My mom passed yesterday and listen to this song " Angie" brings me to uncontrollable sobbing. Thank you for being my mom and for raising me to be a strong, independent woman. I wish we had more time. I'm slowly but surely building my own list of 60's absolute best songs. What is amazing with that decade is the astounding number of talented, major singers and bands, and all the incredible songs they made. There are so many legendary songs, it just blow my mind. I have 40 tracks so far, the cream of the lot, and I just scratched the surface.
Well, The Beatles wrote about 213 songs in the 60s… So, that’s roughly _190-200_ songs you can add to your list. Bob Dylan put out 9 Albums; 8 of them are Masterpieces; And he recorded _”The Basement Tapes”_ with _The Band…_ So, that’s another 70-80 for the list.
Written while keith was in rehab. He wrote the chorus while detoxing. His daughter had just been born down the road and Ironically she was named Angela and called "Angie" which keith had no clue they had named her that. Pure coincidence. Great story behind the song.
@@dep7up Read Keith's book. Dandelion Angela Richards was born while keith was in Switzerland in rehab. Which is where he wrote the melody and had that name for the chorus. "There ain't a woman that comes close to you. Everywhere I look I see your eyes." Might have typed those lyrics in backward order, but you catch my drift.❤ Love Angie! What a heartbreaking, beautiful song. Mick Jagger really knew just how to tug at those heart strings. Masterpiece from a legendary rock & roll band.
Angie, my beautiful sister who died in 1998, I still love this song and miss you so much, my life is much different than I thought it would be, you broke our promise, but I still love you more than anyone. no one even comes close.
this is just one of those songs that you feel like everyone should listen to, but you also don't want anyone to listen to it just because it's that great. not sure if that made sense, but it's whatever.
This was my unfortunate and sad breakup song. The breakup of our marriage. The 1974 early summer night, I come late, a little drunk and my 6 month pregnant wife is sitting in the dark in the small living room chair with just the glow of her cigarette. This song is on the 8 track stereo. I remember it like it was yesterday. So bittersweet. My heart hurts the same every time I play it but I still do.
This is my current marriage break-up song. Got the papers yesterday. Listening today. Walking through the rubble tomorrow. We got this brother. Thanks for sharing.
This song is _made_ by the incredible piano part played by Nicky Hopkins, a session musician who also provided the pivotal piano on _She’s A Rainbow._ Dude was amazing - he played on _Sympathy For The Devil, No Expectations, Ventilator Blues_ and _Fool To Cry,_ amongst many others. He also played for the Beatles, the Kinks, and created the gorgeous piano part for John Lennon’s _Jealous Guy._ I’ve played the piano since I was seven and this guy’s talent and creativity blows my bloody mind. For a session musician to come in and contribute so much…fucking phenomenal. Nicky deserves much more recognition. What a genius.
Gosh, you just named quite a few of my fave RS songs. Definitely intrigued by this session musician now & will have to do some research. Ty for the input.😎🙂

The timeless classic 'Angie' by the legendary rock band The Rolling Stones is undoubtedly one of the most heart-wrenching ballads ever created, with its poignant lyrics and soulful melody capturing the essence of love and longing.
The best breakup song. It brings back so many memories. I’ve moved on since then, but this song will always have memories for me in it. I know it’s weird but sometimes I love to listen to this and think about my old girlfriend.

Apparently Mick's part of the lyrics referred to his breakup with Marianne Faithfull. She discusses this in her book. Keith claimed he came up with the name Angie at random as it fit the music nicely, though he did name his daughter Angie so who knows. They were all a little in love with Angie Dickenson (as so many men were at the time) so that could have inspired the name as well. And then there's Mick's brief affair with Angie Bowie and she claims in her book to be the inspiration for the song. Her book has a lot of fabrications though so it's probably not true.

This is definitely the best song of the Rolling Stones. It takes me back to my teen years when music was either a record or on the radio.
Love the minor chords, especially the key change, evokes longing, emotion. This song, to me, really shows the true musical talent of The Stones.
Don't forget that Taylor was there and he is a master of major/minor weaving.

Angie, Angie
When will those dark clouds all disappear
Angie, Angie
Where will it lead us from here
With no lovin' in our souls
And no money in our coats
You can't say we're satisfied
Angie, Angie
You can't say we never tried
Angie, you're beautiful
But ain't it time we say goodbye
Angie, I still love you
Remember all those nights we cried
All the dreams were held so close
Seemed to all go up in smoke
Let me whisper in your ear
Angie, Angie
Where will it lead us from here
Oh, Angie, don't you wish
Oh your kisses still taste sweet
I hate that sadness in your eyes
But Angie
Angie
Ain't it time we said goodbye
With no lovin' in our souls
And no money in our coats
You can't say we're satisfied
Angie, I still love you baby
Everywhere I look I see your eyes
There ain't a woman that comes close to you
Come on baby dry your eyes
Angie, Angie ain't good to be alive
