Lawmakers End Negotiations Until Monday After Disagreements

The Senate introduced a new ultimatum Friday afternoon that the House wouldn't agree to, effectively ending negotiations until Monday.
The Senate wanted the House to agree to override any budget vetos, claiming the House and governor have been working behind the scenes.
The House refuted those claims, now saying the Senate is holding up the process.
Before all of this unraveled the two chambers did make a huge agreement on law enforcement pay raises.
After the back and forth all week, lawmakers agreed to increase the minimum and maximum sheriff pay by $25,000 across the board.
Any counties that are already paying above the minimum salary will not be forced to bump pay, but lawmakers say any pay raises are encouraged.
They’re also putting $20 million extra into an existing fund to go towards equipment and operations funds, with a formula for distributing that money dependent on county size.
Because of Friday's stall, the House and Senate won't even get the chance to override budget vetos because of the legislative timeline and a session ending date of May 31.
The two chambers are hoping to reach an agreement on Monday, but at this point, there's still a lot of unknown.
