Not enough time in life to do a deep dive if I'm not going to use the data, but it's a bit confounding. Population peaked about 5-10 years ago, but housing costs are sky rocketing still. Maybe it's the regional displacement of available housing or like the video is talking about, a change in household makeup. Side note: Korea should start experimenting with old people residences mixed with daycare. They've done it on a small scale in the West.
Historically, Korea's population was always much smaller than it is now. These statistics are not very useful in understanding Korea today. Housing density is beyond anything imaginable in the US. Also mass transit infinitely better in Korea. So our family doesn't need to all live in one house. My in-laws are just a short taxi or subway ride away. Even our family in other cities is easily reachable by KTX or taxi. Transportation in Korea is excellent. So younger family can live near 학원 and older parents live near mountains or their friends. There's more flexibility now. Getting family together for Chuseok and Seollal isn't what it was in 1990s (an ordeal). Korea moves fast. Very fast. I live in both the US and Korea. The differences between the US and Korea are like night and day. Korea has a much larger and healthier middle class than the US. Korea has essentially no natural resources and little habitable land (its mostly mountains). Also automation is the future. You don't need as much unskilled labor as in the past. Any discussion of population should consider the historical trends, geography, dynamic nature of the situation and changes in technology happening.
The term "mononuclear family" does not mean "person without relatives". It means people who live alone, independently of relatives. I have two elderly parents and two adult children, but I am still a mononuclear family, because I live alone.
If you were intelligent you'd realize the fact you can even freely say something like that, but can't say the opposite if you were in North Korea, says everything you need to know about how evil North Korea is.
This is an international issue in wealthier countries 🌍
im already living like this, way ahead of schedule

This problem is global with social media and inflation.
After listening to real people views of South Korea that’s it’s nothing like a k drama. I am much less interested in going there.
😅you thought it was like K drama 😅
You should go and judge for yourself and stop believing what others say. Went there and had a great time.
How can you expect it to be like something that's not real 😂
No place is like what is portrayed in the media (with exceptions). Korea is still a great tourist destination.
M0ron is not real life ...u actually it reality u see on tv is Korea lol 😂

Why do most of the population live in Seoul…are there no other cities with employment?
It is the capital. Of course, other areas have employment.
So sad 😢
North Korea's economic system, values, and culture is proven right
Move there then 😊
