Thanks got keeping it simple. As a novice it can be overwhelming with all the equipment available
Glad to help
I learned to DJ on vinyl. I'm glad I did it since it taught me a lot of things, but it's by no means the only or even best way. When I switched to digital I got a Hercules DJ Console Mk 4. It's honestly pretty bad but I still have it because it still works and it does everything you absolutely need from a controller. As long as you can learn the basics you can apply that knowledge to anything. Only real advantage to learning on specific gear is muscle memory and that's not strictly necessary for all types of DJing.
Any tips on going digital? I feel I might be ready, but turning vinyl into digital has me so scared on how long it will take and quality of the finished tunes.
I am thinking of getting a DJM-900nxs2 with 2 CDJ-200Nexus. It seems to be the closest to old school mixing.
Thank you for your time
All true. And I used to DJ on that unit many years ago too!
Just buy the digital versions of the vinyl you want to DJ with. It is not worth the hassle to rip it, unless you cannot buy a digital version.
What you outline is 100% pro gear, you really don't need that, but if it's what you want, it's the industry standard so you won't go wrong.
You may want to try a simple, cheap controller and laptop first though, then it becomes your backup system when you do upgrade (at which point you'll know what you want to upgrade to). A FLX4 is a good start.
Plus I've done the James Hype course 💪😎 what a Ninja ❤️ love that guy
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it
Can I just buy a DJ controller and start DJing at my home summer parties?
Yes!
how big is the learning curve going from ddj-400 to cdj’s? There’s an open deck event and wondering if it’s doable to hop without any hands on
Your first few mixes will likely take some getting used to, but it will start feeling like second nature within the first hour
Coming from an XDJ-RX, I had no issues when I put my hands on CDJs and a DJM mixer. Plus, I instantly fell in love with the haptics of CDJs. Their layout is pretty similar, and it's just really intuitive. Don't be scared, just give it a try.
@@djkarcher1896 thanks yeah your right!
@@Geedeecee1 I can see that
@@djstuc true true
...yes ,every deejay should know how to use any gear if he's a pro, but the most important in 2023 is to be a good ,,live producer,, like James Hype, he is a great producer first of all, thats how he have so many ideas of making drops and tips while he's playing the decks, you can learn every button and knob on cdj's but if you dont have an idea how to use it on a gig all that is useless...regards
@@djstuc ...yes, it's a matter of choice, anyway you have to learn how to use your gear...regards
A pro can play on any broken gear on the spot! If you listen at some moonlights you can still hear some amateurs are still stuck at club’s complaining they can’t do the gig…
It's true
I think that's complete BS. I can't stand a lot of DJ gear out there. It's like telling a drummer to drum on buckets because you know how to drum.
So you will turn down DJ work because you don't like the equipment in the venue or do you just stream from your bedroom?
Firstly, no need to be rude. Politeness costs nothing.
DJing is about playing other people's records. You can do that and deliver a great party on all kinds of gear. This video is about not obsessing about gear to the detriment of learning/doing the actual DJing.
Complete BS. There are numerous examples of professional guitarists and bassists playing Squiers and Epiphones which further proves the point. John Mayer/BB King etc. will sound great on every guitar even the market ones for 50$. Amateur without skills, without practice will sound terrible on most expensive Les Pauls, Fenders etc... Same applies to drummers mentioned by you... Keep practising and you'll be ale to do miracles on any gear.
I cant stand driving a lot of cars, but I`m not going to let that stop me getting to where I need to in some crappy hire car. Being able to effectively use what's in front of you is what separates real DJ`s from the wannabe`s.
@@djstuc Of course it does. It's my choice 😃
i Learned to dj with a cassette deck and a ceramic needle turntable sight cue for records and meter cue for cassette deck then graduated to 2 Goldring turntables with a variable resistor as a mixer then discovered a mixer with head phone cue and the turntables were pitch control as I was updating incorporated the new gear with the old to phase out old gear such conversion from record to cd the came the controller and the computer and phased that in so the whole setup changed after perfecting controller
The old days!
Congratulations Robert & BC 👏👏🍾🥂🎛🎛😎

Thanks for your support Ella.
I would love to buy the course. but in Argentina we paid taxes of 100% or more. that works out to about 1300 usd. impossible for the Argentine public. I also follow all your content. Is very good! Thanks!

Except the new Pioneer beast is a smash and grab for Pioneer trying to pry Serato customers away to record box
They didn’t even think about the stems mixing
No standalone has Stems mixing.
all equipent reacts the same when beer is spilt on it... i prefer cheaper stuff for gigs. sounds and works the same !
Good thinking :)
I like everything you talk about like your show.
Thanks Joe.
What’s interesting about this conversation is many modern DJs are more only using visuals to mix, ie no headphones
If you're using your eyes to mix music, you're doing it wrong. Use your ears. Particularly for beginners, staring at waveforms can cause way more problems than it solves.
Waveforms are great, and it's fine to use them. They should be thought of as something you have as well as your headphones though.
@@scoob101 reading waveforms is the same as reading grooves on vinyl, it's what I did to find the breaks back in the 80s. thats the purpose of pop up lights on 1200s
@@djstuc it is to me, but I know there other uses for waveforms which Im discovering as Im fairly new to digital DJing
@@djstuc have you ever tried reading record grooves? there were people in the 30s or earlier who were able to tell what instruments plays in any set grooves
I'm a #2 GAS type DJ. lol
you're not alone!
Not true. I tried on Acid once and i can’t explain how weird it was.
Hmmmm....
@@digitaldjtips 😆👊🏻
Man I love it when there's extra Buttons or screens to play on or figure out! I'm always like
" DAMN I WISH I HAD THIS ! "
💪😎 Gotta stay versatile bro !
Even us girls can do it without complaining 💪😎👌
... I always want more !
Oh yeah, always fun discovering new features!
I can dj on anything but i will it sound the way i sound on the right equipment. Some faders are just too slow. I also don’t like effects that i have to click something to go from one side to the next.
Saying this because I’m 60 and been a good DJ one 2 turn tables and a mixer. At 15 i was the main house DJ from age of 15 years old for 10 years. I’ll take my sb3 anywhere and put on a show. Great video info is great.
Thanks for sharing your journey.
some of us started playing onj 2 separate portable record players like the clock you've got behind!!! no mixer...WHY? Because we wanted to entertain an audience with our personal music taste. The rest is just updating to the needs and personal desires
Agreed
What’s a good mixer/ slash controller that works with my old 25 year turntables and laptop that also is compatible with Serato DJLite
@@djstuc thank you and definitely inexpensive for me because I only play around with my vinyl in my house
👍👍👍
👏👏👏👏
Not the gear it’s the ear.
That’s what I hear in the bear making groups. I been making beats for about 2 years considering trying to dj my beats as a excuse to invest in a side hustle and have a way to preform my beats but djing is pretty intimidating.
That's true though!
I would rather win a full course of DJ´ing from Digital DJ Tips :)
Thanks René!
My experience using pioneer ddj200 is that it has a limit as to what effect you want to use . But for me basic Dj equipment should do the work pretty well
No such thing as a beginner controller that does it all... but ALL of them do 10 times more than two turntables and a basic mixer can do!
As a ddj200 user myself, i would advice, if havent already, dive into midi mapping this lil boi. In rekordbox what i have now as a setup for home parties (trance/techno/electro), that is: manual looper, switching CFX, 3 hotcues, 1 fx unit, beatjump and moving a loop + some other stuff. My feeling aboit this now is that to squeeze more to play with i need to use Traktor (because mapping there is way more powerfull)... This is to have more CDJ-like controlls and for fun , i can share final mapping for Rekordbox if that sounds promising.
I went from a ddj1000 to a xdjRR and found that the rr suits me better
Oh for sure, we all have preferences!
I still use my Numark C3 😁
Perfect! :)
Yep you should DJ on anything you get your hands on.
You should WANT to, as well!
@@digitaldjtips yep I agree 👍😁what DJ wouldn't want too. Lol
Rappers can rap on any mic as well. But can you imagine a serious MC or any rapper, with a Brittney Spears headset Mic? It looks weak! DJ Stuc will be judging you if you have some tiny DJ-To-Go controller or DJ from your phone. The crowd won’t know but DJ Stuc the DJ God will look at that negatively. He has a few paid gigs a month and mixes uploaded to UA-cam! We’re not worthy 😂 lolllll Holy shit I’m dead 💀 😆
Nonsense. Lol. I guess looking tough makes you look more professional 🤣🤣
Now, that is definitely true. Although I've played a full nightclub literally with just a laptop before (long story), and they soon forgot what I was using after a song or two.
A common story, thanks for sharing Stu.
I had a feeling this comment might hurt some butts. Lol Wasn’t meant to hurt feelings. Just my 2 cents. ✌️
@@djstuc so, we agree that they think it right?
