@@MTechGuy Deeply appreciate your response! As you can see im now a proud owner of a bmw :) and jesus the fuel on these things are not cheap! i can spend $50 on a daily drive then have to spend more again
Mine has the electric power steering but still an interesting, relaxing vid to watch. I also much prefer the 'old school' key going into the steering column.
Cheers mrstevebull01, this is the first BMW I’ve had with the push button start- don’t like it! It’s on the wrong side if the column too. My E60 M5 was the only year of that model that came with a proper key
Very clear video, thanks for that. I noticed when you got to full lock on either direction there was a slight groaning/grinding noise. Is this just a characteristic of the steering rack or power steering pump? My N52 does the same but it’s definitely louder than yours. I’m hoping a fluid flush will help quieten it down. Failing that, maybe it’s time for a power steering pump change.
Great video - thanks for sharing! Have you already replaced your flywheel? After 233.000 Km I feel a heavy vibration when slowly clutching in gear one with a cold motor.
Thanks for checking out the video Bram. My 130i has done 130,000 km’s so I assume it still has the original (I’ve only owned the car for about 8 months) If yours still has the original flywheel I expect it’ll be getting close to requiring replacement
The reason for the power steering leaking from the reservoir isn’t the cap o-ring. It’s the build up in pressure from the filter being blocked so the reservoir needs to be replaced👍🏻
It’s not a filter, it’s a strainer. In 25 years I’ve never come across a blocked one. The cap is vented to atmosphere anyhow. It’s 100% the cap O-ring, they become hard and compressed and leak. Fitting a new O-ring fixed the leak while the original strainer remains
Hi pal , your reservoir cap says “CHF 11S only” my cap says “ATF OIL ONLY” … and obviously they are both different oils… so should I go for the any ATF steering fluid or specific brand? Please reply thanks
I think instead of doing this all at one time with the starting, idling, and stopping the engine, I would just do it each morning before I intend to go somewhere for a few days.
great video! btw in my 2006 116i power steering oil cap says “ATF ONLY”. i did a small research and from what I understood in my case I should use ATF Dextron 3 Oil (red one), not green CHF oil that you’re using in this video
okay. I watched your another video about changing PS fluid in your M5. I am a bit confused. I do not have that green sticker and I am not sure if it was like that or if it is just missing. However, I am pretty sure that the color of my current oil is dark red. So i guess i should go for Dextron 3 anyway
In a 2006 it should be CHF-11S, but may have been changed out for Dextron III previously in its life? I would suck out what’s in the reservoirs and put it into a clear container and shine a light behind it to see what colour it is- Dark green- fill it with CFH-11S, dark red- fill it with Dex III 👍
that is one clean engine bay!
👍
@@MTechGuy btw where did you get your steering fluid from? cant seem to find that locally

The little 130i is my economic daily driver, you want to try a V10 M5, 5k/L!

Full lock it’s normal to have some noise
My actually Problem,... 🧐 thank for your video 😍

That’s another way for sure 👍
Merci beaucoup, très intéressant !!!! Good Video Thanks You

My steering hums when I only turn right while low speed or stationary reckon it could be just fluid or the pump ?
I would start by checking the fluid level, if it looks dirty/burnt- change the fluid and go from there
@@MTechGuy 👍🏻 I’ll give that a go cheers mate

Thank you Sir!
No worries, thanks for watching!
But when you keep pouring new fluid, how do you pump out only the old fluid? It will mix together and you will pump out even the new fluid 😃😃😃
Yes! 👍 Dilution is the solution
My 2009 116i steering is really stiff are bmws like this or is there something going on?
BMW’s steering is normally weighted heavier than most cars
My 116 was layer up for 14 months without starting. It was started last week and I took it for a drive, it feels like I’m turning a tank
