Chris Kontos is a beast! I like him because he is from the Vinnie Paul school of drumming. No unnecessary crashes or chinas. Just use the ride and hats and bring a killer beat. Also those fills are soo tasty! grats

So good. Burn My Eyes is the absolute best Machine Head album even to this day. The grooves, solos, beats, vocals on that album were practically flawless. Sad they never could capture that sound again.

The band has great skill when they put their minds to it, but most records only feature some of their best tracks out there. It gets repetitive really quick, especially on the older outputs. Only The Blackening managed to keep me captured from start to finish upon first listening. Especially since I had only recently entered music school to learn e-guitar when they dropped this monster of an album. You get a wholly different level of attachment to a band when you are determined to let them (and others) be your motivation whilst learning an instrument ;)

I have to say how great it feels to see this lineup playing what I think of as their "signature" song...having Mader there and Kontos who turned the sticks over to Dave McClain to start playing on The More Things Change (McClain is undeniably great, but the percussion on Burn My Eyes done by Kontos is the backbone supporting that albums standing as legendary). Burn My Eyes was a defining watermark in heavy music during the 90's, I wore grooves into that album, I played in bands where we covered Davidian and Blood for Blood during our shows. SO. MUCH. INSPIRATION. Yeah I can't express how pivotal it is.
Kontos's drumming is what made 'Burn my eyes' a classic in my opinion.

EDIT: Never truly appreciated how terrific the drumming is on this track. But hearing AND watching them has given me a new level of appreciation. Awesome!
Legendary Album
I have to say how great it feels to see this lineup playing what I think of as their "signature" song...having Mader there and Kontos who turned the sticks over to Dave McClain to start playing on The More Things Change (McClain is undeniably great, but the percussion on Burn My Eyes done by Kontos is the backbone supporting that albums standing as legendary). Burn My Eyes was a defining watermark in heavy music during the 90's, I wore grooves into that album, I played in bands where we covered Davidian and Blood for Blood during our shows. SO. MUCH. INSPIRATION. Yeah I can't express how pivotal it is.
