Here's some feedback; idk if it's helpful tho: I want to interact with the app and do stuff bc I like it. I like the choices you've given. I like the activities. I like the art. I like that it doesn't burn you out in one sitting. Although, obviously, you run out of stuff to do after being in there for a while and you have to come back later. This is fine, but the problem is, I always forget to come back. It would be really easy for someone to completely forget about it and never return even with push notifications. I wish there was an optional mini-game of some sort with the pets. No cost, but also no growth and experience. Just something to do if you run out of stuff to do but still feel like you want to do a little bit more, and people who don't want to do it wouldn't have to to still enjoy the app
@@RosanaRuFer I never said pressure. I said give an optional, explicitely no-pressure no-exp no-etc, additional mode in case you WANT to keep doing stuff
To be honest I forgot about the app on my phone after day 1. I think having push notifications daily or every 2 days as a reminder to let says "don't forget to have some bonding time with (insert pet name)" that might help to remind me. Edit: didn't realize this is in the settings.
This is a double-edged sword as well. I experienced a lot of notification fatigue, and I block the notification of non-essential apps, or if it catches me in a bad mood, I install it immediately. I don't want annoying messages.
In my opinion, one of the most important aspects to consider is data privacy when using Voidpet. It's crucial to understand how your data is being used and if your journaling text will be analyzed later on. Could you provide more information on your approach to handling user information? These types of apps are very personal since they essentially function as a digital diary.
It's amazing to have a healthy addiction to an app! I love it! Maybe in the future you could add the option to do the health care exercises without having to be catching any pets and without earning points, just for doing them!
Man, isn't it just fun how creating a product nowadays is just "make a highly addictive drug to sell, preferably not illegal. Don't think about the users and how these apps affect them. Revenue is all that matters."
I agree, this is a sad state of affairs. However, it seems it's what the users crave these days. It's a catch-22. What other ways would you suggest to engage users? Ever since the Googles and Facebooks figured out how to tap into users dopamine cravings without actual physical drugs, it became all but impossible to write an app that wasn't gamified somehow to attract users 😢
To be fair atleast this app is aimed at journaling and self reflection which has been shown in multiple studies to be beneficial for mental health. A lot of people do highly destructive things without the help of apps, atleast an app that helps people build a habit out of something beneficial in theory should be a bet positive for all involved
Dude I've been following u since a while. U inspire me to do things on my own. Idk why but i moved from python onto a long journey into the depth of Assembly lol. 😢
bro didn't wanna say this but the whole thing looks just absurd to me. I didn't found any element of liking in it to me and i just don't understand what the heck of a self care its giving to people.
I still can't believe you made this in React Native when Flutter is the better choice in my opinion since you can leverage the Skia engine to 2D render directly 🤔 (and still have access to all those nice layout thingies we all love so much)
Major flaw is that most downloads are from subscribers and fans built from your platforms, otherwise this boring app would not be so revered. Sure I was part of the 100k+ that downloaded it but I uninstalled after 1 week.
How is that a flaw? Having a fanbase before launch is one of the keys to success of any game. That's why building social media accounts, having Discord/Reddit discussion forums, and Kickstarter/Patreon is an important part of any indie developers game development. You can have the greatest game ever but if you don't promote it, you have a one in a million chance of making a profit.
@@coherentpanda7115 I think they meeant the app itself doesn't have a great added value, but ppl are installing it because they want to be supportive. Althou what you said is correct and help in publicity, but if the app is not attractive enough, publicity and fans will only give false hopes.
@@coherentpanda7115 because the success isn't from a "great app," it's from a loyal fanbase. not sustainable. if the app was better, more than his fanbase would be invested.
The decision to make it a single player has taken all the fun out of this. I tested this app for one day and then uninstalled it. Converting it from a pokemon like game to a self care app was a dumb decision because it made boring. Now there is little to no satisfication in completing any tasks. After a month or two, your retention plummet if it continued to be a single player app. Bring back the original idea of it being a game with multiplayer battles.
First 40 secs felt like personal attack on me .
The transition to product lead was hilarious!
You are doing great work, Ben
Step 1: Build a youtube channel with 400k+ subscribers :P
Step 2: Advertise your app every month to your 400k subscribers

is that like game Pou where you can play game with your Pou
Following this app’s journey has brought me to the realization of how integral marketing and advertising is in this particular product space

Great video Ben! Awesome to see the journey of voidpet in a very transparent way

He pretty much just did with the latest video, everything is stored locally apparently

“retaining a user in an app is a lot easier than retaining a romantic parter” facts 😔
Super interesting, I have similar ideas for my app retention but have no time to implement them lol !
also, your app doesn't require payment to enjoy. Once you start forcing users to drop dollars to keep having fun, that retention will drop a lot
6:56 I think it is because people just click yes yes, to skip the prompts. Notifications are super annoying
Which app are you using to view your user retention at 0:45?
mixpanel
Looks like Mixpanel
Looks like Plausible.
i was thingking the same, waht is the app @ben
Probably Mixpanel

it’s almost like a capitalist system encourages profits over people 😱😱
And you think it was different "back then"?

ben give me a job (i know how to center a div)
lol
Must be hard to organize so many employees, good luck
You have a youtube channel which helps a lot. That's why I downloaded it.
Love the part that it's designed to take up 5 minutes a day. Made me download

I love that you're back man. Best in the casual coding game
I really loved that the app was in browser, I could play it on my linux phone, but yeah, I get you. Keep it up Ben.
I love the art. Pls, what tech stack did use for the front end?
What’s that analytics app that he got the graphs from?
what app are you using to keep track of app events
There are still start-up bros out there saying Unicorn company lol
Is this a completely personal project for you or do you have a team of developers whom you actively manage and work alongside?
bro didn't wanna say this but the whole thing looks just absurd to me. I didn't found any element of liking in it to me and i just don't understand what the heck of a self care its giving to people.
I wish there was a social feature to showcase my trees and pets
ccan you upload the music that plays during quality time interactions please
Are u using expo?
Hey ben , please recommend some resources to learn react native ? LEARNING BY MAKING PROJECTS SOMETHING LIKE THAT ?
Oh, so this app is yours! This app is so cool:) I've recently downloaded it and really enjoy it
Hey Ben,
I would love to see your next video on the coding and other things that made this lovely app.. meet up soon in next video
I play that Kitty Collector app, it's pretty sweet 👍🐈⬛
Did you outsource any of the work?
How does the app make money
Had to like the video as soon as I heard that intro.
Void pet web and mobile app are the same?
EDIT: Oh well just ended the video... will expecting it! great journey ahead ben!
Is this also React Native?
Did you use flutter?
No. It's React Native
Who's doing your psychometrics?
i didn't get any of it but i just downloaded it and will check by myself
Is this app built with React Native or native?
expo
Beautiful! love it.
Today I got to know how Microsoft Google might be stealing our data.
Really glad to hear this app is getting traction. I need to try it soon.

react native has skia too now
I’m excited about the coding video!

Another way to be a degenerate that I've found, if you adjust your phone time manually you can bypass a lot of the time locked mechanics.
Did you say you and Linda? lol...
I like this app, very professional, what a great job you have done 👏🤓💪👍😍🤩😌😘🤗😎
Not 100k it's 50k
is he using google analytics for those user insights?
I hate streaks
The secret to getting all these downloads? Become a large UA-camr before you make it.
my gf checks the app at least 15 times a day minimum i think u are making her anxiety worse ben pls fix this she has a pet named Mustard
I hate waiting
Wtf dude you have 470k subscribers and are you talking about how easy to get a lot of app downloads??
