I just did the exact same upgrade. My resolution to the mounting issue initially was to use a soldering iron to melt out the connections of the blue plastic piece. As I looked at it, I noticed that there are 2 little screws (1 is under the black anti-tamper tape). I just simply removed the 2 screws and the blue plastic piece came completely off. Then I just simply screwed the H700 card back onto the metal plate and reinstalled it in place. Works perfectly and safeguards the card itself. BTW, I have 3 2950s (2 I will repeat the H700 upgrade on) and all with the fan mod you show in the other video. Thanks for your video, helped me a lot.
It's Still a good machine for backups, SAS drives are realy cheap in bulk 10x3TB ~ £70, Caddies for this machine are also reasonable ~£2. You have the iDrac so you can power up, backup and power down when finished. This can all be automated if your willing to write the command files.
you can get a PCI SSD card and boot off that with the PE 2950 and then use the 6 bay drives off that PERC H700 card for storage I had a 2950 and that helped with all the drive bays but it depends on what u use it for in my case it was a hypervisor then a NAS but it still boot off the PCI SSD card
You're lucky... When you get a H700, chances are it is set for adapter mode. It needs to be Intergrated mode for it to be used with a PowerEdge. If this is the case, you will need to find the integrated firmware at Dell to fix this. Use a server OS to do this change. There are other ways to do this with LSI commands on the internet.

Dunno. That is definitely months/years down the line and it depends if you're willing to pay for shipping and the hassle that comes with it (or if you're local and can pick up).
Not sure for the drives in the RAID array (I think as long as you get enterprise or Dell certified SAS SSDs, it should be fine?) but there are two SATA ports inside that you can use to connect a boot drive. I'm using a regular consumer grade SATA SSD as my boot drive in this machine.

There are also two bootable SATA slots so I actually ended up just using a 2.5" SSD as the boot drive.
