That's looks AWESOME! But, I recommend to remake the combat, because 90% of rpg games like your in roblox has the same combat mechanics, you should add: 1. Swing delay 2. Blocking/parrying 3. Dashing (any direction) 4. Buff enemies so u cant just spam attack, they can block, dodging etc. This will really spice up the combat and make the game special!
I got a couple of ideas, • make it possible for ranged enemies melee so they can't be killed easily • There should be parrying, but not deepwoken type parrying, more like leaning onto smash bros where it's a frame • there should be classes so every person feels important in their role (please add pirate class😭) • you should make each enemy feel like they're a threat more than an obstacle by giving them attacks different attacks,such as the zombie having a grab attack that you either have to mash out or get a friend to help you • maybe energy implemented like legend of zelda so they cant spam anything too much • i know you started so you have a ton of ideas but what about player animations? Just seeing the nomral roblox walk takes away the intrest and makes it seem more of a copy and paste game (for me) other than that this seems pretty straightcant wait to play it
I feel like a roll/dodge would be better for RPGS because it feels more real/tangible rather than a dash which is nearly impossible irl illusion (unless your planning on adding magic)
I would suggest adding more objects and secrets to the maps! Such as perhaps you could have breakable items and chests around each level and you could also have different level designs with unique differences such as perhaps in one level there could be a mountain that the player needs to climb or a bridge that you can build to access a secret level or you could have levels with different pathways that lead to different levels. The game will get repetitive if you don’t add unique playability and fun features that the player enjoy. Lastly, i suggest adding cool abilities both out of levels and in levels and perhaps you could have levels that have buffs/abilities that you can unlock, buy, find or save for deeper levels.
I really like this, and the current progress looks great! One thing that would be very nice is class composition. This can be done by making weapons with other passives, such as a staff that shoots projectiles for a magic-class, a book/tome to heal for a healer class, or a shield that absorbs nearby damage for a tank class. This not only gives a variety of gameplay types, but also connects very well to a multiplayer system, which I can only say good luck on.

this game looks very nice. for me personally i like games where it literally puts you in a constant adrenaline rush. how do you do that? simple, make the combat harder. here are some suggestions: 1. hits to the head deals more damage ( this works for both players and enemies ) 2. buff the enemies to make them (almost) as strong as the player 3. enemies can dash away from your attacks 4. blocks and parries ; blocks will reduce the damage while parries fully negates them 5. traps 6. make enemies have a diverse attack pattern 7. a goblin with a MG42 but to be honest this game is looking great so far, can't wait to see the next devlogs.

To extend on the combat idea some people are having(block parry dodge etc) you should add some sort of other indicator that the enemy is about to attack, A tutorial would also be pretty cool🔥

I know it probably doesn’t sound important but lore should be made before the rest of the maps, enemies, etc. This is because if you don’t have at least some idea of how your world works or how it’s supposed to look you’re going to end up with random ideas smashing into each other in ways that don’t really work as well as as they could. I don’t have any suggestions for what said lore should be since the game is so early in development, and it’s your game anyways so I should stay out of that, but I wanted to try and make sure you don’t fall into that trap. (Lore can be really simple, like “evil guy made dungeon, you don’t like evil guy, kill him!!!” Just for context, even if that’s lame)
game looks awesome so far! something cool to add maybe is after you beat a certain amount of "grass levels" (the ones showed up in the video), you can summon a boss which you could defeat to go onto more levels, maybe a snow level or something. If you want the summoning to not be free, an idea i also had was having items get dropped from the npcs too, items to help you then items to summon bosses (misc items). Also something unique in rpg games are the abilities. I recommend adding them to help the player beating tougher enemies. RPG games also have secrets, so abilities can be helpful in that category (e.g. like a fireball can burn ice down for a secret item).
what I hope to see in the next devlog - ~ Idol animations for at least most of the base weapons, and enemies ~ Entity traits - Essentially giving more variety to your enemies without making new characters by adding a slight chance that an enemy has been buffed by a "trait" this can be shown by an aura or a specific accessory added to their design (this can also be used as a potential way to get more rare items or what not. ~ Archetypes - Just as you gave the monster/enemies different types of weapons and status as a variety variable do the same with the player making at least 2 or even 1 new archetype (like archer, demolition, brute-like, mage, etc...) ~ Previously given advice from other people that have commented before me (P.S: obviously I don't expect everything idea we as in your fan base made to be included but if you do feel you have too then do not be overwhelmed and go at your own pace, as old as you are I'm sure you know this already. idk bout' some of these other people but im not a game dev so I wouldn't know how doing this feels. Simply take our idea into consideration going forward and at this point I'm yapping so I will pause here before I turn into a father XD.)

Sound pretty fun! i have a suggestion for your game: New combat Fightstyles. you'll start with the basic attack animations. But if you cleared few rooms... you'll choose which one fight style to place on one of the three combat slots. it's like just Endless Wander(Mobile Game app). it'll help you fight - quick, or brutal, and fancy! there are many fightstyles that will make a great combo.

Make each weapon have a cool, unique swing pattern. I feel like rarer swords should have more than just flashy looks, but flashy attacks too. Maybe also add a heavy attack, different weapon types or classes, & make the AI able to block, so that it will have a chance lol. Heavy attacks could do more damage & break blocks, but stun the player if they are missed. I dunno, I’m just spouting ranting stuff here.😅 This is really cool though! I would suggest adding a class system for the player to make gameplay more unique, and a skill tree would be a really cool addition to this feature. Just imagine classes similar to those in terreria with skill tree paths that focus on certain skills/attributes like in diaoblo IV. I know it would be time consuming and difficult to add these ideas, but it will definitely make the gameplay loops more interesting and increase replay ability.
would recommend things like perks (ex - taking damage increases attack percentage for x amount of time) allows people to make unique builds and vary their gameplay experience. also allowing weapons and armor to drop with substats like crit rate or crit damage.

You should add raids and include a boss. Here is the boss suggestion: Name: Dreadvolk Carus- Has a monster like sword and has a smashing attack can roll and swing. You can add a feature that you can parry the swing. Btw the appearance is like a dark knight with crow armor
One thing that I would say is that you need more GUI that shows your weapons, health, etc.. It would make the game screen feel fuller rather than just clicking and killing mobs. Hope this helped :)
My problem is that there isn’t really that many unique concepts at all, right now it’s just swing, dodge, win and get better. Here’s a few things that i want added, please take into consideration. -More risk, more reward (not like dificulties or anything…) -I know i feel like i have already said this in some way. Dont just make a dungeon quest game there’s already quite a few of them. -Implement timing. -Make enemies do things that the player would do in their own playthrough, like be able to make choices based on their position, health and as well as the players health. Although complex, it’ll make it quite interesting. Like a confident Brave enemy that’s actually just a scardey cat when they’re in a bad position (low health) And get cocky when your low and just run after you swinging a sword. Like make them realistic. -Add buffs you can get, like break rooms. -Multi-Choice Routes with varying Difficulty and reward. -Customizable avatar that follows the actual style. (do this to the enemy’s to.) -Take some inspiration from cult of the lamb, i know it’s a weird suggestion but yk. You have so much potential man. so i want to support you :)
5:43 be careful of stuns, multiple giants could end up permanently stun locking the player. My favorite way is having repeated stuns last a shorter amount each time, but a short stun immunity is always good

I have a fun idea, for the starting sword (or the first/lowest tier sword drop) how about you make it so that if you merge it idk. 100/1000 times it becomes really powerful as like a troll sword.
its more of a rogue-like, I LOVE myself a good roblox RPG. and i dont think this is one so here are some tips to make it more RPGish 1: make it an open world instead of rounds, this makes the game feel more open and urges the player to explore what the map has to offer and find all of its secrets 2: another rpg named swordburst 2 does the open world great. They have a lobby (arcadia) and then they have floor 1, you explore the map and you find harder enemies the deeper you go, and then at the end of the map, there is a dungeon. the dungeon is a maze with hard enemies to defeat and once you reach the end, its a big boss battle which you either need the best gear, or a group of people to defeat the boss, and then it repeats with different floors and each floor has its own enemies and theme 3: delete merging and instead make a dismantle system where you destroy a sword for an upgrade crystal, so like you dismantle a common sword for a common crystal, and legendary for legendary, that would be how you upgrade the swords you have, also make a cap for how much you can upgrade. 4: do NOT add pets, pets are the worst thing you can add to an rpg because it deletes the whole fantasy vibe 5: add mounts, they are like pets but instead of boosting stats, they let you travel the open world map faster, you could also add flying mounts to make the game fun, and maybe a special world that needs a flying mount to get to. 6: FIX YOUR COMBAT, listen to the people in the comments that are saying to add parrying and swing delay and dashing and stuff. most games have the basic combat like in your game, AND ITS NOT FUN, make the combat challenging for the player so that they dont get so bored they quit before they get to the good parts. I'm SO excited to see what you will cook for us hungry children. tiny things that would make your game so much better add accesories, like terraria does again, please add an open world. dont make it like dungeon quest thats the worst rpg ever created for each map (if you decide to make it an open world) have atleast 1 miniboss and 1 main boss, the mini boss is a boss you can kill by yourself, it its still a challenge, this will get you some good gear for the main boss of the world. please make the XP rates good, i recommend you should kill like atleast 15-30 of the enemy your level before you level up once make each world (if you decide to make it an open world) have levels, like world 1 is level 0-20 and world 2 is 20-50 world 3 50-75 then world 4 to 75-100

You should make a few player classes. 1: the syndicate (is an assassin exept better and get via badge) 2: royal knight (deals lots of damage at the cost of speed and attack cooldown)
I think you should make it so the characters move in a retro like way and the attacks work with them cohesively to look like a true retro sword swing (or modern, if that’s what you prefer)
I would make a set player model because having armor on your main avatar looks goofy. Your idea for this game reminds me of a video where developers took turn on creating a game they had no idea about too, idk if thats where you got inspiration but good luck!
I think that you should not only have swords and basic armor, but have bows and staffs as droppables too, as well as their respective armors that might give less protection, but more damage in that specific damage type. Also some acessories would be cool (for example gives +10% magic damage)
I'd say replace armors giving HP with a defense stat, every one DEF on an armor will remove 0.1 DMG from an incoming attack or something Make more types of weapons with different attack types Axes/Maces that are harder to swing and deal more DMG. Spears that you stab forwards with and can attack much faster in bursts You get the picture Walking and running toggle that accelerates as you have it in use instead of instantly making you faster A dodging mechanic that allows you to weave around enemy attacks and gain a chance to strike via a slowdown for the world around you A dodge signal that appears when you need to dodge, and changes colors when you can perfect dodge (the mechanic above) Blocking attacks via block stances (Left, right, down, center, up) A stamina mechanic that drains when you run, dodge, or successfully block an attack, and replenishes while standing still, running out of stamina causes your character to briefly be vulnerable to attacks
Idea: Make it so that the enemies (or zombies idk) can use some of the swords, then when you defeat them you can get the sword, or a sword fragment. Get three sword fragments and a handle (type of item for a crafting system) to make the sword (the sword would obviously have to be around 3x more rare than the fragments, or crafting (if implemented) would be useless)

Cool game! i recomend to make the combat very satisfying (maybe add more sounds, effects when enemies get hit, etc) cause it will carry the game heavily
To extend on the combat idea some people are having(block parry dodge etc) you should add some sort of other indicator that the enemy is about to attack,

that's actually looks good and i have some ideas
1. Put a random Enemies on every level so it dosen't feel repetitive.
2. Add potions for damage and health and shield etc.
3. Add a lot of swords and armors and some potions.
4.Add a hard boss on every 10 levels so it would be challenging for the player.
5.Try to add lil details to the enemies like bags or ChestPlates etc

I know it probably doesn’t sound important but lore should be made before the rest of the maps, enemies, etc.
This is because if you don’t have at least some idea of how your world works or how it’s supposed to look you’re going to end up with random ideas smashing into each other in ways that don’t really work as well as as they could.
I don’t have any suggestions for what said lore should be since the game is so early in development, and it’s your game anyways so I should stay out of that, but I wanted to try and make sure you don’t fall into that trap.
(Lore can be really simple, like “evil guy made dungeon, you don’t like evil guy, kill him!!!” Just for context, even if that’s lame)

game looks awesome so far! something cool to add maybe is after you beat a certain amount of "grass levels" (the ones showed up in the video), you can summon a boss which you could defeat to go onto more levels, maybe a snow level or something. If you want the summoning to not be free, an idea i also had was having items get dropped from the npcs too, items to help you then items to summon bosses (misc items). Also something unique in rpg games are the abilities. I recommend adding them to help the player beating tougher enemies. RPG games also have secrets, so abilities can be helpful in that category (e.g. like a fireball can burn ice down for a secret item).

what I hope to see in the next devlog -
~ Idol animations for at least most of the base weapons, and enemies
~ Entity traits - Essentially giving more variety to your enemies without making new characters by adding a slight chance that an enemy has been buffed by a "trait" this can be shown by an aura or a specific accessory added to their design (this can also be used as a potential way to get more rare items or what not.
~ Archetypes - Just as you gave the monster/enemies different types of weapons and status as a variety variable do the same with the player making at least 2 or even 1 new archetype (like archer, demolition, brute-like, mage, etc...)
~ Previously given advice from other people that have commented before me
(P.S: obviously I don't expect everything idea we as in your fan base made to be included but if you do feel you have too then do not be overwhelmed and go at your own pace, as old as you are I'm sure you know this already. idk bout' some of these other people but im not a game dev so I wouldn't know how doing this feels. Simply take our idea into consideration going forward and at this point I'm yapping so I will pause here before I turn into a father XD.)

Sound pretty fun! i have a suggestion for your game: New combat Fightstyles. you'll start with the basic attack animations. But if you cleared few rooms... you'll choose which one fight style to place on one of the three combat slots. it's like just Endless Wander(Mobile Game app). it'll help you fight - quick, or brutal, and fancy! there are many fightstyles that will make a great combo.

Make each weapon have a cool, unique swing pattern. I feel like rarer swords should have more than just flashy looks, but flashy attacks too. Maybe also add a heavy attack, different weapon types or classes, & make the AI able to block, so that it will have a chance lol. Heavy attacks could do more damage & break blocks, but stun the player if they are missed. I dunno, I’m just spouting ranting stuff here.😅

Well you see, most of people like the games to look old. And the character must look exactly as the game design, if you have a roblox 2024 character avatar or whatever it's called, and the game is like voxblade or bloxy, the avatar is not matchy, and the game does't have a cool look on it.

Make so the players can chose classes and have a teamwork so the game is more interesting
I would suggest adding a class system for the player to make gameplay more unique, and a skill tree would be a really cool addition to this feature. Just imagine classes similar to those in terreria with skill tree paths that focus on certain skills/attributes like in diaoblo IV. I know it would be time consuming and difficult to add these ideas, but it will definitely make the gameplay loops more interesting and increase replay ability.
would recommend things like perks (ex - taking damage increases attack percentage for x amount of time) allows people to make unique builds and vary their gameplay experience. also allowing weapons and armor to drop with substats like crit rate or crit damage.

7.add potions which can be dropped by monster example potion of damage, health and ect.
8.add npc which give you quest.
9.add weapon durability to balance the game.
10. add npc which can help you like blacksmith reforges your weapon,mage enchants your weapons,guild master helps you create a guild and he is the tutorial.😊 thats all
You should add raids and include a boss. Here is the boss suggestion: Name: Dreadvolk Carus- Has a monster like sword and has a smashing attack can roll and swing. You can add a feature that you can parry the swing. Btw the appearance is like a dark knight with crow armor
One thing that I would say is that you need more GUI that shows your weapons, health, etc.. It would make the game screen feel fuller rather than just clicking and killing mobs. Hope this helped :)
My problem is that there isn’t really that many unique concepts at all, right now it’s just swing, dodge, win and get better.
Here’s a few things that i want added, please take into consideration.
-More risk, more reward (not like dificulties or anything…)
-I know i feel like i have already said this in some way. Dont just make a dungeon quest game there’s already quite a few of them.
-Implement timing.
-Make enemies do things that the player would do in their own playthrough, like be able to make choices based on their position, health and as well as the players health. Although complex, it’ll make it quite interesting. Like a confident Brave enemy that’s actually just a scardey cat when they’re in a bad position (low health) And get cocky when your low and just run after you swinging a sword. Like make them realistic.
-Add buffs you can get, like break rooms.
-Multi-Choice Routes with varying Difficulty and reward.
-Customizable avatar that follows the actual style. (do this to the enemy’s to.)
-Take some inspiration from cult of the lamb, i know it’s a weird suggestion but yk.

5:43 be careful of stuns, multiple giants could end up permanently stun locking the player. My favorite way is having repeated stuns last a shorter amount each time, but a short stun immunity is always good

you should make the combat actually hard, unlike blox fruits and games like that where you just hit the npc until they die without much challenge.

Make chests randomly spawn every once in a while, and some of the chests can be mimics
You should add enchanting and different weapon classes like bows staffs etc
Some enchants could be to upgrade the weapons to do fire damage or the armor having a chance to completely block an weak attack
I always wanted to play a rpg fantasy like with slimes , goblins, dragons, a level stat system, rare power and items,PvP and to give enemies a ai so they can wonder the world their in instead of staying in the same spawn area
I have a fun idea, for the starting sword (or the first/lowest tier sword drop) how about you make it so that if you merge it idk. 100/1000 times it becomes really powerful as like a troll sword.
its more of a rogue-like, I LOVE myself a good roblox RPG. and i dont think this is one
so here are some tips to make it more RPGish
1: make it an open world instead of rounds, this makes the game feel more open and urges the player to explore what the map has to offer and find all of its secrets
2: another rpg named swordburst 2 does the open world great. They have a lobby (arcadia) and then they have floor 1, you explore the map and you find harder enemies the deeper you go, and then at the end of the map, there is a dungeon. the dungeon is a maze with hard enemies to defeat and once you reach the end, its a big boss battle which you either need the best gear, or a group of people to defeat the boss, and then it repeats with different floors and each floor has its own enemies and theme
3: delete merging and instead make a dismantle system where you destroy a sword for an upgrade crystal, so like you dismantle a common sword for a common crystal, and legendary for legendary, that would be how you upgrade the swords you have, also make a cap for how much you can upgrade.
4: do NOT add pets, pets are the worst thing you can add to an rpg because it deletes the whole fantasy vibe
5: add mounts, they are like pets but instead of boosting stats, they let you travel the open world map faster, you could also add flying mounts to make the game fun, and maybe a special world that needs a flying mount to get to.
6: FIX YOUR COMBAT, listen to the people in the comments that are saying to add parrying and swing delay and dashing and stuff. most games have the basic combat like in your game, AND ITS NOT FUN, make the combat challenging for the player so that they dont get so bored they quit before they get to the good parts. I'm SO excited to see what you will cook for us hungry children.

for each map (if you decide to make it an open world) have atleast 1 miniboss and 1 main boss, the mini boss is a boss you can kill by yourself, it its still a challenge, this will get you some good gear for the main boss of the world.
please make the XP rates good, i recommend you should kill like atleast 15-30 of the enemy your level before you level up once

I think you should make it so the characters move in a retro like way and the attacks work with them cohesively to look like a true retro sword swing (or modern, if that’s what you prefer)

I think that you should not only have swords and basic armor, but have bows and staffs as droppables too, as well as their respective armors that might give less protection, but more damage in that specific damage type. Also some acessories would be cool (for example gives +10% magic damage)

I'd say replace armors giving HP with a defense stat, every one DEF on an armor will remove 0.1 DMG from an incoming attack or something
Make more types of weapons with different attack types
Axes/Maces that are harder to swing and deal more DMG.
Spears that you stab forwards with and can attack much faster in bursts
You get the picture
Walking and running toggle that accelerates as you have it in use instead of instantly making you faster
A dodging mechanic that allows you to weave around enemy attacks and gain a chance to strike via a slowdown for the world around you
A dodge signal that appears when you need to dodge, and changes colors when you can perfect dodge (the mechanic above)
Blocking attacks via block stances (Left, right, down, center, up)
A stamina mechanic that drains when you run, dodge, or successfully block an attack, and replenishes while standing still, running out of stamina causes your character to briefly be vulnerable to attacks

maybe you can make unique death animations for enemies or auras for players, but this looks banger! i cant wait to this game to be finished!
Idea: Make it so that the enemies (or zombies idk) can use some of the swords, then when you defeat them you can get the sword, or a sword fragment. Get three sword fragments and a handle (type of item for a crafting system) to make the sword (the sword would obviously have to be around 3x more rare than the fragments, or crafting (if implemented) would be useless)
