I am American. I have a home in a small mountain town in Sicilia. I speak a little Italian and my wife non. The people are so friendly and except us for who we are. My Italian family there are wonderful and have no problem with us for the language barrier. We get together whenever we are in Sicilia.

personal experience: Abruzzo is our residence. Had no problem with codice fiscale. Had no problem buying an apartment. Had no problem opening a bank account. For some reason we get normal exchange rate from our Bank? Took 3 months to get "permesso sigiorno" but we had a receipt to use until we received the actual card. We have a receipt for "tessara sanitaria health card" that we use until actual card arrives. Took about 4 months to remodel our apartment.....that's an experience. Want advice......if you are just moving here, use an interpreter to get things rolling....you will know when you do not need an interpretor anymore, but they save you light years when you first start. the expense is more than all the time you will waste trying to figure things out for yourself. I could write a book on this stuff, but for some reason, things go pretty smooth for us in "Abruzzo".......
The description in the video is very exaggerated and you confirm it with your bureaucratic experience in Italy and you are not the only one to say it, on UA-cam there are many videos of foreigners who take up residence in Italy and have not had any major negative surprises with the bureaucracy, on the contrary they were pleasantly surprised in a positive way.
A volte resto perplesso. Sono di Napoli e non ho avuto il minimo problema con la tessera sanitaria. Io credo che spesso voi espatriati, non capiate come funziona. Anni per la tessara sanitaria? Giorni non anni! Se poi chiedi una tessera provvisoria, la otterrai a vista. Secondi non giorni! Un'altra cosa che credo sia poco chiara agli stranieri (ma questo è comprensibile) è come gli italiani riescano a vivere meglio (anche molto meglio) di come parrebbero indicare i dati grezzi. Per esempio, non è facile intendere come fanno a non avere debiti (con banche, carte di credito, etc.) e ad abitare quasi tutti (il novanta per cento) in case di loro proprietà. Ma questa è un'altra storia!
non so a voi ma a me la tessera sanitaria che fa anche da codice fiscale arriva a casa mesi prima della scadenza di quella vecchia ma non so se dipende dalla regione

Anche in tal caso, se segnali lo smarrimento alla ASL ti arriva comunque in pochissimo (nel frattempo ti danno a vista, quella provvisoria); le leggende metropolitane sono tante ma siamo noi italiani a diffonderle! Semmai non so, se per gli stranieri è diverso, ma dubito.

che in Italia ci sia burocrazia - e tanta - è verissimo, ma che ci sia bisogno di "avere conoscenze" per andare da un medico o da un dentista è assurdo. Ed anche per i documenti, non è vero che si deve aspettare molto. Qualche mese fa ho rinnovato la Carta d'Identità che stava scadendo: ho prenotato online un appuntamento con l'ufficio competente del comune e dopo 15 giorni sono andato e ho avuto la CIE, Carta d'Identità Elettronica. Tutto molto semplice.

Iam from Brazil. The bureaucracy in Italy is unique. I have been trying to get my antenatos documents ( grand father) in order to start my citizenship procedure. Its been slow, italians are confused, dont seem to help in the Comunes. And the fees have skyrocketed recently.

I acquired Italian citizenship through my grandfather 11 years ago..They recently changed the requirements and if I were to apply today, I would have been disqualified. Fortunately I'm grandfathered ( no pun intended) . In a nutshell, your ancestor who was born here,who you are applying through, can no longer be a minor

Living costs are comparable or even exactly the same as for Poland,whereas the real average salary in Poland is lower (most Poles earn around 1200 euro gross) but....finding a job in PL is easy (not decent job though!!!). So if You are lacking a job in Italy and You don't mind short summers and are used to being overworked and underpaid, move to Poland. You will have the same expenses, a lower income, but at least...You will have a job. People are also mostly friendly, the country is safe (except for being close to Russia) and the infrastructure and health system is comparable to Italy.
Still better than what she suggested: the uk. The uk is the worst deal anyone could ever have nowadays, expensive, no jobs, no visas, rampant racism, bad services and shitty weather

Hello thank you for your video. I would be very interested to hear your "Italiano". I am very curious for more than one reason. First I study italian . Second your english is perfect but "con grano di sale" your pronounciation is hearably russian/ukrainian etc. east slavic( I found your explanation in answers below later- you come from russia). That is not a thing for me. But according to the only word you have said in italian in this video, I bet, your italian pronounciation is far better than english one. And that's what I crave to know ;0). I come from slavic nation as well. Particularly from Czech republic (west slavic) and therefore my curiosity is so high. I think italian is easier to pronounce for slavic people.

All true ,But insane burocracy ,I call it nighmare burocracy ,but I notice in the small city or villages ,eexpecially in the north or centre Italy it's not so bad ,difficult but not impossible ,the good thing now it's that you have always 2 option, the easy way,(pay sameone), or the hard way ,try to do it yourself.
You say "the easy way (pay someone)". If you mean a professional expert, you are right. If you mean "bribe a corrupt person" you are acting against the law and vulnerable to unpleasant surprises.
In Italy alone: FRESH FRESH FRESH...they either grow it themselves or make it themselves,...from the superb quality food to the artisans and their crafts and wares...handmade...homemade, homegrown...QUAITY FLAVOR, QUALITY LIFE, QUALITY INGREDIENTS and not FROZEN from a package or sitting on a supermarket grocery shelf getting watered down and wilted and brown...EUROPE; FAR MUCH BETTER ALL AROUND...live on the AMALFI COAST or in Southern France for a while and one will know and be able to compare. USA doesn't compare to Europe in just about everything. USA does have just scenery...but stunning scenery interwoven with REAL CULTURE, REAL HISTORY and a pride unlike what I see in America, is what Europe is about. USA IS 'QUANITY' first...for example in USA: 5 pies for $15.00...WOW A REAL BARGAIN!: An American will buy them up and not even read all the junk and preservatives in the pies. A cultured Italian, French, German etc not only will know the difference, but more than likely stay away from them or will spend more $$ to buy a more quality pie, or make it themselves with quality ingredients. I live in Northern Italy... my experience has been terrible. Italy feels borderline third world. The people are mostly rude and attempt to scam you to no end. I would much rather be back in East Asia or USA.

I live in Northern Italy... my experience has been terrible. Italy feels borderline third world. The people are mostly rude and attempt to scam you to no end. I would much rather be back in East Asia or USA.
