I believe Autotune serves two functions. One is for those that just want to have a little fun making their voices sound funny. The other is for those that know how to read music and keys. It will help them when their vocals are tired and starting to lose pitch. Other than that I would agree that it is not a feature that is a must have. Did you purchase one or plan to?
Overall you did a pretty good job. Your autotune explanation will confuse people who don't already understand how it works. If you're not singing in a specific key for the entire song set your'e doing in a live show, or karaoke with many different songs and ranges of singers, or if you simply don't know the key...use the "Chromatic" setting on the autotune. Also, your first setting on a mixer should always be Main-out volume fader set to "Unity" or Zero db. Then you set gain, then channel faders (volume knobs). Plus, there was a point in the video where you were trying to make Channel 1 clip by increasing the volume and gain...you were defeating the clip mostly by having the single knob compression set at 10 o'clock (which is a great setting for powerful singers). Compression is most often used to reduce signal when a vocalist or an instrument gets too loud preventing clipping and distortion. With typical single knob compression, a soft or whispery singer might need the knob set at 1-2 o'clock The compression ratio in this mixer is 4:1. Like most single knob compressors, as you turn the knob clockwise, there are many variables being adjusted... Attack is increased, Threshold drops like crazy starting at the 12 o'clock position, and make-up gain is increased to raise the softer signal levels of a quiet singer.
1. 99% of our customers are pro karaoke host and we chose not to explain the autotune any further as not to confuse them and they understand the chromatic as we personally go over that. You are 100% correct regarding that. 2. You are also correct for the most part concerning the "Unity". I always set it there when it works for the situation, yet there are going to be times when having the mains set just a tad lower actually helps with the overall function of the system related directly to the usage of it. 3. Your thoughts on the compression are also correct and the compression believe it or not was not actually hindering the testing phase to help people understand their limitations. I honestly do not like the compression set high either. & speaking of the whisper singer. God help us all with those people!

Thanks for posting the video. I'm curious about the external sound card. I am having trouble going straight from the mixer's USB B to the computer's USB and getting good mic volume in my DAW. Volume is so soft unless I turn the mic gain and level all the way up. Do you use the sound card for line into the computer? What purpose does it serve when this mixer has USB built in? Thanks!
+Dollar Element (Rich) The microphones should have nothing to do with whether or not you use an external sound card. The external card does assist in slightly better sound. Yet at this point, we are not using any future mixers with the sound card because we have spent time testing the mixer itself and feel it delivers better sound than the other mixers that just use the headphone jack on the laptop. If you are following the video and adjusting your mixer and the mics still sound too soft, then it is a matter of having someone look at your overall system to figure out why that is happening. +Rich K (&Iris) This is where recording sound is different than FoH ( Front of House) sound. Front of house is the combination of your gain and your fader/volume per channel and then all of that goes into the master mix. You then, of course, control that volume with your master. Recording volume is different. It's per channel based only on the channel's main fader/volume controller and should have little at all to do with your gain as your gain is a pre-fader signal boost for FoH only. It doesn't (to my experience or knowledge) have anything to do with recording. I'ved used a PV10 for a long time and I also use a Presonuse 16.4.2 Studiolive mixer. Gain does, however, influence the volume per channel of your aux sends for monitors. So aux sends are actually based on channel gain + aux send level > per channel. I've been running sound for about 10 years for DJ, Karaoke, and live bands and knowing what everything means and exactly how different knobs impact different settings. One thing to note in this video is that he turns the gains to a specific degree then turns EACH of the EQ knobs down the exact same degree. This is like enlarging a picture only to shrink it again but poorly so since EQ'ing by knobs on a 3 knob eq leaves a curved shelf so you're actually getting a poorer tone than you should that's not true to vox. You're gain should be based on where you're playing. That's what you sound check for. You listen for hums and peaks so you can take the gain down a bit or, if absolutely necessary, adjust the EQ on a main signal to remove that harsh frequency resonance that sometimes happens in buildings. But never turn your gain to a specific position for all mics. Each mic is very different. My Audix OM5 is diff than my Shure Beta58 or my Vocopros. Each of them have different frequency responses too meaning my HPF and my EQ adjustments per singer are different. So, adjust your gain to get maximum sound quality before feedback with your volume at 0. This gives you wiggle room on your volume to go up and down with loud and quiet singers and maximum room to adjust your EQ per singer and song as necessary. You always want the cleanest sound with the most flexibility and the truest sound to your singer's original vocals.
Why did Peavy make them flat as the older 14 models were a much better shape for live gigging. Also the lcd displays are too small. Lastly, why are the effects not shown on the model casing like before?
isnt there a usb cable in the back of the mixer much like you would find on a printer? I watched PV disect this thing and the way they talked you could send music to the board OR to the computer from it.. Is this true?
When you are watching the video, it even states that that newer Peavey mixers do not require an external drive, that you simply use the usb cable to go from back of mixer to laptop
Yes. There are a few ways to hook the mixer up. You can either go out to powered speakers, or simply go out like the video shows the powered speakers and instead of going to the speaker, go to an amplifier which will then go to speakers. Or lets say a guy has powered speakers and an amplifier, I believe he can even come out of the powered speakers and into the amp to control them all. Hi I own the PV 10BT. I would like to connect an active floor monitor to my karaoke system. I have 2 active 15" behringers and planning on adding an 18" active subwoofer. I've seen some illustrations on ebay from your listings connecting the subwoofer from the Aux Send. So my question is...How would I connect the active floor monitor to my mixer if I use the Aux Send to send signal to the subwoofer??
I am so sorry I replied to all of these in for some reason none of them ever posted I assume at this point you've already figured it out typically on the mixer there's the monitor out and without looking at the video I would have thought I already went over that part so you could run your monitors from the monitor out on the mixer
Because most of our customers use Autotune in the dummy mode, it just works in the background and does not effect the usage of the echo/fx being used for the microphones. Although I know when you play with Autotune using the more pronounced settings, it completely overshadows any regular echo/fx. I believe the biggest misconception with Autotune for the masses is they think it will simply make them sound better. True & false at the same time. If you are a person that can read music notes/keys, then you can change the autotune to match the song, that's when you get the real benefit of autotune. For your average person doing karaoke shows, it's a cool feature, but not one that really enhances the vocals like full blown processors do. In fact, tc helicons voice processors are what I normally recommend if someone really wants to adjust vocals. Nothing personal to Peavey, but their Autotune is either for people that really understands keys, etc. or for those that just want their voice to sound funky for fun.
I replied to this before, sorry it must of not posted. Two fold reason. That was the first new mixer we received. All the previous versions had a usb port, yet were not able to use for playback. A peavey person took a guess and thought it was the same as previous version. Hence reason why I went with external sound card. Yet no mixer after that day had the card. Although the smaller 6 channel, it only has one knob on the laptop channel, so I still tell people that they can use one of the other channels to run laptop with external card if thier preference was to have more control over EQ'N from board. Thanks for the thoughtful input.
Yes, that they have released the new version. You simply take a usb cable and plug it into your computer and it should show that you are connected to the usb and off you go. Clearly superior to the traditional headphone jack hookup that many people have used. Feel free to click on the link at the top where you can purchase the mixer and we will even give you a nice usb cable with it too. MADPROAUDIO ~ DISABLED VETERAN ~ FAMILY OWNED COMPANY
detune is how far it can tune your voice to? maybe guessing and seconds is how long it takes auto tune to kick in? maybe seconds could mean the speed of the change in pitch and detune actually is a decision whereas it brightens or dullens your voice maybe not sure what the minus actually does I mean I hear what it does but i'de like a name for what it does maybe a better understanding of how it works.
Believe it or not I was told that the D tune is kind of like a tuner that you use on a piano. I have just found that virtually no one really uses it unless they want to tune a piano or maybe even a guitar and once again I could be wrong.

You are correct we actually did this video years ago right when the mixer came out unfortunately the previous version had USB as well but you could not use it as a media channel and that's why we originally set it up like that because we ask the manufacturer ahead of time and they did not give us a proper answer. Soon after we made that video we added the information talk permission talking about that it's just that we understand sometimes people will only watch the video and not read the description

@@HarvinderSingh-yy8th Thankyou for clarification. Our videos were not meant for professional advertisement. They were personally done as tutorials for our customers. So therefore it was recorded from a phone. The tutorial was the main focus. With regards to your interest in purchasing. Unfortunately, we are not shipping to your area. Sorry we could not be of more assistance.
Those two things are a valid assumption as additional reasons. Yet only to add to because in reality. Most people that watch the video simply does not know how to run a mixer to begin with. Even us, we are not the foremost expert. We did this video for our customer and covered the most important aspects for their needs, was never meant to be something that would target all needs.
No disrespect taken. In fact, your comment reminds me of a situation many years ago. Walked into a bar and the system sounded horrible. Walked over and asked if I could adjust some things. Went back to the bar and they all said "what did you do, the system sounds way better". Then 10 mins. later one of our club install guys walks in and goes over to the system and adjust it and now it even sound better than I did. So therefore, there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Yet I do believe that our video is actually right, just that maybe someone else could see it a different way. A set gain structure is not the answer all the time. Example; There are some powered speakers we have dealt with that tend to react better when the speaker itself has the gain set to max. We have even had a guy that builds Guitar amps and has patents that kept telling us to always set gains on amps/powered speakers to max. Yet even with the level of respect we have for this person, the manufacturers and the way they build things these days have made that impossible to follow the same rule all the time. Have dealt with one mixer where I could have a gain set at a certain point and it reacted much better than another mixer at the same gain structure. In the end, because there are so many variations of how people feel you should approach setting up a system. We simply feel comfortable knowing that when we set up a system, it sounds great. Trust me, I personally have far less experience than the sound guys that I have seen at big functions and even they sometimes make a system sound awful. Feel free to watch the video again and then email us at info@madproaudio.com with any suggestions on what you believe is a better approach and we are more than opened minded to accept another opinion out there. In conclusion, you have to trust that I actually do know what I am doing for the most part and a one size fits all approach simply does not work for us & if we listened to everyone that said they were an expert, we would be forced to do gain structure in about 20 different ways. Go figure! Thanks for the comment and really, we encourage constructive criticism. MADPROAUDIO ~ DISABLED VETERAN ~ FAMILY OWNED CO.
MADPROAUDIO I totally hear you. I used to guess at how to do a cold system setup and had a bad mentor that basically relied on superstition and always setting things the same way to make it sound good. if something got bumped or a singer was too loud or too quiet it would completely throw him off. it wasn't until I came across some good tutorials in a few forums that I completely understood what I was doing wrong. this mixer has a few nice features like being able to use the solo button to calibrate your input gains that gets you there. here's a really good place to start www.proaudio-central.com/article/How-to-set-up-gain-structure-part-one
Speaking of a soft singer. When my sister is on stage, she sings so soft that it does not matter what you do, you will clip the board if you don't force her to change her approach. Many people blame a system instead of educating people to better microphone usage. Even the way we set the gain for the mics can be seen as different than another persons means of setting up the board. I typically like turning the channel volume all the way down and then pushing the harshest vocals through the mic and keep bringing up the gain until I start to see the red clip light, then back off it just a bit. The music channel however can sometime present a scratch your head moment because it reacts differently, even depending upon the device you are running such as a difference with a phone hooked up to a system over a player. I typically spend time playing music at a higher volume and listen carefully to the clarity of the sound as I adjust the gain because in reality, I could jack that gain on the channel up much higher than a mic and it still would not clip on the board, yet never means that it is the best thing to do. Crazy how it works like that. I have even dealt with wireless mics that were so cheaply made, that you could not even turn the master volume up on the receiver high enough due to it clipping way too soon. Or I remember having a set of powered 15 inch speakers that performed much better having the gain on the speaker itself set to max. Yet had the same speaker on a different system and had to keep it at 60% of max as it distorted easier. Or thinking of the same identical system set up on one side of the room and the challenge of removing feedback was mind blowing, yet set up on the other side of the room, never had that same problem. Thank god I have a lot of great hair, or else I would pull it all out! By the way, I was just reminded of one of my church installs. The church has two Crown amps that put out about 100 rms per channel, they now have nice EV SX300's (4 of them) in the gym rafters. I keep telling them that they tied my hands because their budget would not allow for me to install the more powerful amps that the new speakers needed and hence the reason why I am having more difficulty with gain structure, feedback too soon, etc. The day they can afford the better amps, they are going to be stunned at how much better the system sounds. And lookie here, my brain keeps triggering other stories. Back to the mixer. Even a microphone can change the way you set your gains. I remember using a Sennheiser 935 and I was easily able to set the gain higher on the board as it had much higher volume before ffeedback over the cheaper mic. I LOVED experiencing that as it truly shows people that one size does not fit all. Take care!
You are actually right & wrong. There are times I believe Yamaha mixers served their purpose better for certain applications. Overall, I believe there clearly are Yamaha products that are better/next level. Yet the one point you missed is when it comes to pound for pound, Peavey is the king as they consistently put out product that out performs other brands at same price point. This is where your comment had some validity & yet was still subjective in nature. The opinions are just that for both of us, opinions.

Cool vid! thumbs up
Good video thanks
What is that white stuff you hooked into laptop?
@@romeovillones9410 For the most part, it is no longer needed as the mixers have better usb ports. It was an external sound card to enhance the sound.
Why are you using an "External Sound Card"?
The high pass setting what frequency does it start hi passing
I believe it starts at 150hz.
isnt there a usb cable in the back of the mixer much like you would find on a printer? I watched PV disect this thing and the way they talked you could send music to the board OR to the computer from it.. Is this true?
When you are watching the video, it even states that that newer Peavey mixers do not require an external drive, that you simply use the usb cable to go from back of mixer to laptop
Ronnie Paul : USB type A male to Type B.
can I add another *power amplifier to *main outputs to pushing more? I dont know much about mixers and amps.
Yes. There are a few ways to hook the mixer up. You can either go out to powered speakers, or simply go out like the video shows the powered speakers and instead of going to the speaker, go to an amplifier which will then go to speakers. Or lets say a guy has powered speakers and an amplifier, I believe he can even come out of the powered speakers and into the amp to control them all. can i use it to record vocals into pro tools or logic?
I believe that you should be able to as when you use recording softwares, you just need a mixer that can handle the input/output for recording. This has it. Plus it comes with a free sample software called Reaper in which I have heard nothing but good things about considering what it is. If you would like to dig deeper on this and are interested in purchasing the mixer from us. Email us at info@madproaudio.com and we can get you further information, plus pricing. We can get you the mixer plus a custom madproaudio led usb cable with it as well for the same price that the mixer sells for by itself. Plus we are the only company in the world with a lifetime dead cost repair/replace program.

Hi
I own the PV 10BT.
How to autotube working?
19:57
that means i can not use AT and Effects at the same time?
Thank YOU!
Why a remote soundcard?
Why not connect the USB cord directly from the computer to the mixer?
I replied to this before, sorry it must of not posted. Two fold reason. That was the first new mixer we received. All the previous versions had a usb port, yet were not able to use for playback. A peavey person took a guess and thought it was the same as previous version. Hence reason why I went with external sound card. Yet no mixer after that day had the card. Although the smaller 6 channel, it only has one knob on the laptop channel, so I still tell people that they can use one of the other channels to run laptop with external card if thier preference was to have more control over EQ'N from board. Thanks for the thoughtful input.
have you tried hooking it up to your computer? ??
Yes, that they have released the new version. You simply take a usb cable and plug it into your computer and it should show that you are connected to the usb and off you go. Clearly superior to the traditional headphone jack hookup that many people have used. Feel free to click on the link at the top where you can purchase the mixer and we will even give you a nice usb cable with it too.

I was actually looking for a better description of what exactly detune and seconds means ....
detune is how far it can tune your voice to? maybe guessing and seconds is how long it takes auto tune to kick in? maybe seconds could mean the speed of the change in pitch and detune actually is a decision whereas it brightens or dullens your voice maybe not sure what the minus actually does I mean I hear what it does but i'de like a name for what it does maybe a better understanding of how it works.
Believe it or not I was told that the D tune is kind of like a tuner that you use on a piano. I have just found that virtually no one really uses it unless they want to tune a piano or maybe even a guitar and once again I could be wrong.
Solo turns that channel off and on in the headset. So you could solo to people and here just them in the headset

its got blue tooth not sure why you would need to use a sound card....I connect my laptop to my samsung TV then run to the audio ports on mine but I can connect directly to the mixer using blue tooth...
I like it
im almost 100% certain that pv at10 has usb direct out to computer. not sure you needed the external sound card.
You are correct we actually did this video years ago right when the mixer came out unfortunately the previous version had USB as well but you could not use it as a media channel and that's why we originally set it up like that because we ask the manufacturer ahead of time and they did not give us a proper answer. It was only after that video that we tested it the other way and it works exactly as you state. Soon after we made that video we added the information talk permission talking about that it's just that we understand sometimes people will only watch the video and not read the description
@@MADPROAUDIO it’s a great informative approach. Just thought I’d mention it to check my own sanity. Lol.

Its hard to tell. Are you saying there is distotion in video or your listening with headphones and hear distortion?

With regards to your interest in purchasing. Unfortunately, we are not shipping to your area. Sorry we could not be of more assistance.
I think most people that buy this mixer are confused with compressor effects and auto tune, probably why they would click on this to begin with.
Those two things are a valid assumption as additional reasons. Yet only to add to because in reality. Most people that watch the video simply does not know how to run a mixer to begin with. Even us, we are not the foremost expert. We did this video for our customer and covered the most important aspects for their needs, was never meant to be something that would target all needs.

no disrespect intended but you could use some training on gain structure.
Take care!

Yamaha mixers is best than peavey
You are actually right & wrong. There are times I believe Yamaha mixers served their purpose better for certain applications. Overall, I believe there clearly are Yamaha products that are better/next level. Yet the one point you missed is when it comes to pound for pound, Peavey is the king as they consistently put out product that out performs other brands at same price point. This is where your comment had some validity & yet was still subjective in nature. The opinions are just that for both of us, opinions.
