I started listening to the Beatles during my freshman year of college after getting super tired of the generic "mumble rap" crap that everyone listened to. At some point I stumbled upon one of your "genius of _____" videos and that series motivated me to take up guitar myself. Two years later and I saved up enough to buy a made in Japan Casino and Rickenbacker 330 to be able to start truly emulating my favorite songs. Just wanted to thank you for all you do with your channel, you've certainly made a difference in my life.
Mike, love your work! This is a brilliant and thoughtful rendition. You really complement the spirit of the original. Great insights, and thank you so for generously sharing. Play on, brother!!!
Thank you for your clear and patient lessons here online! Much help in putting some of these beautiful songs together in my mind and to get my fingers in the correct place!
Wow,this is one of my fave Beatle songs ! Thanks for your great teaching method/ visuals, you just made my day & I shall be watching all your other vids ! Cheers from England.
I think you’ve added something nice to this beautiful piece of music. I didn’t think that was possible. Thank you for a great performance and a great guitar lesson.
Wow best rendition ever very well played. I play it a bit different but you showed me a few things that I can change or ad to my playing if this master piece my favorite Beatles song ever ty
Thanks Mike for showing the detune on the 6th string, I always played it his way and no one doe's this makes a better sound, Your very good Thanks for sharing. Bruce Northjetty Studios in Eureka Ca.
Your acoustic guitar sounded awesome. The ringing tones is perfect for this beautiful song. What I hear is an instrumental version but not quite how the song was sung and played. I play this song without Capo on the standard E major chord. My brother does the melodic riff on the upper frets and we both play in unison with me playing the E riff using open strings.
This arrangement is very pretty and John would approve. I always wondered how Lennon was able to make every phrase and bar so pleasing to the ear. This and Day Tripper are examples of how uncanny he was at writing tasty riffs.
Mike,I like your version of this song because it doesn't force me to use my little finger to play lead notes. And finally,a professional guitar player who likes low action on an acoustic guitar!
Hi Mike. Relatively new to your channel. I love your passion for anything Beatles. I took up guitar a year ago as a mature student and I am loving the stuff you have put out, i am green with envy with how you play. Great work, love this song.
Thanks for the kudos Dave. And no need to be green. I've been playing for 57 years so I should be ok at it by now. lol Just take it slow and most importantly - have fun doin't it. Guitar playing is not a competition sport!
I’m not sure what it is Mike but I can say this I recently found your channel and yes it will take me quite some time to get caught up on your Vids but I digress. You just have this way about you that draws me to your videos you’re so mellow and all your tunes are down to perfection in my eyes there’s nobody else I would rather start my day off learning from thank you for what you do I apologize about the lack of punctuation again thank you
Mike, have you ever tried to play it on DADGBD tuning with Capo on 2nd fret? It becomes a richer and more rounded sound. I used to play it on standard tuning capo on 2nd fret, but no more. Btw, you can also play YOUR LOVE IS FOREVER by Harrison, same DADGBD tuning but without the Capo. Thanks for your videos!.
hello mike iam from brazil, for me you are the best teacher, its wonderful to see you playng, sorry for my english , i dont speak very well but iam trying. thaks,
Hi mike great vid I play it the same way with dropped E to the D I think John did the same on dear prudence its another great song to play I was wondering if you could do a vid on that song I'm a BEATLE nut and played in cover bands live at the cavern club for the BEATLE convention keep up the good work great vids thanks Ian
rager1969 - Fret buzzing never bothered me. I like low action and I think the buzz gives a guitar its own character. Sort of like a natural fuzz box for acoustic guitar! And when you know what notes buzz - you can use it for effect.
Nice one Mike! Get a Kyser capo, put it on from the bottom and don’t fret the fat E string with it. Do what you do here except leave the E string tuned as E. Play all the strings and you get a nice E drone all through the song.
Mike I love the way you break down the Beatles songs you dont miss a note and thats a make or break deal with us olde ones whos brains are hard wired with their music and expect to hear every note as its etched into our minds. And really what sets you apart for me is that you are also hard wired to their music ! I love it when you express that emotion just like we feel about their music ! No one showing how to videos of the Beatles on youtube expresses their enthusiasm their almost dead pan. But I mean your face just says " Aint this music so cool !! " I often wonder is it just me? Am I just biased about the music I grew up with Particularly that of the Beatkes ? Because I just feel that what they wrote was the gold stanard. But on iTunes I notice something perplexing . On certain albums you will note what songs are the most popular. And Iam assuming it must be indicative of the much younger Beatle fans by what I see. because they will chose a song that I dont care for. ( and believe me thats very rare usually its a song that wasnt on the US version of the album. And this will kind of blows me away ! and I think: " But hey! what about this one? You mean you like "'that'one " ten times more than the one I would of bet the farm on youd like ! So its that sort of thing that begins to make me doubt my own ears ability to know what really is good music. So then are we old guys and and the young ones really on the same page ? Do we extract something different from the music than the newer fans? And are we older fans just loving the memory ? Some people might say about me that "I think far too much about what dont really matter" but it does matter I sense a shift in what appeals to many, a moving away from melodies and harmonies and find fewer people to get together with and spend time listening to this kind of music. Anyway about the song "Norwegian Wood" its one of my favorite Beatle recordings with acustic guitar. There are certain places in a song where they will strum a chord that just sounds so .. and I dont know if Iam using the right vocabulary here But it sounds so full, fat, dynamic,, or maybe its majestic reverent and dignified ! They sure knew how to record a acustic guitar to its fullest. This sound Iam referring to of a powerful strum of a chord can be is herd in the song "Things we said today" So when recording this was it John who played the part you covered if so what was George playing ? Or visa versa , was it one of those duet things where two guitars complement each other? Like I have seen videos of you and a very close friend of yours do on a Beatle number. Oh man watching you do that looks like so much fun playing Beatle songs together especially when your that good ! Thank you Mike for the way you end your videos I really like it when you say "Thanks for hanging out with you " its such a cool thought and thats how you make us feel because your such a down to earth cool guy. I feel like lam back in high school again with my friends out in the garage trying to figure out them chords !
Cleve Hubbs - Thanks for the kudos - I appreciate it! re: your comments - Music is subjective - what's one person's favorite song may be another person's least favorite. There's no right or wrong on that. I don't think it has much to do with the age of those that may be downloading a particular song. Music is personal. What tugs at ones heartstrings is again - subjective. The fullness of the acoustic guitars on the songs you noted are due to double tracking and/or George and John playing together.
Mike, Thanks for taking the time and passion to create this lesson. I've learned some great Beatles songs from you! Any thoughts on maybe creating a couple lessons of other bands' songs? Thanks for sharing your musical talents with us! Doug
Ah yes, the musical genius of John Lennon! Great tune & you play it well. Funny but I always thought that he used a 12 string to play that guitar part.
Nice stuff Mike. I do this song in DADGAD and it really seems to lend itself to that tuning. I wasm't playing the F#m but I will try to incorporate it. You are lots of fun to learn from. Thanks.
It's a Charis #50. Built by Bill Wise in Bay City, MI. It was made for Phil Keaggy. He did a few recordings with it and then gifted it to me about 14 years ago.
Another great video Mike. Norwegian Wood is right up there with the best of the Beatles songs. That's a very nice acoustic guitar you are playing here - could you tell me what the brand and model are please?
Thanks! It's a Charis. Made by Bill Wise in Bay City, MI. This one is #50 and was made especially for Phil Keaggy. Phil used it on a few recordings and then gifted it to me.
Thanks for your very personalized approach in your videos, I’ve been playing for years, but never really had lessons till about 10 years ago, so many great Beatles songs!
Putting the Beatles' genius aside for a moment, I'm guessing you're a master car mechanic. In your opinion, what's the best car brand in the world? Thanks.
Smith Js - thanks and FYI - I'm not a fan (at all) of the Like/Dislike function. It's far too black & white. If somebody has something to say I prefer they write it.
Outstanding. I'm 71, self-taught these last three years and picked it up in less than an hour.
Bless the Beatles for all the wonderful Music they gave us . And Thank You Sir for showing us how to play this awesome Beatle's Classic .
It was so very kind of you to sit, work this out yourself and then teach it to us. Thank you so much.

Mike, you are truly an amazing guitar player, INTELLIGENCE UP CLOSE. JERSEY BOB.
Marvellous. You do the world a great service with these videos, Mike - I've never played a guitar in my life, but I find them fascinating.
Great video, Mike. I just love this song. What an iconic intro. And that walk down is absolutely Michelle.
Most tutors bore me to death but you have a get way to keep,my attention. Thanks again
Love the way you make it seem so easy. Thanks Mike, you have been given a great gift in your playing and teaching.
Wow! What a superb lesson. It has to be one of my favourite Beatles tunes. Thanks for breaking it down.
Mike, love your work! This is a brilliant and thoughtful rendition. You really complement the spirit of the original. Great insights, and thank you so for generously sharing. Play on, brother!!!

Thanks, Mike ! Beautiful and Fun to Play~♡!
Love Norwegian Wood. Thanks for sharing. Let's see if I can get any where close to playing it as good as you!!
Crying shame the world lost this man at age 40. I can only "imagine" the beautiful melodies he would have created in the 80's and 90's.
such a beautiful song beautifully rendered by MP
Fantastic Mike I just sing along to this as well. Like I did with ticket to ride as well.
Wow,this is one of my fave Beatle songs ! Thanks for your great teaching method/ visuals, you just made my day & I shall be watching all your other vids ! Cheers from England.
This is one I've definitely got to learn. Appreciate the Beatles licks
Glad to help!
Luv your insights and enthusiasm Mike you never disappoint

Great vid's. The jazz part reminded me of Michelle
Great lesson mike
Awesome song. Great job.
Always one of my favorites to play out in my solo years clubs and coffee shops
That's wonderful Mike. You've just tripled my chord selection for this beautiful (folk, I consider) song. Thank you.
You’ve got a new subscriber - this one comes from Brazil. Your videos are awesome. Keep it up, mate!

I know Mike..your enthusiasm for guitar is inspiring. Keep up the great work buddy.
Thanks for the demo Mike.
It's so much easier to leave out the high E! That was always an issue for me in this particular run. And it's not really necessary. Great video. Thx!

Holy Crap Dude!!! Thats an Olsen you are playing!!!! The holy Grail of guitars!
The buzzing frets actually give it a bit of a sitar sounds, which is helpful for this song.
