  • These photos were taken in the sixties era and before. One can see the ferry service (lanca) between Sliema and Valletta. Streets around inner Sliema and around the foreshore of Sliema. The Old church of tal-Karmu in Balluta and the Balluta Buildings which were built in the early Twenties.

We just spent some time this morning viewing your videos Louis. They are all worth watching over and over again. The photos are simply beautiful and bring so many fond memories to us, oldies.
Thanks for sharing the wealth of our Malta.

Josianne, I know Sqaq Sajjan pretty well for I was born and raised in Bugeja Buildings, not far from there, just below the police station. In sqaq sajjan my wife's great grand parents lived there, the first house as you go in the alley on the left..............Louis

The destruction of Sliema is only in part to be attributed to Maltese governments, as it is mostly the result of greed from the parts of the owners. These were the children and grandchildren of those who originally built what was a genteel town and one of the most beautiful coastal towns in the Mediterranean. As a child from Qormi I used to wander at the beautiful buildings of the Sliema seafront every Saturday as in summer we used to go there. Than from about the mid-eighties the destruction of the whole waterfront happened in a few years. I still remember a Casa Said painted in red and the Cisk's villa were there is now a gelateria. At least we have preserved most of the Balluta area.

Ignorance …to replace beautiful architecture with cheap faceless flats.
