UPDATE: I made a video on the best CHEAP fishing combo money can buy. Check it on my channel or it is also linked at the end of this video! Thanks for watching -Tightlines
*Overall **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I feel the Shadowfire 360 offers excellent value for those who are new to tenkara and don't want to break the bank on their first rod purchase.*
I got a $75 dollar lews Jason Christie reel at Walmart for $30. One of the best reels I own right now. It’s held up for 2 years and still feels brand new
I always go straight to the fishing department. I do not want to watch my wife shop for garments. She can call me when she is done. :) I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. Living in California now and loving the big water, but I do miss the walleye fishing days on my boat at the dam. I Just bought a new Diawa BG 5000 saltwater reel online for about $95....I would recommend the BG line of reels for anyone on a budget.
I have an abu Garcia promax reel ($80) and a Lew’s carbon fire rod ($80) and it has been amazing. Reel casts super smooth, rod is lightweight and has great sensitivity. Ive used it for around 6 months and I’ve had no problems whatsoever. It’s fairly cheap for a caster, and it performance is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone as a first caster rod and reel.
This has been my first year fishing in Ohio. It’s been tough since I haven’t fished in a number of years. I moved up here three years ago. Im from Florida so I’m not used fishing the seasons and stuff, but I think I’m finally getting the hang of it 😂
I'm big on sales, steals, discounts, etc. Black friday on tacklewharehouse is a great deal. It's literally 20% percent off of damn near everything. I plan on saving more money specifically for that this year. I bought a couple duckett ghost rods for my dad for christmas, for $80 each rather than $100. Those savings really add up quick. It's also a good time to stock up on soft plastics. Say you know you're going to probably go through "x amount" off craws, flukes, or senkos in the spring or summer, so you spent $80 on black friday and get $100 worth of product. It's a smart investment.
Great tips! I put in my notice at my job, and I'm going to apply at Dick's today. I'll probably have to take about a 500% pay cut, but that 25% off will be sweeeet! Wish me luck!
I get the Clarence only and find them because everyone is at different times. Sometimes once a monthly Addis sale i got a Lew's Xfinity combo for $12 each combo I got them all 😅 best price point ABU Garcia Max STX for $30 each if is nice and cheep I swagged it up.🤫😆 Nice great video 👊🏼 respect
Worked in retail for 5 years, pretty sure he not following some type of rule. We had to wait 1 week before purchasing liquidation items and if you hid merchandise to buy it yourself .... good luck .
Online sales (holiday) and price matching. Avoiding tax and shipping helps. Put Google search to use. I rarely pay full retail for something unless I am in a pinch and want/need it right that second.
Bass pro shops have me 50% off on all Bass pro brand stuff , so like a 200 dollar carbonlite Combo was only 100. And then I got 15% off non bass pro owned brands but that excludes reels and boats lol. But like I got an Avid X for 148 dollars during a sale. I paid 18 bucks for 20 dollar Megabass crankbaits etc I spend every night laying in bed filling my tacklewarehouse, tacklejunkies and tackledirect Carts Lol I rarely buy but I catch clearance sales! Like Quantum Icon PT reels on sale right now for 79.99 on TW
I got that halo rod for $32 and thought I was getting a steal lol. It’s true what you said about always be on the look out for bargains at random stores.
you rip people off, you get ripped off. theres always a bigger fish in the sea. you start giving gifts to people who need it but cant afford. watch how fast it comes back double and triple. mark my words.
Dicks sporting goods is a gold mine. My best find was veritas rods for 35 bucks each. I bought four of them, which is all they had. I've got gloomis rods for 100 too
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
TightLineTV hey I'm always looking for buddies to fish with (I have none) and I'm going to start an outdoors channel soon. Tryna hit up Rocky River for Steelhead when it clears up?
TightLineTV hey man great video, i have gotten into bass fishing and have a medium/light action spinning rod i am looking for a baitcasting combo under $50 any sugestions?
Good Ol Boy #76 ahh...I'm in South Mississippi. Was going to say we could go hit up some places I know we could get you a good NEW setup for a reasonable price. I use to live in West memphis Arkansas but moved recently. If you ever make it down this way, message me and we will get you something new. I'm a 29yo disabled vet and all I do is fish and hunt.
I am disabled also but not a vet. I could never get in the military. I also fish a lot but cant hunt because to much walking and shooting a high power gun might mess up my spine even more. But thanks for the offer that means a lot.
I have about $300. My parents suck and they won’t let me buy anything bc I have a rod and reel combo already. I’m trying to get the abu black max combo. Anyone have any tips to convince them
I don't know if you have tried Wish app,it's a free app shopping store online not high end stuff mostly stuff from China but extremely cheap prices all kinds of fishing and everything else. ...i love it but i admit they are not abu Garcia but check it out!
Unless you are a pro tournament fisherman, you DON'T need expensive fishing gear. I've been fishing since I was 12 yrs old and bought most all my own stuff. You can catch plenty of fish on cheap rods and reels. Most any of my rods never cost over 40 bucks. They all cast lures. Just enjoy being out and able to fish. My best advice is to buy quality mono line and learn how to tie good knots. Change your line out every other year. You can buy several spools of Trilene or Stren for the price of one spool of super braid. Learn to fish well with inexpensive gear and you will always have that skill. If you depend on having 160 dollar rods and 30 dollar line. You will be disappointed when they dont produce 100%.
James Cooper I agree 100% We have a 2 acre pond at work behind the breakroom. I agreed to show the new guy the best spot before work one day. I had a zebco kiddie rod that I kept in my truck with an old zebco 33. I've had it forever and is perfect for areas with cramped casting. He made fun of my rod then bragged about his 100 rod and his 150 reel with the flipping switch. We fished 30 min and I had 8 bass and he had 1 missed hookset. He told me he would never make fun of my rig again. I've had more fish in that rig than all my others combined including some big Drum and 5lb bass.
man, great video! Check out your sub number, you're right where AP Bassin was when he blew up. Well done, we are taking notes ;) hope to join you some day!
Let me just say I hope you don’t still work for DSG or F&S. If you do, some of that is stuff you are not supposed to share. Other than that, good info as a whole
Dicks doesn’t carry any good rods though 😔the typical store doesn’t carry G. Loomis Rods and high end Shimano reels. And everyone around me fishes shitty st. Croix. Absolutely sucks
First things first, Dick's Sporting Goods over price their stuff anyway. They are higher than Academy. Had you got 25% off working for Academy now we're talkin. Just saying man just saying
UPDATE: I made a video on the best CHEAP fishing combo money can buy. Check it on my channel or it is also linked at the end of this video! Thanks for watching -Tightlines
Are u in northeast Ohio?
*Overall **enjoyable.fishing** recommend I feel the Shadowfire 360 offers excellent value for those who are new to tenkara and don't want to break the bank on their first rod purchase.*
Your solution to getting good fishing gear is get a job, put in the effort to shop, and get involved with your community. That's great advice.
Hope your ready bud, this channel is popping up in my recommendations. You're about to blow up.
pmang6 that comment made my day haha. Thanks dude!!!

I got a $75 dollar lews Jason Christie reel at Walmart for $30. One of the best reels I own right now. It’s held up for 2 years and still feels brand new
Great stuff man, I would also add GO TO FISHING EXPOS!!! Always find great deals there, most of the time tax free
I always go straight to the fishing department. I do not want to watch my wife shop for garments. She can call me when she is done. :) I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. NPC12146 bro, your logic is fucked
Yo your getting somewhere in your UA-cam career you keep popping up in my recommendations

Hell yea man I like shimano and dobyns exclusively and we know how pricy that can get but I buy most of my stuff used for great prices!
leo pena Bro, that's all I use. May favorite set up of mine is my Dobyns SA703C with my Curado K. What's your favorite rig?
Gotta love that clearance sale I was getting the tech spec field and stream pools for 11 bucks each they were 125
Jonathan Jacobs $125? They have always been $50 at my local field and stream.
ShopWatersedgeFishing.com
Good for you son keep up the good work, its great to help others to get into fishing, great advice.
BOOMER BAXTER thanks!
Reasonable tips. The first is not so much but the other 2 were. I would also suggest thrift stores and Walmart.
Nice to know your keeping the good stuff in the back
Worked in retail for 5 years, pretty sure he not following some type of rule. We had to wait 1 week before purchasing liquidation items and if you hid merchandise to buy it yourself .... good luck .
I also worked at Dicks, got 2 st croix rods for $17. they had been sitting on the shelf for days. not breaking any rules.
Different retail chains have different polices smart one. I also worked at dicks and no rules were broken when I put stuff in the back neither.
Online sales (holiday) and price matching. Avoiding tax and shipping helps. Put Google search to use. I rarely pay full retail for something unless I am in a pinch and want/need it right that second.
Great advice. Will get my start rod now and wait for sales at end of season.
I grabbed a Abu Veritas rod for $30 at Dicks marked down from $120! I'll be back in the fall for more now haha great video
Lots of useful information here. Thanks for sharing.
How to get expensive gear. His answer “get a job” lol
Eeehhh buddy, that Abu Garcia setup you got is amazing and for the price!!! Pheew....fire!
I agree with everything you said! I make good money but I still like a great deal! I’ve found some good deals before just like your talking about!
I paid 18 bucks for 20 dollar Megabass crankbaits etc

I got me an abu Garcia for $23 at Walmart. It’s my favorite rod so far.

Kind of wish I capitalized on the discount part when I worked at academy ours was only 10% but it goes along way
cheap is not always the best. FREE IS THE BEST.
you rip people off, you get ripped off. theres always a bigger fish in the sea. you start giving gifts to people who need it but cant afford. watch how fast it comes back double and triple. mark my words.
Thanks for the tips!! Maybe post in a video or two if you know of any specials coming up?

Great ideas. I use eBay too for some deals
Number 1 tip, wait for companies to sell stuff leaving stock.
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. Second job at bass pro solely for a discount, sounds like a plan :)
You have earned a sub
I wish the saltwater gear is cheap one VSX 250 and Lamiglass GSB 11ft custom is like $2000.00
Should be common sense, but yes people insist on paying the retail price.
Now, I just can`t find these kinds of deals for high end reels and rods.
I have about $300. My parents suck and they won’t let me buy anything bc I have a rod and reel combo already. I’m trying to get the abu black max combo. Anyone have any tips to convince them
Great job, bud.
I don't know if you have tried Wish app,it's a free app shopping store online not high end stuff mostly stuff from China but extremely cheap prices all kinds of fishing and everything else. ...i love it but i admit they are not abu Garcia but check it out!
It doesn't work like this in Australia
Good tips

You forgot probably the most valuable tip. Garage sales and yard sales. Especially in 55 plus communities.

Just go on wish and like there are some good and smooth reels and quality rods for like under 30 dollars
Zygardious Zygarde some of those reels are just rebranded abu's. I saw a video of a guy who said his cheap Chinese real had parts that fit his abu's.
