This was one of the finest written comedies ever in this side of the pond. It parodies EVERBODY… the clip you showed there is so multi layered when you actually look at it , the accidental racism , the full blown hidden racism and the guy willing to be led by the church in terms of racism, blended together it’s so witty and so well done and actually leaves you asking questions of yourself in terms of casual or latent racism. It was of it’s time (mid 90’s) but still stacks up well today . Another clip to look out for is the priests trying to escape from the lingerie section of a department store, absolutely classic.
“Ladies and gentlemen please bring your purchases to the checkout as the store is about to close…come on hurry up now” “NOT THAT WAY FOR FECK SAKE THE OTHER WAY, MOVE!”
Father Ted is just a gift from the comedy gods. An absolute treasure. "Small and Far Away" is another clip to check out, but you should watch the whole damn thing.
@@stofferrussell I think that's also the one with Richard Wilson from 'One Foot In The Grave' (playing himself). Graham Norton's character is annoying as hell. 😂
The thing is, there is a second bit to this story that most people is missing. There is a black mark on the windows (at about 1:35) that comes in to play later in the episode. Just look for (Father Ted The Accidental Facist | Father Ted).
The Hitler moustache. I'd forgotten about that. Must get out my CDs soon and have another Father Ted Fest day. Been a while. But never a day wasted. Best ever sitcom. ❤❤❤
It was essentially an anti racism clip from a comedy show ...the point was supposed to be that many "ordinary people" could upset people with things that they didn't consider to be racist....after impersonating the chinaman he spent the rest of the show proving he wasn't racist and telling others not to be racist....but Father ted is very funny. It is set on an island off the coast of ireland with a very small population.
Father Ted is one of the best comedies of the 90s. Each episode of the 3 seasons is hilarious. That particular episode is memorable for a little piece of dirt on the window. Would love to see your reaction to that. Superb writing
You need to watch Father Ted. At least this episode so you understand, Ted is the only sane person in the village.... there is no "China Town". There's only about 200 in the whole village. (Which is why having one is funny.) If you've never seen 90's British sitcoms, there are a ton! "Are You Being Served?", "Keeping Up Appearances", "Red Dwarf", "The Victor of Dibley", "One Foot In The Grave", "The IT Crowd".....

I remember watching Father Ted when it first aired and it was amazingly funny, Irish (or British) humour to its fullest. Father Ted (Dermot Morgan) died unfortunately in real life and was a really funny guy on screen. I did hear when I first watched it decades ago that even proper Catholic priests watched it, as it was stunningly close to being an actual Catholic priest; I still don't know how close to the truth that is or still is but I still find it adds to the show. Worth watching the programme even on your own without UA-cam.
