You know what. I had loaded yuzu on my switch with 2 games just for testing purposes. This dude makes me wanna get a whole library of switch games on my deck just to spite him.
It should be on Nintendo's list of priorities to make a more capable Switch. The Steam Deck is proof that there is a market for powerful handheld hardware.
I'm surprised that Nintendo themselves aren't breaking down.
Nintendo can't actually do anything about it because valve would kick their asses in court as well 😂
@@Goldfire345 Nintendo has lawyers to turn the tables and if they do lose they have a lot of money to pay off any financial penalty
@@maplemiles3381 valve has probably just as many lawyers so I'd say the playing field is quite even there. And while they could pay back any fine, i imagine that loss will also come with a court order or mandate of some kind. But i could be wrong
They are, they're doing a lot of petty bullshit lately, like the Steamgriddb takedowns
Downloading and using emulators is NOT illegal, where you get the roms from is the grey area. Using roms made from backups of games you own is 100% fine, however downloading them from a torrent site is not legal.
Hence why rom sharing sites get hit with c&ds and lawsuits
But yuzu hasnt despite being very well known
@@V2ULTRAKill exactly I ALWAYS make backups of any Switch game I buy just on the off chance I lose them (which happens more often than you think).
Even downloading roms isnt necessarily illigal, as long as you have bought a actual copy of the game you want to emulate, what's illigal is due to copyright laws, which falls on the rom sites themselves as its viewed as freely distributing games without a licence to do so. But it's impossible to stop, avery rom site that gets taken down, another one pops up somewhere on the web.
@@adamduffield7782 thats... not at all acurate. it Illegal to download roms *regardless* of if you own a physical copy of a game or not. legally those are 2 different copies, and while you paid for one, you "stole" the other.
not that it matters, outside of situations where people are taken to court on highly inflated charges to make a point, individual users are almost never targeted by companies over piracy as its a very large number of people and is ultimatly a futile effort. they will go after the actual Rom sites, as bought up... but honestly? If game companies want to make it so rom sites and rom piracy go away, *they should sell their god damn games*
In the words of Gaben Himself, Piracy is a service problem. PC games Piracy is Super low as compared to console game piracy, because pretty much every game ever is availible on Steam or GOG for super cheap. the only big cases of PC Games Piracy are typically abandonware titles... which the only way to play them is Piracy anyway as they are not availible online Officially.
We watched him construct a false narrative live like cooperate news.
Love to see Harman Smith lose his shit.
Mans defends Nintendo to the end yet they still haven’t hired him Christ
I wouldn't hire him. What skill does he have besides being a simp for Nintendo, and a particularly dumb one at that?
"I am confident Nintendo will eventually make emulators Illegal"
OH BOY DO I HAVE NEWS FOR THIS GUY!
they tried that already. Sega, Nintendo and mostly Sony took the Emulator Conectix to court in the late 90s/early 2000s and lost spectacuarly. sony tried again late with a different emulator, and lost again. Nintendo Tried making emulators Illegal. they lost.
So Harman wants to take down emulation because its illegal, but at the same time saying emulators don't work and people are lying about it. He needs to stay in a lane.
Steam deck doesn't compete with nintendo? Well. They sold more than one million units in first 7 months only by Steam platform and there is rumor about giving it into stores so i think by scale Valve can compete with nintendo where nintendo had all stores around world and sold in first year 13 mln units of swich.
As a Steam Deck owner I can assure you the fact that it can emulate Switch isn't why I bought it. It's just the cherry on top. Yes, I emulate Switch games on my Deck, but I don't do it super often. It is nice not having to carry my Switch around anymore though.
Fr i bought it because being able to play "insert single player pc game here" on the plane, bus, etc or when i dont want to hunch over at my desk
Because im a lazy fuck who doesn't wanna rearrange my room so that i can give myself a couch experience with my main pc
True fact: this is cody's 15th video talking about the steam deck
Hope the ranting and bitching, and whatever clout that comes with it is worth letting people know about the books he want to sell them, lol, it'd be real sad if those are not getting sold lol
@@brandondudley3202 He also claims emulation is illegal and we all know how truthful that is.
I would absolutely _die_ for the Xenoblade and Metroid games to release on Steam. Most Pokémon games, BotW, Mario Kart Wii, Melee, and Smash Ultimate would also be _amazing_ on PC.
@@Vatrien It's my absolute favorite game and it's such a shame that it hasn't gotten a re-release yet. Maybe it would have gotten one by now if those obnoxious weebs didn't boycott the shit out of it over a missing boob slider and the 13 year old having a less skimpy default outfit. I was so annoyed about people being absolute babies about that.
I think something like Xenoblade would be more likely as it's not exactly Nintendo IP. They're the publisher. Sadly, with Mario and Zelda, that's pure Nintendo and I doubt they'll loosen the death-grip. I'd totally love to see it as well though.
@@LadyTsuki It is a Nintendo IP, though. They fully bought out Monolith Soft in 2007. They're a first party studio. Everything new that they've made since then is Nintendo's.

I love the peasants that do not understand emulation.
Can we make SteamPunks like an Official name instead of PCMR? Im gonna call myself a Steampunk from now on. Its a thing now. Thx.
Even if I were to give Nintendo the max amount of credit, I wouldn't say "they're waiting for a case to go after Yuzu." If they were smart, they'd study its code for future emulation/backward compatibility prospects. Don't they use Dolphin's code for their Gamecube emulation or something? I forget but I could have sworn I heard something along those lines.
Meanwhile, holy crap! "Let's make emulation illegal"?! Why?! I can see no pro-consumer reason for such a stance at all, no matter how hard I try to think of one. The only reason I can see is "Nintendo doesn't like it" and I don't care about that. You can't even argue the idea from an economic standpoint Emulation doesn't really put a dent in game sales. Or, at the very least, no causal link has been proven. That's true especially when you consider a good few people that emulate Switch games buy the game, but then play it on their PC for mods, better resolution, etc.
I love how he says Steam Deck buyers sit around doing nothing and don't play videogames. I'd say this guy is far more of a Nintendo simp than an actual gamer. I know, "no true Scotsman" territory, but he started it.
Oh yeah! And wasn't he also always saying "you can't be playing Switch games on your PC! You're lying!" yet now he's threatened by emulation? Ugh, logical inconsistency lv100. I'm almost starting to wonder if he's trolling at this point...
Sorry to break it to Harman... I dont even give a shyte about Nintendo. The last game I played by them was in the 90's which was Kirby.
God this dude must love being a simp for a corporation my god. I can't with his intro either.
"Stealing software from a gaming company" oh no whatever will multimillion dollar company Nintendo do
They aren't even selling or producing it which is the funniest part of this debacle 🤣
Woo, another video from Joe, let's go!
Man, Harmon is very salty about emulation.
And I can only imagine the salt that he will mine if Nintendo ever starts releasing its games on PC
Just googled it and it turns out they actually did sue them like 3 weeks ago, LOL.
The only illegal aspect of emulation is ROM/Iso file piracy
Which isnt an issue if you get a cartridge/disk reader and rip your games to emulate yourself
he really called Max a no name. This man has to be a troll lmao
Nintendo fanboys are a whole different breed of people. I love paying full price for a 4 year old game.
Is this guy an actual person? He comes off as some type of troll act. The entire demeanor feels fake and needing to poop.
You should see his take on the Blizzard/activision situation, guy seems 100% genuine and I mean a genuine POS.
ua-cam.com/video/GZr9rL4Wimo/v-deo.html
There's not only the Steam Deck, there's the Aya Neo, the Onexplayer and the GDP Win 4. All these devices are capable of running yuzu and emulate Switch games. That would be a lot of work for Nintendo's legal staff to try and stop any of these devices from using yuzu to play switch games. Love these "nintendo fanboys lose their shit" reaction videos.
Do these people not know about the connectix V sony case?
Not all roms are illegal, there is such a thing called abandon ware.
I've enjoyed handhelds since the gameboy. BUT I always walked around feeling like damn "wish I could play the real games I want to play right now" PC in my pocket I'd sell every handheld I had to get a steamdeck. These fanboys in your videos are gross people.
"If they got Nintendo to sue valve, and challenge the legality of emulation"
No offense, but the last time a company tried to challenge the legality of emulation (At least that I know of) it resulted in Emulation being declared 100% legal. Now of course rom distribution is illegal, as that is basically piracy, but the emulators THEMSELVES, the act of emulation, by itself is 100% legal.
There're a few more powerful than steam deck but they cost 1500 dollars and up
making emulators illegal... dude he has no idea how much virtualization is going on in the world especially on servers. that would be a nightmare
I know this video is really old but I got particularly activated over him legitimately believing there's no reason to have an emulator.
Just a few weeks ago I was playing Melee online with a friend ten states away and it felt almost exactly like offline because Slippi is based. You CANNOT DO THIS through any official Nintendo provided ways.
I don't understand people like this, if I showed this guy me dumping my physical 3DS games off my official 3DS hardware and playing them on my Steam Deck legally would he just be fuming?
People buy PCs only to emulate Nintendo Switch didn't you know? It's the only reason people buy PCs
It’s illegal to download switch games I think? But the emulator itself isn’t illegal.
Imagine being so sheltered you can't imagine people would want to play PC games on a handheld device
I don't know why, I was expecting a different fanboy
So we arent called steam punks we are called deckers
Man, nintendo ports on pc would be a great day for me
did my g just say maxmillan dood was a no name? he has 1.5 mil subs?
......emulating the games is legal but is it illegal to share/sell the roms?
Who cares? Nintendo isn't offering us any way to buy and play their older games, so, why not emulate those + their modern games? They're anti-consumer, they deserve to loose money.
Emulators are a product of reverse engineering hardware and writing code that makes your computer act like said hardware when running certain software. That is legal, even if promoting emulators might not be the best of optics.
ROMs/ISOs are copyrighted by the original publisher and are illegal to distribute without the copyright holder's permission (which is unlikely to be given).
Emulation is legal so long as you either play homebrew or personal backup copies, though this may vary based on your jurisdiction. Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.
I don't emulate switch on my steam deck that's overkill, I emulate gba, psp, ps1&2 on my steam deck. I emulate switch and ps3 on my pc for both better visuals and framerate duh.
I hate to say it but this game hasn’t aged well
Honestly, I'd say this is a pretty genious accident.
Imagine, STEAM DECK, Run Nintendo Switch games emulated here while also having access to your steam library. It feels like such good marketting, it almost feels like it was intentional. (Even though I know it probably wasn't.)
Yeah, it's pretty funny that he's this dense.
You're good at Apex
This guy gives Nintendo fans all over the world a bad name lol These so called "gamers" forget the point of playing games
let me go ahead and make a video of me with a hot take like this to get my views up
Theyre just elitist scumbags, this dude would have been an elitist over anything, just happened to be shitty consoles for this Habbo dude, not very intelligent.
Nintendo fanboys have already given themselves a bad name of being the most blind corporate bootlockers in the whole gaming industry, so this guy doesn't have to try much lol.
Im going to buy steam deck and emulate my Nintendo switch games just piss off this fanboy
If anyone is wondering Harman Smith's deal with Max, arguably one of the most wholesome content streamers out there it's because Max wants to Play Bayo 3 on Yuzu and thinks F2P fighters have the potential to be good. That's it, that's the only things that got Harman's panties in a bunch and why the channel with less then a thousands subs is calling the channel that is literally in the Guinness world record books "A nobody."
Alledgedly no, pc CAN play every Nintendo game in existance. Which might I add... IS SOMETHING NOT EVEN THE ACTUAL NINTENDO CONSOLES CAN DO!
I'm sorry but I don't recall anyone playing Mother 3 on the switch trough legal means. I mean it is possible, but you'd have to mod the console, as the game is not available on the Switch shop, and even if it was, it would never be released in the west.
Listening to people equate piracy and emulation in 2022 is one of the stupidest things, no one can tell me what to do with MY COPY of a game, nor is it even written in the conditions of use that has to be strictly on a certain hardware, in 99% of countries emulation is legal as long as you have your copy of the game and the emulator does not use code stolen from the console in question (which no longer happens because they tear down the emulator almost instantly). And well, if you're more concerned about people not paying for a game than playing that own game is that you have a name, FANBOY...Jesus...Is it so difficult to understand? I prefer to play at 1440p or 4k at over 60fps with texture packs on my pc than at 720/1080 30/60 with sawteeth that would cut my soul if they could go off the screen. Is it REALLY that hard to understand? I pay for the game, just like any standard consumer, if I can play it at better quality than what company X offers me, why won't I be able to do it if I am protected by law? PFFF, enough internet for today, I'm fkn tilted. IF YUZU OR RIUJINX WERE ILLEGAL, NINTENDO WOULD HAVE SACRIFICED THEM TO THE GOD MIYAMOTO YEARS AGO. So why is it still there? Playstation lost many lawsuits against ps1, ps3, psp emulators, even a ps1 emulator made by apple itself, without asking, without Vaseline, they simply announced it as a "gaming" option for mac and fuck playstation, and won the lawsuit, soo...bruh moment. Don't like emulators? Fine, but if they're done the right way they're not illegal in any sense, not even copies of the games themselves.
Well nintendo/technically/ has a "do not rip these files" clause in the eula of their games
But the fuck can they do about it
@@V2ULTRAKill Most EULAs are not enforceable in other territories, for example an eula of a U.S. company may or may not be applied in the European Union, in fact most UELA are an attempt to obtain control over which the rights law of author prevents having it, in most countries a EULA does not mean anything, there are certain countries that regulated this in very strict ways to literally put an end to piracy, an example that they literally cannot do anything is the AEVI, they threatened with prison for own certain copies of games, and it's a lie, they distorted the law as they wanted, what is illegal is to market those copies and make money from them, but FOR NOW dump a game and use an emulator to play it (as long as it is not an emulator that takes console code) is completely legal in 90% of countries
Why waste money on the steam deck when you can buy a actuall pc it's a waste of money
yeah really just take your $500 pc with you on the train it's the same thing guys
"Piracy is a crime" what's fucking hilarious about this statement is that videogame piracy was *decriminalised* here in the UK because it's just not worth wasting police and prosecutors' time on lmao
I'm pretty sure it's a crime here in Brazil as well, but I don't think I ever saw any law being really enforced on that front. Which explains why PS2 game piracy was so rampant here. Hell, I even played BOTW for the first time only because my pc can now run CEMU, cuz as much as I love Nintendo, there's no way in hell I'm buying a Switch just to play Zelda.
Piracy is such a non-issue. Oh no the multi-billion dollar corporation makes a tiny bit less profit, THE HORROR! It's also been observed that most people who pirate, end up buying the game, if they like it or can afford it.
That’s so fucking hard dude. I wish America. The land of the free. Would be more open to decriminalizing it and letting people make repacks and all here
