November 20th 2000, 7 year old Breea Renee notices something strange: “mom, there’s someone outside the window”. Michelle, a single mother who just built a peaceful life for two of them, thinks it’s just the child’s imagination, but her worst nightmare soon comes true only a day later. 3 masked men break into her house and hold them at gunpoint before strapping young Breea with dynamite. Michelle is given an unimaginable mission: rob the bank, or your daughter will be blown up. Michelle only has hours left to say goodbye to her daughter, before she sets off to Bank of America for the dangerous heist.

Duress and Cohesion. The woman could reasonably prove that the 3 men used force to coherice her into being an unwilling accompance, forcing her to commit the crime by threatening both her and her minor daughter. It’s also why a driver held at gunpoint to help bank robbers is not charged as being an accompance, while a driver that willingly helps is considered an accompance to the crime and is charged as such.

Also another reason why you don’t underestimate what your child is telling you or not think what they’re saying is correct. We were on a hike one day, and some of us got split up when we were heading back. My mom was with my brother, 6yo at the time, and our youngest cousin, 7yo at the time. There was a point where they came up to an intersection and didn’t know which way was correct. The kids both said left was correct, and said it in a way that they knew it was, but my Mom insisted right was, and after a mile of walking, found out left was correct and right wasn’t. They were so happy when she admitted her mistake 😂

I am also in the UK, yet I call myself an outsider looking in. You will have people accused of crimes (and non-crimes) based just on the word of someone and call it evidence. People are deemed guilty with no due process until trial. There are numbers of cases like that. Yet that would mean you need a lawyer / solicitor (whatever name you wish to give the beast). And it is not just the innocent that require legal representation. So do the guilty. We could go into the lack of sufficient sentencing for serious crimes, but that would be another subject.
So I will say again. Until you need one you will scoff and berate lawyers (or solicitors).

But it's not their job to LIE and make up stories to blame the victims when they know their clients are absolutely guilty. Not all laywers stoop that low, so we know that's definitely not a necessity to win a case.
