but I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time out of your day to do these. Hopefully in your new relationship, they’ll be able to help with some of the burdens of your ADD. It’s really nice to have somebody who understands you, and who you can be yourself around with all the time.🐻🫂❤️
