    Great video. Well explained. I bought a MV II because of this video.
    Love it...Thanks!

    Hi I wonder if you can help me. I bought a 2nd hand Alesis Microverb II and I connected it to 2 guitar amps, and my guitar to the input and yet I have no sound from the unit. It acts like there's is only one amp connected to it and allows an unefected sound to pass. I expriemented all the pots but I couldn't get any reverb sound. Is there somethin' I'm missing here? I would like to notice that I own several other reverbs ( ART, Lexicon, Quadraverb GT ) and I have never had this kind of issues. Thanks in advance.

      Hi Jorge - try these steps (although you probably already have!):
      1. Check that the reverb unit is actually working (e.g. connect it between your CD player and hi-fi amp).
      2. If something is plugged into the DEFEAT input, that could be suppressing the effect content - worth checking there's no problem with that.
      3. I am not sure these units have sensitive enough inputs for a guitar plugged in directly. You may have to wind the input gain up quite high.
      4. I assume you are plugging your guitar into the L input, as this is connected to R input internally if nothing is plugged into the R input socket - the reverse is not true!
      5.The percentage of reverb effect vs. direct (dry) sound is varied by the mix control on the front- check that control is working.
      That's all I can think of at the moment - good luck!

      Those units are made for Line inputs not Instruments.

    Where could i get a power supply for this ? its 9v AC with a small tip? looked on ebay etc

    • @FarewellOldFriends
      @FarewellOldFriends  6 років тому +1

      Googling revealed a third-party AC adaptor (wall-wart, UK plug) on sale in the UK with small cylindrical low voltage plug - that could be cut off and re-wired with a 3.5mm (or was it smaller) jack plug. Sadly the days of mains adaptors with actual mains transformers in them are pretty well over. I have often wondered whether, since the unit just has a bridge rectifier on the inside, a 9V DC supply could be used instead.

      I bought a Digitech replacement power supply (RockPower Power Supply Adapter NT 21 EU) for 17 EUR from Thomann and added a standard mono mini jack, works a charm.

      I think a recent reissue of the Electro Harmonix Small Clone guitar pedal used the same PSU, with the same jack plug - they're on eBay for £10 or so.

    thank you . it has been very usefull. do you know what "defeat" means on the right of the rear panel (i m french I hope you understand).

      Sorry for the delay in responding. It's really made for live performers - you can plug in a footswitch to switch off the reverberation while you talk to the audience between songs.

    Almost bought.. found @ $25 with shipping. But hesitated because of so many ios app doing reverb, I'm not sure if analog like these (from 90's) is still better than today's cheap ios reverbs or even other reverb pedals selling at

      This isn't analog, it's digital. Maybe you meant 'hardware' when you said 'analog'

      I have one, and also a Stymon BigSky - obviously a much more capable unit. I bought the Microverb mainly because I was curious to hear what a digital reverb unit from the 1980s sounds like, and also because I wanted to feed a reverb into another reverb.
      With the mix knob at 25% preset LARGE-4 makes a nice ambient wash, in fact it's the preset I use most. It's a shame there's no EQ control though because the reverbs all tend to be very bright. If you have outboard gear with 1/4 jack plugs and want a splash of latency-free reverb $25/£25 is a steal provided you have the odd power supply. I don't want to oversell it - a free plugin such as Valhalla Supermassive is much more flexible - but at the very least it looks cute.

    Funny as I purchased the Nanoverb 2 hoping to get a wide stereo reverb like this box demoed here. Instead, the Nanoverb 2 is mono (no matter how you plug it) and sounds really hollow. It's strange.

    • @FarewellOldFriends
      @FarewellOldFriends  6 років тому

      This sounds very odd - the Nanoverb 2 Quick Start Guide (download from Alesis) majors on its Stereo processng, and there are stereo in and out jacks. To that extent it's no different from the Microberbs. I know you imply you've tried all sorts of connections, but it's still worth re-checking.
      if you are bringing the Nanoverb L & R outputs back into your mixer on two separate channels, check that they are panned hard left and hard right respectively.
      Quickest check is to patch the Nanoverb (set to large hall, MIX fully wet) in line between your mixer main LR bus out and your amplifier, and listen for a wide stereo reverb effect.
      Also, bear in mind that most processors in this price/performance category create stereo effect sounds from a mono source, i.e. while the L-R inputs are fed to L-R outputs (stereo in, stereo out), both L&R inputs are combined and fed to the processor, which creates separate left and right effects which are then blended in (via the MIX control) with the separate L and R outputs. So you can't use the unit as two completely independent processor channels. This is why you can use it in MONO-IN, STEREO-OUT mode by just feeding the L input from your mixer's mono reverb send, setting MIX to full wet, and bringing L&R outputs back to your mixer's stereo FX return inputs.
      Of course, the unit could be damaged... ;-)

      @@FarewellOldFriends There were two slightly different models shipped of the Nanoverb 2, there is one that has different type of frontplate (i.imgur.com/Yu3Sfdo.jpg) from the one I own i.imgur.com/UcRlVAr.jpg
      The first one seems to have full stereo sound (as I've seen in some UA-cam videos), but the one I have is very much mono and sounds pitiful. And yes, it might be that the entire batch is just DOA.
      This video shows what it sounds like, it's very odd >> ua-cam.com/video/klmqDcPbQJ8/v-deo.html

    • @FarewellOldFriends

      Wow - that's really odd!
      So we have two types:
      1. Unit with effects, some grouped, including TAPE (your first picture), which was:
      a) Shown as a pre-production model in the SOS video when announced by Alesis (on Numark stand) at the 2011 Musikmesse.
      b) Never reviewed on UA-cam as a purchased (i.e. production) item.
      c) Never demonstrated in terms of its audio performance.
      2. With may different separate effects (your second picture), which is:
      a) Currently advertised on the Thomann site (but looks like computer generated product images).
      b) Illustrated in the Alesis QuickStart guide (although Alesis consider it legacy equipment, i.e. they don't make it any more).
      c) Demonstrated on all effects settings in the Russian video you linked to.
      The second type (from the Russian video) gives true stereo delays, but only a thin mono reverb component, which is as you describe the one you own.
      We know that Alesis no longer advertises effects processors. Also, their founder died in late 2010. Is it possible that the Nanoverb 2 name was licensed to some other company for production, and is not doing the proper processing, maybe due to software licensing issues and/or manufacturing costs? Who knows?
      Looks like you'll have to try and find an old original Nanoverb!

    Nice. I have one :) But I think it sounds more natural and cleaner at a bit smaller mix setting. Try 9-10 o'clock instead of 12. Really good at the large halls :)

    does anyone know how to use this with an interface?

    • @FarewellOldFriends
      @FarewellOldFriends  7 років тому

      Probably best to do it after recording the tracks to be effected 'dry' into your DAW.
      Play the tracks out into the microverb's input(s) through the interface's line-out(s) while recapturing the microverb outputs via one or two of the interface's line inputs.
      You then have an effect track that can be blended in during mixdown. You may have to pull it forward in time to compensate for computer/interface I/O delay.
