He targets grassline edges on points adjacent to deeper water during this time. They’re intersection points that gather schools of bass in transition between winter haunts and spawning flats, and a crankbait is the best way to contact these fish and trigger bites. Rather than change lures to adjust for changes in depth, Swindle keeps the DT 6 in play while adjusting line size to get the bait deeper or shallower for the situation. No, in fact he prefers the stock VMC hooks on his DTs, we shot another video specifically addressing that the ones that come on the bait perform best in his opinion.

3 rods with the DT6 Demon in 12, 14, and 16lb test. There is one more DT 6 rigged up in the firetiger color to mix it up in case the fish need a new look to trigger a bite.

Hey Gerald: Those LMB position habits you described so well; do those position habits apply to smallies?
They do. They will use points and pockets in the grass and will bunch up in the prespawn on current seams and faces around the grass. Tennessee River smallmouth are roamers. They get ganged up in current areas in the prespawn and that's when a lot of the groups and bigger smallmouths are caught. But they spread out a lot as the water warms after they go to spawn and can be harder to pinpoint as they roam a lot more chasing bait later in the season.
Thanks! Your explanation makes perfect sense. I begin smallie fishing at the end of June (after the spawn) (that's the law in Ontario where I live). So I'm having to find the roamers. Few and far between, but they sure are fun to catch! It's a challenge because I use a kayak and no fishfinder.

Water temp is really important for the timing on this system. His bow mount SOLIX was reading 53.7 degrees

Nothing unique or specific to crankbaits here. Pretty sure he just used a Palomar knot.
