    Quick question: is the following the recommended number of seconds per steep?
    0) Rinse
    1) 20 seconds
    2) 25 seconds
    3) 30 seconds
    4) 35 seconds
    5) 40 seconds
    6) 45 seconds
    7) 50 seconds
    8) 55 seconds
    9) 60 seconds
    This is for Meileaf's "Eastern Beauty" Oolong, whose box states 9 "number of infusions," and the time listed at 20 seconds for first infusion, then +5 seconds for +infusions.
    Thanks for all your lovely videos!

    Jade or greener oolongs I find rather floral, although I like darker oolongs. Most of the oolongs or puerh I bought was not really the most expensive sort so I blended them a bit and drank them straight. Like with the puerh I did it with few leaves over the kettle and made very small cups of the trial samples I got for free. I like darker oolongs especially as they taste more rich, yet sometimes smoky - like they are slightly grilled

    @Mei Leaf Exactly how long it is to steep the Oolong tea in the teapot after rinsing it. I noticed that Oolong tea loses its taste after the first brew. I normally steep for 3 mins. Is it normal to only brew Oolong once?

    • @MeiLeaf
      @MeiLeaf  6 років тому

      It sounds like you are not brewing Gong Fu Style (we have done many videos about this style of brewing so maybe check out 'Switch to Gong Fu Brewing'). If you are brewing Western style then Oolong teas should give you 2-3 infusions depending on the type and quality of the tea. The times vary deoending on the tea but we would never recommend 3 minute brews. If you check out our brewing guide then this will give you some guidelines for all tea types - meileaf.com/article/basic-brewing-guide/

    2:15 You poured boiling hot water into tea pot. How many oz. of hot water do I use? Because of this tea being so much more expensive, I just wanted to get the process of making oolong tea right the first time and every time after that.

  • @rdu239

    I've tasted couple of oolong brands in the market, not sure how they do it but the general flavor profile I got conditioned by drinking them non stop is: light, fresh and fragrant, the general flavor is mild, refreshing and has a hint of sweetness to it even if I steep it for 5 to 7 minutes, the color is mild yellow. Or maybe the oolongs in the groceries generally are the "green" oolongs, the lightly roasted ones, hence the absence of the standard tea bitterness I am expecting.

    Dear Don,
    Lately I have been obsessed with Oolong tea. I was searching the chinalife website and found two oolongs that were very appealing to me: Alishan Cream and Eastern Beauty.
    I noticed that you can only select between "Packet" and "Taster Bag". Am I doing something wrong or is this intended? For me that is somewhat of a problem, since I will be shipping from the UK to Germany and 50g of tea will barely last me a months, if even.
    Furthermore, are there any oolongs you partcularly recommend to newbies? I don't think I can taste all the subtle notes yet, so I think something with a punch, with a strong nutty flavor and a honey finish would be perfect. Thank you in advance!

    • @MeiLeaf
      @MeiLeaf  8 років тому +1

      Hi. We are going to start selling the tea loose in 250g pouches for those that wish more than a packet size. We can send you prices if you are interested in this option. In terms of recommendations I would say:
      FROZEN SUMMIT or MIDNIGHT SUN - a nutty, dark roasted oolongs with a smooth and long. aftertaste.
      EASTERN BEAUTY or ROYAL PEACH ORCHID - Fruity, floral and woody teas
      ALISHAN CREAM or SUPERIOR IRON GODDESS - Light, creamy and flowery. ALISHAN CREAM is more buttery than SUPERIOR IRON GODDESS which is more floral.

      @MeiLeaf  8 років тому

      +Skok w Bok Blog Thanks for the questions and for watching. This was meant to be a simple montage of brewing Oolong and we will be making more detailed educational videos in the future but here are the answers to your questions:
      1. Water Temperature - for ball rolled oolong we recommend 95C water which is basically boiling (the water cools as you pour it into you brewing pot/gaiwan).
      2. You pour the rinse into the cup to warm the cup and begin coating the cup with the minerals of the tea.
      3. I don't have a name for my whale but I purchased it in China. We have a teapet which changes colour (click here for video and product information: chinalifeweb.com/shop/product/cl-bufc/193/). You do not require a teapet but it adds a bit of company and fun to the brewing.

    Hey Don, your guide shows 99c for wulongs but most places all recommend 95c and a few 90c. What’s your reasoning? Does it change with lighter vs. darker wulongs? Thanks

    • @MeiLeaf
      @MeiLeaf  5 років тому +1

      I think that a lot of places write 95 because it is near impossible to brew at 99 due to heat dissipation during brewing. In general I think that for darker Oolongs the hotter the better for medium Oolongs 95 and for light Oolongs you can go a bit lower. Anything under 90 is too low in my opinion.
