  • Starting off my trip to Wales on Friday, 4th August I stopped en-route to the Brecon Mountain Railway for their 1030 departure, travelling from Pant (3 miles north of Merthyr Tydfil) and entering the breathtaking Brecon Beacons National Park to Pontsticill before climbing up to Torpantau, here we observe the locomotive run round before decending back to Pontsticill, where we have a look around the station and steam museum, before returning back to Pant as the rain begins to fall.
Videos from this trip will be uploaded every Monday and Thursday, hit subscribe to make sure you don't miss any!

Ben - Thank you very much for this. My name is Chris Brown and I was the fireman on this trip (the one with the grease-top cap). The driver was Mike Hills and the guard was Gary Griffiths. The first trip up to Torpantau is always challenging as the line climbs in the wooded section can cause the wheels to slip, as your video shows. Mike handled it well and we got to the summit in good time. You'll have to come again when the sun is shining and do a re-take. The views really are second to none and I have the good fortune to ride the line every day. Kind regards and thank you once again.

Thank you very much for your comment, really appreciated. Having not visited the line before, even on this not so sunny day the views even so were clearly amazing and I had a thoroughly amazing time, and I have to say that climb was very well handled. I would love to come back on a sunny day and this is certainly something I will be looking in to in the near future. Many thanks again for a great day.
      Ben

yep the one thing your never short of in wales, rain, but when the sun does shine, it can get really hot, somewhere in between is just about right, enjoyed the fact that it was a nice leisurely trip, after all, thats the whole idea, time to unwind and forget the mad rush of modern life, and, plenty of time to take in, all of the scenery, yep pleasant, i was wondering, is the grease in the carriage axles, sealed in, or do they have to be topped up, something was a bit squeaky ? normally when the wheels slip, the pistons speed up, wasnt aware of that happening, i did a lot of engineering work, so a lot of different machines, and, i learnt to listen to the sounds they make, you can always tell, when something isnt right, because they tell you, a quick fix, is better than a stoppage, and, will save money, in the long run, maybe i should, give, that last bit, to chris brown, but its your video
