Wow! It's amazing that you see a need for the service to support women who want to start hiking.... I only wish it was available in California
The Confident Solo Female System is an online, self paced program so you can be anywhere and in any time zone to be a part of this course. Even though I'm personally located in Washington, my program helps women all over the country. I even have a few students in California. :)
Good info, and here is 1 bonus tip regarding water filtration. Be sure to put your water filter somewhere it doesn't get frozen like your pocket. Once frozen they are no good and will need to be replaced. Also consider bringing water purification tablets as a back up along with your camp stove in case you need to melt snow for water.
Great point! This is why I always have water purification tablets in my backpacking first aid kit. I used to use a water bladder as part of my water filtration system and one time while out snowshoeing, the tube froze on me. That was quite the lesson!
Hello 👋 Kathleen, greetings from Northern California. Thank you for sharing your 'words of wisdom' on winter hiking. Winter is my favorite time of year for hiking. Take good care of yourself. Stay safe and healthy out there. 🤗 👋
Thanks for watching!
Great tips, you packed this so enjoyably and simply overall fantastic quality my friend!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Super helpful information! Thanks for sharing all the planning info, I think it’s one of the hardest/most important parts of backpacking in winter conditions
Agreed! Trip planning for ANY trip in the backcountry can be stressful and intimidating, especially when you're trying to plan something during the winter. It's certainly not impossible to plan something in the winter. There are just more things to consider and think about when putting a trip together during the colder months.
I absolutely love that you have created these classes!! You are so knowledgeable about the trails and I would absolutely love to join one of your classes to get more confident on the hikes I would love to go on. I know you live here in Washington and so do I in the Tacoma area so meeting at one of these trails is nothing! I will definitely be looking into joining your classes and to meet youu!!🥰
This is awesome! I actually have quite a few students in the Tacoma/Olympia and peninsula area here in Washington!

you make hiking and camping beautiful
No, not me! Mother Nature does that all on her own. I’m just here for the hike. 😀
i was ther
Protect your electronic. Battery drains faster in cold weather. I had a long 2.5 miles back to my car once, thankfully no sidetrails to accidentally end up on. Another time when was just 10 minutes from my car when I wasn't on a full on hike.
Great advice! I share this piece of advice in all of my winter hiking/camping videos because it's so important.
We just went hiking this last weekend in Michigan. I wish this video came out a week ago, lol! Thank you again! I will add some new gear to my bag.🩷
Actually, this video came out 3 weeks ago. 😂 Hope this one is helpful for your next winter hike. 😀
@@TheHungryHiker 🤣 That's too funny.
Guess its not too hard to winter hiking it was 27 yesterday now it's 70 lol
The temperature fluctuations can actually make winter hiking pretty challenging. You don't want to wear so many layers that you sweat, but you also want to wear enough clothes to keep you warm when it's cold out. It also depends on where you're hiking. Winter hiking doesn't just mean hiking in the snow either. It gets warm here occasionally throughout the winter up here in PNW. The big takeaway here is to be prepared for anything that winter might throw your way.
