The sheer joy displayed is infectious. The world needs more joy. Not play-acting joy, or joyous behavior meant to manipulate, but joy based on honesty & the insight someone also skilled enough to REALLY appreciate what is going on. For years I've been aware musicians frequently appreciate different music than non-musicians. Their knowledge & understanding of the music, what is happening, what it takes to make, the skill, practice, artistry, everything, makes their joyous appreciation so much more valid & therefore valuable. Musicians appreciate musicians in a way non-musicians can't. It isn't the non-musicians' fault, they aren't less of a person for it, it is just that a musician's appreciation envelopes their soul in a different & more complete way. THAT'S what the world needs more of: honest passion & joy.
IMHO Yoyoka did more than justice to this song. I know she missed a couple of crashes like some people had commented and criticized before but they forget that Yoyoka’s kit isn’t the same as Peart. We can only imagine what this kid could do with his kit. You can really tell that she enjoyed this cover (and you too) and I thought she looked like she just woke up as well. :) Anyway, this darn kid is just so fluid. She glides like an Olympic skater. Always a joy to watch her. 👍🥁🙂🤘🏼
A commenter on one of her videos said she surfs on sound. I agree. She does look like she's having more fun than the great Mr. Peart while playing it. Thanks for the enthusiastic reaction!
That girl give's me a smile on my face, all day long, every - single - time. I love everything about her, its to much to sum it all up and I've never even seen a drumstick up close, let alone holding one in my hands. She is just so freakin' amazing! Love your comments to dude. Keep it up!
Yoyoka is absolutely fantastic, thanks for your feedback and I believe she is listed among the top 500 drummers in the world, amazing she is only 11 years old. Thanks for the video
I saw your earlier reaction video to Yoyoka and found this new one, I love your enthusiastic analysis of her playing. I also know of that Ted Talk you've mentioned - the wonderful Benjamin Zander, he's actually a conductor.
:O Oh wow it's amazing you caught that reference! :D Yes that dude is incredible & completely changed the way I write music too. Such an inspiration Yoyoka is.
Great reaction! Notice also how quickly she uses her body to prepare for meter and tempo changes. This is a rare Yoyoka video where you can hear the backing track sometimes, and that’s only because she literally doesn’t have enough drums to play what Neil plays!
Really appreciate your drummer's-eye analysis of Yoyoka's performance. This seems like a REALLY technical song, and she nails it. As you say, it's going to be fascinating following her journey.
I believe Yoyoka is being spiritually helped by not only Neil but also Bonzo, Buddy, and many other great dearly departed drummers. She is truly gifted by God.
Hi Vand! Yoyoka has his sophisticated technique, just like any drum player, and he can use it perfectly. It's an experience to watch her elaborate game! Alex
I really emjoyed your reaction to Yoyo's rendition,of this great and difficult song. She is phenomenal for her age.She immerses herself in the music and just becomes the music. She adds her own touches to these songs, without affecting the integrity of these marsterpieces. There exist a groug of great female drummers in Japan currently. Yoyo is my favorite, she is so humble and respectful, whilst being a prodigy. Kudos to her Mum and Dad, for nuturing this beautiful young human being.
Awesome! lol, so I now have two playlists, one with her videos, and another with reaction videos, and dude, I've just added yours to that. Love your enthusiasm.
One of the many things I love about Yoyoka is this. My Dad was a big band drummer. All my life I've watched drummers. I do not recall ever seeing a drummer SMILE and have fun playing.
They say listening to Mozart increases your IQ. In the same way I feel like listening to Yoyoka increases my aesthetic intelligence. Raw creativity tends to decline as we get older and more set in our ways, while technical skill increases, so the sweet spot where "creativity x technique" is maximized may happen in high school or college or way beyond for a given musician, but when you have a monstrous talent this young you get to a very special part of that curve: extreme childlike creativity and childlike confidence while having incredibly good technique. This is not unprecedented in music, as we have a number of classical virtuoso prodigies like Sayaka Shoji on violin, but it seems unprecedented in rock music, and this is highly significant because rock is a much more visceral mode of expression than classical, which tends to be more abstracted. When you have a 8-11 year old laying down exactly how they feel a song, with all the technical clarity of a very talented adult, you get a unique window into that world. I remember going absolutely bonkers listening to rock when I was 7, 8, 9, etc., but I didn't have the means to convey how I felt the music to anyone else other than jumping around my living room with wild eyes. Yoyoka does. She has all the sophistication of an adult master yet with the playfulness and wonder of a child. It's a once-in-a-century phenomenon and I'm honored to be experiencing it with you and other fellow fans! Thank you!
I've been watching Yoyoka's videos for years. Clearly, she is a prodigy. It is a joy watching her develop musically. I am a musician, but not a drummer, and am fascinated with drummers' ability to isolate & manipulate the four physical quadrants of their bodies, two hands, two feet, each quadrant moving independently with a timing all its own. That is an amazing feat even at the beginner level. How you possibly remember complex songs is a marvel to me. I've been playing for years and I still need some visual aid to remember my part, whether sheet music or tablature, just something I can glance at. Maybe it's because I was classically trained to sight read sheet music, and being taught to read is actually a limitation, but regardless, your ability to remember drum music is marvelous. I appreciate your analysis of her playing. Since I'm not a drummer it helps me to understand and appreciate her playing at a deeper level. Keep it up.

You're the Joy Amplifier! :) Yoyoka playing YYZ is my go-to video to feel uplifted - and I was never even a Rush fan! It's like watching a whale leaping out of the water. Power and grace.
I went to see Rush in Charlotte NC in the 80s. I was only 14. Man was I blown away! One of the best live shows I've ever been too. Between Neil's drums and Getty's bass I felt the thump in my chest long after I left the show. Great react video. I love your style of letting us watch the whole song together uninterrupted, then your reactions that I learn from. I love watching Yoyoka play and she killed this song!
I think I read somewhere that yoyoka has been playing since she was two. Oh my. And she's been teaching since she was six. She's going to be 12 this October or 13 I can't remember but she is amazing

I am not a drummer, but bought a set of electronic drums to have something quiet I could beat the heck out of last year. Very relaxing. Of all the young drummers, Yoyoka has the most character in her drumming, so I appreciate your detailed technical perspective. The structure of your videos is great as well: watch, then break down.
You are absolutely amazing :D These kinds of comments make my heart sing and make all of this worth doing. I truly appreciate you watching the channel. I had a house fire recently and lost everything but I have an office now and will be back to posting post-haste. I have truly missed you all.
You give us such insight into this, stuff I would never have picked up--thank you! And of course, we are all waiting for the same thing, to see Yoyoka start composing original music. She's probably already written a lot of stuff, and is just waiting for the right moment to show it to the world.
Could you try her works “put me thru” ? which shows her funky groove side of drumming. And also I recommend “imagine”. Yes it is slow tempo simplest 8beat tune, but her play magically move me. I would like you to tell me why. If you could..
In that vein, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is a favorite of mine because the original is just a simple drum machine and she adds a lot of fun fillage while looking like she's having an absolute blast.
This is how I first got to know you I have been Amazed by yoyoka since she was 8 years old playing that Led Zeppelin song another drummer is from the 60s told me to watch her on the computer one day I have been a fan ever since
Beautiful video. It nearly made me cry to see your respect and admiration and love for Neil Peart, and your admiration for Yoyoka and this cover. RIP Neal. And long live Yoyoka! Great video! Keep 'em coming!
@@vand3rhorst Hey man, I can relate. My wife and I got to see them twice, and they were amazing concerts. But I'm sad we can never see them again, and I'm still bummed about NP's death. He really gave us all a lot through his playing and his words. I read "Ghost Rider" right after he died. I guess we got to be grateful that we got exposed to this great music and this great band in the first place. Keep rocking.
Good job. Love your videos. But I love Yoyoka's videos more :) But seriously, how the heck does she make it look SO easy? And she is having SO much fun!
There is another version of Yoyoka's cover of YYZ with shots of her playing interspersed with her travelling with her family to California. There are parts showing Yoyoka playing in a split screen side by side with Neil Peart (who also explains the inspiration for YYZ). Pretty cool stuff, especially for fans of Neil and Rush. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/DuH1GAjeU_A/v-deo.html
Astonishing performance by Yoyoka and a great great reaction video from Mr. Vand3rHorsrt - I agree with a comment below that this is the best reaction I've seen to this cover by Yoyo. I know your enthusiasm is genuine by the way you relate it to your own life as a drummer. Your commentary is also educational but you restrain yourself from breaking up the wunderkind's incredible performance into too many pieces and then review with a replay. I hope the other musician/educators I've seen doing reaction videos see how you're doing it.
Whoaaaaa, that is the best compliment I've gotten :D Thank you so much!!! I am glad I've been able to show everyone something new with the wheel rather than having to reinvent it xD
well just a few comments..she plays a double kick with a single pedal...she uses the slide technique to get her doubles and triples...as for her being a teacher she already is..she's been teaching others since she was 6....she said in a Qand A that this was the hardest song for her to learn ..oh and she can't read music ..she is working on it but plays more by ear as she learns notations..this young lady is a absolute monster..

Engrossing and informative analysis. 👍 The ever endearing Yoyoka has to be seen playing. It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that zing. You don't have to be a Rush fan to appreciate this performance. It stands on it's own merit. 🌹👏
If you listen really hard, especially near the end, you can hear cymbals in the song that Yoyoka was not playing at all. It came from the original track. There are also times when what you hear in the music does not match Yoyoka's toms. I learnt from another reaction video (Andrew Rooney's Drums) that this was due to Yoyoka being unable to totally "bury" the drum track for this particular song. YYZ was THAT complicated. Coupled with the fact that Yoyoka's set would also never match Peart's set, there were many things that could still be heard from the original track. All that does not actually amount to a criticism. She knew full well that there were parts that she could not replicate with her kit, so those parts could still be heard. All in all, it meant that her team (probably her dad) would leave it in the cover and not attempt to edit it out, making this cover VERY genuine. Hence, it was really a touching tribute to Neil Peart (as she states in her own video description). She did her best with what she had, but left the rest of the track intact. Couldn't ask for a better tribute from her.
@@vand3rhorst AAAnd.. watch!! Dude recommended "Put Me Through" in the comments. I'll second that bro. So fun to watch. She has "star" power, entertainment factor, to match the skills. Thanks for explaining the technical stuff people like me don't get. Stoked you are getting so much out of all this and sharing.
Musician or not, I think some people just "feel" music differently. If there's music playing, you'll see some people that are just sitting still, while others, even if they're involved in doing something and not paying attention to the music will be tapping their feet, or swaying along with the rhythm. And some people, even if there's no music playing will be bouncing or nodding their head to their own internal rhythm. I think Yoyoka is one of those. She just seems to have music flowing through her veins.
Will somebody who knows somebody contact Geddy Lee and hire Yoyoka for a RUSH series of live concerts in Vegas somewhere for 2 wks? PLEASE!??! They wouldn't need to fly all over the place- let fans travel to one spot. Less logistics and hassles for Rush as well!
Hi Nick! When you said, "Buy 10 ply heads!" Did you mean 10 mil. heads? I use Remo Ambassador heads on my small toms. Single ply 10 mil. batter, 3 mil. resonant side. I use Remo Powerstroke 3 batters on my floor toms. I use a Remo Powerstroke 3 clear dot on my detuned Sonor snare, 3mil. Ambassador resonant side. My Pearl piccolo snare has a 7.5 mil Remo Diplomat batter and a 2 mil. Remo Diplomat resonant side. On my bass drums, I use Remo Powersonic batters and Ambassadors on the resonant side. I've never seen a drum head of any brand using more than 3 plys. I have seen heavy metal idiots use 5 Remo Emperor heads on a snare and strip the lug threads. If, I'm incorrect, please correct me. Best Wishes! Russ
It seems I might have mispoke when I said 10-ply. I seem to remember being able to buy super thick heads that were more than 1 layer thick. I might be thinking of 2 or 3 ply, I just was tryin to say the thickest heads you can buy because you can always tighten them to get the proper feel etc. haha Thanks for asking that!
@@vand3rhorst Hi Nick! the venues I've played at have been pretty diversified. I've played everything from cocktail lounges to South Mountain Arena. If you're playing soft jazz or soft rock, an Emperor head just can't produce the sound. If you bang loud enough to be heard, the entire audience will be ticked off at you and also your band members will. Thick heads cause sound compression and decrease dynamic range. Conversely, when we played at the Capitol Theater, I sent my keyboard player to the last seat of the lower mezzanine during sound check. I hit my unmiced Rogers Piccolo snare with Diplomat heads and he heard it loud and clear. Yes, in my younger days I broke a lot of Diplomat heads. I played like Junna. However, I matured and developed sticking and striking that decreased head damage. The bottom line is: What are you really trying to achieve? What sounds are you really trying to make? What pleases you? For every drummer out there, the answers are different. Hang in there! Russ
@@vand3rhorst Hi Nick! Emperor X heads has 2 -10 mil. plies with a 5 mil. bottom sound dot. That's Remo's thickest drum head. Aquarian Triple Threat has 3-7mil. plies. Aquarian Impact Head has 2-10 mil. plies with a 10 mil. bottom sound dot. This is the thickest head I can find. Russ

I would love to react to this buddy! thank you!
I will live with that 1 regret my entire life, not seeing them in concert/meeting Neil.
She's already a teacher. Check out her "drum lesson" series. Excellent instruction combined with an overdose of cute!
I watch her drum lesson #5 when I'm down and she lifts me up everytime!
Awesome. Thanks for the link!
Damn she is Awesome 🤩
That's just that good old fashioned Samurai training: 3 to 8 hour of training per day!
Nailed it
well just a few comments..she plays a double kick with a single pedal...she uses the slide technique to get her doubles and triples...as for her being a teacher she already is..she's been teaching others since she was 6....she said in a Qand A that this was the hardest song for her to learn ..oh and she can't read music ..she is working on it but plays more by ear as she learns notations..this young lady is a absolute monster..
And she learn all normal song in 2 plays and the hard one in 6 plays ;)

I resonate with this so deeply. This is absolutely the perfect comment. :) It is so true...
It's called "The Yoyoka Effect!
Engrossing and informative analysis. 👍
The ever endearing Yoyoka has to be seen playing. It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that zing.
You don't have to be a Rush fan to appreciate this performance. It stands on it's own merit. 🌹👏
Well said friend!! :D Very true!
she is chostnotes master!!
I completely agree it was so good I've listened about 5 times today already.
I can't wait to see her cover Tool. If she can nail YYZ, imagine what she can do playnig Tool,
This song immediately makes me think Guitar Hero
im not a drummer but I understand music. how could anyone downvote this reaction?
haha I appreciate this very much xD I try and do the best video content I can :D 1 man army here! Much love!!
You'll find out soon she literally has teaching videos at the age of six or seven amazing
Neil would be proud
Just beaming with pride he is hahaha
Neil played in socks, Yoyoka plays in socks.
HEY Just thought of something horst mt what YYZ means YOYO zone.
Saw them when i was a senior in HS when they did the Perm Waves tour. Assigned seating kind of sucked though.
that does kinda suck but it's awesome you got to see them. Was the show worth it?
Please check out Yoyoka's amazing performance of 'Speed King' by Deep Purple.. ;)
YOYOKA is sponsored by Remo as well as others.
よよかちゃん👍💘👏
she's frightening, and peoples often forget she's only 11yo right now, this is not even her final form...
Ima do more research into this too.
Russ
This is actually an extremely informative comment for me as I too am developing proper strike technique with movements n stuff too. Thanks Russ!
ALthough it is a different kind of drumming----I'd love to see your reaction to:
Mt Fuji Taiko festival/Hiryu High School/2011 and 2012
The only girl to equal Yoyoka !
I really believe she's the Mozart of drumming. Rhythm is wired into her being. If you look at this video of her at age 3, she is jamming with her dad in not the simplest beat. Imagine being able to do this before you could talk or barely walk...

Watching this weekend with you I know it's been 2 years ago hope you're doing good hope you're still getting these messages
I am my friend! I miss ya and hope you're doing well. I am doing the drum streams again while life finishes settling out :D Great to hear from you chris!
Can you imagine how she must have felt knowing that she had mastered this song and is kicking his butt
I mean that with respect
In one of her live streams she talked about this is one of the most difficult songs she has learned
Except her arms are not cantaloupe sized, they're more like Tangerine sized!
have your reacted to good times bad times - led zeppelin yoyoka's cover? pelase do that too..cheers
Great reaction. Anyway, can i request your reaction to superb band from japan?
The band is call "Lovebites"
They all Beautiful female metal band. But they are really really World class musicians.
And they have a lot fans too.
The song is "Winds of Transylvania"
Hope you check out, and can enjoy it too. Big thanks🙏
And anyway Lovebites have insane drummer
@@hiufernando7340 Yeah! They are coming tomorrow :D I am very excited for them too!
@@vand3rhorst great. Thank you
Wil fee what Neil would have thought ??
She's obviously insanely good.
What's up with the snare though? it's got a rattle sound to it.
I guess everybody knows that she now lives in California welcome to the USA
Hi
Hello There!
Yoyoka is also Sponsored by Pearl and is the youngest person to ever be on the top 500 Drummers List...no kidding. And she been given a Guest Professorship at a Tokyo University.
Yoyoka can't read music. She just clones what she hears. She don't know what a 16th note is. But she knows what it supposed to sound like :)
