Really great ikea.. U r doing a wonderful work what indian government couldn't do... I will purchase all my house hold items from ikea only... Thanks for bringing employment to our village society and a quality work environment.
This video gives us an insight into what goes behind the scene in making hand made rugs or Darisin India. IKEA took on itself the initiative to improve the lives and working conditions of hand-made rug weavers in India. From taking care of the safety precautions to following environmental safety measure, everything is being taken care of under one roof. The training centre for the same is now nurturing future weavers and providing them job security for the future.
IKEA has revolutionized the lives of small weavers by offering them a better working environment, stable and sizable income. Indian handmade rugs are famous for their uniqueness, but due to lack of infrastructure and proper financial support, these weavers are not able to produce rugs of same quality every time. IKEA has taken a huge step in this sector by consolidating weavers where they will get decent working condition with better machinery, better health conditions. The weavers are paid stable and sizable income so they can plan for their future. Weaving has now become a new profession with the demand of new weavers increasing. New machinery and better infrastructure have made life a lot easier for the weavers.
Handmade Durry Rugs is a masterpiece that marries tradition with contemporary living. Woven with care, it brings the essence of handloom weaving into your home. Made from 100% PET material, rug is a celebration of sustainability, transforming recycled materials into a functional work of art.
Let's talk with me Haider Hameed he is pioneer in hand made woillen new rugs and carpets if you want to buy or need any information so please feel free to talk with him
The idea that IKEA is responsible for creating the weaving industry in India is ridiculous. India has a long established history of incredible weaving mills, traditional knowledge and weaving art forms, etc. It's great that IKEA is providing a safe and respectful working environment, but the language at the beginning of this video makes it sound like they are the first doing this in India which is just wrong and very Euro-centric. There are massive weaving mills all across India and there are Indian nonprofits all across India doing the same thing and have been for along time.
Their point is that this is an establishment with a system of regular pay. The pupose is to create like they said a work culture of permanent jobs, regular income, effective and absolute working hours. Often workers in this industry are not paid well, work on basis of payment per product, or hourly wages which is more tedious and pays less.
Does that look like a professional facility to you ? i am not talking about the workers , they're obviously experts , but how much do you pay them , how many carpets do they produce and what is the end price of these products when you buy them at ikea ? just saying something is not the same as an evidence .

Given how cheap the rugs are, i don't believe the workers are paid as much as they should be.
Especially nice that there's a translation for the weavers... No idea what they're saying lmaoo
Their minimum fair wages is actually very low, it's mostly 50-100rs which is 1/2 to 1 dollar.
