"The Fly Swatter" George Johnson was a long 6'11" center for the Golden State Warriors in 1975-76 and was part of the two center rotation for the Warriors along with Clifford Ray. Although Johnson wasn't playing big minutes, he was still blocking over two shots a game that year so Johnson was an intimidating force in the middle of the paint.
Not only was Johnson a defensive force in the middle, he also was a good rebounder and outlet passer in his limited minutes. George Johnson was slim but he had excellent timing on the boards and had the ability to outlet a rebound to the right teammate before his feet hit the floor. Although his role wasn't to score at a high level, Johnson had a nice jumper and he could hit it if left open. The combo of Johnson and Clifford Ray were invaluable in the middle during the Warriors title run '74-75 and the Dubs were even better during the regular season the following year during the regular season. Ray was the starter at center so when Johnson entered the game, the Warriors defense in the paint got even stingier. Big George led the NBA in blocks three times and even had a game high 17 boards in '75-76 so he was really good on the defensive side of then court. George Johnsonhad a 15 year career so perhaps his platooning with Clifford Ray helped his longevity in the NBA. Goerge Johnson was an important player for the Warriors albeit in limited minutes but his quality of play was much greater than his minutes on the court would reflect.

Great pick! I forgot how good George was. I certainly remember him on those strong GS teams platooning with Clifford Ray. I remember him being amongst the tops and blocks, but I forgot he led the league a few times. Not surprising though.
And you can see most of the time he doesn't really want it he keeps the ball in bounds. Like Russell usually did.
He helped the Warriors keep the flow going offensively and defensively, though he didn't score much. Ran effortlessly and just fit in.
And of course Rick got the ball to whoever was open, especially if they were in position to score.
