I used to think that a lot of the traditions regarding relationships were outdated, but as I get older I see them more and more justified. In this case: Having your parents approval before you get into a relationship with someone, because it's clear and admitted by these women themselves, that their vetting process ain't worth shit and their choice of men is making them miserable.
It's not just women that need help vetting though, men make wrong choices too. We have become a much more independent society overall. Asking the parent's blessing is still a good thing, so is having family input. I didn't listen to my family a long time ago, but learned they knew me best. I know someone now whose wife ended up cheating. His grandfather said he never trusted her from the beginning. Unfortunately the grandpa didn't speak up, because he thought he'd alienate his grandson and wouldn't be listened to anyway.
