Good to see Vicky (on the right in shorts @1:49) is still alive. That guy has 9 lives at least. Raja (Midland Travels - everyone knows him) and I helped Vicky so many times- once we searched hospitals all over the city when he had an 'accident' on a local train and we were sure he had died. That is Raja's mom @4:12 in the blue blouse and white pants. So many friends and acquaintances. :/ Try the biryani @6:56 and mixed veg and tandoori roti at the last food place- just before chai at the end.
In 1999 when I was there for the first time, Sudder Street was flooded under 2ft of water - I was marooned in my hotel for a day. It's only about 500 meters long I think: small area. I used to hang around with a wheeler dealer on Sudder Street called Emmanuel who ran a small travel agency and an English guy called John - both "serious drinkers" ... about a year later John got murdered in Goa. In 2000 I got married in the church there to a girl from Shillong, - we're still together. It was through Emmanuel's mad antics that I had met her. He was evicted from Sudder Street around about 2003, due to some "creative" money making schemes he dabbled in - I haven't heard from him (or of him) for over 15 years, so, presumably deceased. )-: Sudder Street is a great place for a foreigner to hang out in Calcutta, with budget hotels to semi-luxurious ones, great places to eat too, like BLUE SKY CAFE - it's a laid back place, few scams or hassles but don't expect "night life" - you really have to make your own entertainment, but in the plush hotel (forget its name) there's a nice Air Conditioned bar. The beggars there are 'professionals' - the real needy beggars are chased away, so don't give them a Rupee, also the taxis hanging out on the street overcharge - best to walk up to the museum and get a random taxi on the main drag. / wish I was there now.
@@ankanroy5131 no I've seen enough & also the culture of Rickshaw pullers, apart from old Delhi Kolkata is the only place still having that backward practice. This is the age of electric vehicles & still these men are dragging people by physical labour.
