"She's like a self-cleaning oven!" ... is both a hilarious and a very sad realization. Not only does it demonstrate under what pressure kids get (who care even a little about school) but also how (left) alone they always feel and how used they are to looking after themselves. ...In Alex case, partly because she was the middle child, who "will be fine," partly because Phil and Claire married young and had a lot to juggle at once, and partly because many parents subconsciously think that everything besides school (and physical health) has a secondary priority. Therefore, if a child nails school week after week, their subconscious signalizes them "she's an easy child," who thus needs less care and attention... Needless to say, there are so many more challenges in our human development other than school and grades, but parents often don't see those internal struggles until the smart child hits puberty ...at which point she already feels totally frustrated and tense and most of all lonely (because no family member can identify with her troubles and moods)! Poor girl.
What this episode missed is why Alex is the way that she is.... While they took this episode in the direction of people always expecting Alex to be smart I didn't kind of agree with it based on what we've seen. Claire and Phil arent the type of parents that pressurize Alex to constantly earn good grades. She does that all by herself. The question is why? The answer is Haley...Alex's identity and major issues spring from the relationship she shares with Haley...Haley is older, considered prettier and is therefore popular...she's also the kid that gets a lot of attention from her parents. Added to that Haley bullies Alex for things like her looks, her sense of style and her interest in things that don't include boys and parties..this pushes Alex to have deep insecurities about how she is perceived by people especially regarding her looks...for women no matter how intelligent we are our worth is measured by our looks and Alex feels that the world will never look at her the way it does for Haley ...she knows she can't compete with Haley in terms of looks so she carves a niche out for herself in terms of intelligence...this is why she's superior about it. It's the one place where she scores over Haley. When she's mentally breaking down and doesn't feel smart it triggers her insecurities about her worth and how she is perceived. The show showed nice Haley and Alex moments...but it didn't really acknowledge haley's mostly terrible treatment of her in the earlier seasons
Still tho her parents didn’t help or do anything to help , even tho they aren’t that type of parents ! They didn’t pay attention to her as much as they do luke or Haley
Depends on your location or state. Inmy country its very easy to attain a therapy session, however this is not covered by insurance yet. In hindsight, ot being covered by insurance made a lot of process easier due to promos or commercial in soc media
@@allenantoinetteolvena1890 define very easy because all therapists I called are well booked and even if they are accepting new patients it takes a minimum of 2 weeks to see them. I consider that easy because at least you can get an appointment with just a few calls. Getting an appointment same day seems very unrealistic.

This therapist should have been a main fixture in the show

Many ppl would have been turned off by Alex's character, but they'll understand if they felt a lart of what jt is to be an 'Alex'

Season 5 Episode 12
💓
Alex was always so pretentious throughout the entirety of Modern Family, I disliked her character immensely.
I felt the exact same way about Haley
Same n she was so rude to gloria
No one cares about what you think goofy
