GabrielenTutorials Oh come on. It is not always like that. Some Grimm stories are too dark in my taste to be read to children. Yes Disney often flattens original story but admit some Disney works are great. Their Rapunzel was great. It is all right when stories have happy ending. It is also good when they do not.

Notice around 2:10 how the "undead" lady in the book is a few pages after the "princess" page... could it be that what these people are doing will turn the lonely princess into the undead they fear? This songs ends too soon, I need to know what happens next.
Also, it seems they all read the same book (the "prince" and the townsfolk) and when they saw the lady they identified her as the undead and not the princess, showing how human nature is so quick to see the evil before seeing the good. God I love this song. And video.

the picture was drawn a while before they found her, I think she might not have looked like how she used to
after being left alone in a castle with only one small window, supplies would inevitably start to dwinkle causing her to look unnaturally thin, pale, and restless
she might've looked like an actual undead ghost/corpse
or they assumed she had died or gone insane from the isolation long ago (and was therefore an dead body singing to them)

It's kind of sad how unless you speak French, you don't understand what she was saying until the end. I guess that's why the townspeople killed her, though. They couldn't understand her or what she was saying, so they assumed it was something bad & that she was a demon. It's really creepy how, after they're burning her hair, it reveals the simplicity of what she was really saying. "And that's all she said". It wasn't a curse or a declaration of hatred, after all. Just a short introduction. That's it.

    • @yasa9031
      @yasa9031 8 років тому +275

When I watched it for the first time, I thought that they understand her a bit. She "clearly" says that she doesn't live. So I thought they understood that part, and that they didn't understood the real meaning behind what she said. They just thought "Omg, she doesn't live, she's a monster!"

    • @Eltrio2
      @Eltrio2 8 років тому +87

Somehow I doubt that. Most humans can recognize language even when it isn't native to us. I highly doubt that they killed her specifically because of a language barrier. Though with that said I have no clue why they killed her or why they though of her as any kind of threat.

    • @jazzar23
      @jazzar23 7 років тому +158

Eltrio, well two issues with that first is it seems that the people understood but only enough that they thought she was claiming to be a demon or undead by stating that she doesn't smile, laugh or live, and with her ghostly appearance they believed it thus a misunderstanding. second being the setting places them in a time where multilingual people and exposure to other languages was rarer so the barrier was a larger hurtle, as these clearly superstitious people willing to believe the man's claim without much doubt their in their dark view of her was all based on misunderstandings, assumptions, fear, reactions instead of observation and logic and kindness. Their actions are cruel and are symbolic of how people are cruel to innocent people they don't fully understand and that's the tragedy of it all.
If the man had only taken more time to listen and love he could have be this woman's prince but he only realized once they had scorned and burned her, if only he hadn't assumed so much of her for only her appearance and introduction it was a life he ruined by simply telling people she was a monster based on a single encounter
my point is it's symbolism of how society sees people and how it can damage them forever

The story that makes you stop to think about it. It shows the cruelty of people who don't even want to comprehend logically who is she. Driven by the fear and prejudice they condemned her to sadistic and painful death. Sad, but the most important question for everyone of us is whether we in our reality treat our brethren in the same way like those citizens. Do we try to understand and help the others instead of judging them and condemn them to the same fate like our heroine?

    Lyrics:
A man came across this old tower one day
It was straight like from a book he once read
He lifted his head up and saw this young lady
And here's what the lady said
    Moi je m'appelle mademoiselle noir
Et comme vous pouvez le voir
Je ne souris, ni ris, ni vis
    Et c'est tout ce qu'elle a dit. 1
The man was so scared he could only run away
He ran to the town and then said:
"I just saw a lady with the longest dark hair
    And I think she's a living dead!"
The people, so scared, took their guns and their swords
They ran to the tower and then
They saw the pale lady and felt a great fear
When they heard how she said it again:
    Moi je m'appelle mademoiselle noir
Et comme vous pouvez le voir
Je ne souris, ni ris, ni vis
    Et c'est tout ce qu'elle a dit. 1
The people, they knew what this all was about
She was clearly a demon from hell
They decided to set her long hair on fire
In the end it would burn her as well
But the lady was no demon she was a lonely soul
Just like in that book they once read
Still waiting for her prince while her hair was on fire
The one last time she said
    Moi je m'appelle mademoiselle noir
Et comme vous pouvez le voir
Je ne souris, ni ris, ni vis
    Et c'est tout ce qu'elle a dit. 1

Okay, but what if? What if that man WAS her prince? Like, hear me out, she was waiting for a long time, right? Well, her appearance probably changed after such a long time he didn't recognize her. Since Mademoiselle Noir speaks French, it would make sense for her prince to speak it to, wouldn't it? When she told him, "I don't smile, nor laugh, nor live" what if he misinterpreted her words and thought she was a living dead? He probably misunderstood the context of her words.

And since he said it to the people first, they already had the idea that she was some sort of monster. But whats much more sadder, is when he sees the book and thinks then realizes what is happening. But the fire has already begun the burning. Imagine how she must have felt when the towns people set her on fire? She had been waiting for a long time for her prince, instead she got people setting fire to her. If i were her i would be thinking what was wrong with me. She just accepted what was going on with such saddnes. OMG IM GONNA CRY!!😖

"And that's all she said." Gave me chills because not only is it the last thing she said it was also the meaning of those words. All she was an introduction that's all she said. It's like suddenly the realization that it was no demon's language or curse it was just simply her saying her introducing herself and she was killed for it. Something so simple yet it was so misunderstood. I feel like it was a taunt at the man in the beginning.

They didnt kill her because they didn't know french. The guy misunderstood her when she said I "dont smile or live or laugh". He thought that she was paranormal because she stated that she doesnt live. Her being in a tower with probably the longest hair he's ever seen didn't help her case either. And notice in song when it says "and they felt the great fear when they HEARED HOW SHE SAID IT again" the song doesn't state that they felt fear because they didnt know what she was saying. Its saying that they felt fear bc of what she said and how she stated it.

This suddenly reminded me of what happened 3 weeks ago to a man in Algeria, one region was on fire and he traveled miles far to volunteer and help the people, but then there was some random people who accused him of burning the forest, so they kicked him and burned him alive while taking selfies and laughing about it, then they decapitated him and kept recording videos and saying that this is what happens to anyone that would dare to harm them, but at the end of the day it was proven that the guy was an artist, who loved nature and was a really pure soul that always wanted to help people around him, even animals.
Its the story of a guy named djamel ben ismail who was killed in a brutal way by almost 200 people while screaming that he was innocent.

    lyrics
A man came across this old tower one day,
it was straight like from a book he once read
He lifted his head up and saw this young lady
and here's what the lady said:
    Moi Je m'appelle Mademoiselle Noir
et comme vous pouvez le voir:
Je ne souris, ni ris, ni vis
    Et c'est tout ce qu'elle a dit
The man was so scared he could only run away,
he ran to the town and then said:
"I just saw a lady with the longest dark hair
    and I think she's a living dead!"
The people, so scared, took their guns and their swords
They ran to the tower and then
they saw the pale lady and felt a great fear
when they heard how she said it again
    Moi Je m'appelle Mademoiselle Noir...
The people they new what this all was about,
she was clearly a demon from hell
They decided to set her long hair on fire,
in the end it would burn her as well
But the lady was no demon, she was a lonely soul,
just like in that book they once read
Still waiting for her prince, while her hair was on fire,
the one last time she said:
    Moi Je m'appelle Mademoiselle Noir...

one underrated thing that i noticed is there clothes, the townspeople have completely black clothes showing that they truly have a bad/dark intent to Mademoiselle, her "prince" however, have white marks in his clothes-- showing that he has no bad intent to her (he didn't bring weapons nor he was angry), just scared of her (and he pitied her in the end). does it make him a good person tho? not entirely, he did not stopped the townspeople from killing her that's why he still has black marks. as for Mademoiselle, i searched through google, yellow can mean hope, maybe she is truly hoping her prince will come and save her (idk, maybe im looking at this too much)

Although this is a fairly common story about people judging others before they can actually understand them, this is truly a beautiful portrayal of it. The imagery used in this amazing. The voice of the singer is amazing, particularly when she is singing in French. It is a masterpiece that has worked its way onto my list of favorites. Amazing work, and I do hope that you can make more things like this in the future.

This song is really interesting. There are many ways one can interpret the lyrics and so many different perspectives.
I myself find the line « Et c'est tout ce qu'elle a dit » really curious. Why would the lady say that “that’s what she said” at the end of her monologue? The people didn’t speak French, so maybe it’s the singer referencing Mademoiselle noir, but that wouldn’t be as fun. I would like to believe that it’s not only to accentuate how “weird” and “strange” Mademoiselle noir was, but that it could be something like the musings of a solitary person. Living alone in a tower for who knows how long would seriously damage someone’s mental health, so perhaps the French is a way to contrast Mademoiselle’s life with that of the common folk, with her monologuing to herself as a way to cope with loneliness and perhaps depression and the villagers just jumped in the “mental health?! That doesn’t exist!” wagon and called her a demon, not understanding the root of her problem. Perhaps Mademoiselle noir was in the tower because of health problems, mental health problems, or a mixture of both, and the people, scared of the unknown murdered the innocent women. But the worst character is the dude. He could have stopped them. He understood it was wrong. But even after the realization that he was wrong, he stood by, a passive force that could have made a difference, but instead let an innocent die.
May-haps that is one of the morals of this story. Do not let fear engulf you and stand by as evil is running rampant.
After all, those who let evil go unpunished are as bad as the perpetrators.

What a funny thing that i didn't even remember this song before it played on my old playlist...
It accompanied me during really dark times 3years ago and at some point it even became my lullaby... It made me remember that even if I wasn't understood at the time, that i dressed only in black, couldn't smile nor laugh heartfuly, I still had my own story and wasn't just what people saw in me. I've always had difficulties with self-trust/self-esteem and it kept me from dying a bunch of times. A beautiful song indeed.

I keep rewatching this and I still can't get over how tragic and beautiful it is. In such a shot video they show humans greatest fear, the fear of the unknown. The town's people could not understand her, the man could not understand her so due to this they became afraid. As she is burning she says her greeting again, that is when the man that found her understood what she was saying for the towns people dropped a book that had her story in it. By then it was too late, you can see the horror of the realization in on his face as you hear her last and final greeting. It's tragic becase lady black probably didn't understand what they where yelling as well, and was just as afraid as they where.

I mean, if someone that was exactly from a book that just happened to be lying around, in the exact same tower from that book, and can only say one line from that book, and all this was presumably close to a village where no-one had seen that tower there before, I'd start to get suspicious too.
