I applaud you for keeping the tradition alive and passing it on to your future generations. My son has been hunting with me for years and this is his first year as a shooter. If I can nitpick one thing that I thinking a valid criticism; you instructed your boy to remove the safety too early as he sat there for a while before it was time to shoot. While each person is a bit different, my muscle memory is set to remove safety as gun goes on target. Removing as early as he did could represent a safety hazard quite particularly in that standing corn. One other thing to be aware of and teach him to keep his eyes to the skies for falling birds. We had local hunters killed and severely injured 2 years in a row from falling geese. Don’t take the trigger safety as an insult as we can all help each other learn, but your boy should be learning to keep safety on till the very last moment.

That was great. My son had some great shooting when he was younger; but got "Hooked" on fishing and now works for one of the leading tackle manufacturers. I'm 77 and still shooting my share of geese,ducks,pigeons and crows. Hope I have got many a year left, as I can't imagine life without shooting.

I've tried goose meat. Not to my liking. But, to those who like it, there's plenty of 'em out there! I could eat it if I was really hungry. But, then again, I could eat groundhog if I were really hungry. I ate worse stuff in the Army!

Honestly, he's not wrong. It's the beginning of the season, the geese never get dumber than they are right now. Why not let them circle and try to decoy them? Instead sending BB's through a whole flock and wing shooting. @@weekendwarrioroutdoors7228

Is this in north Alabama? I have always dove hunted but just started waterfowl hunting a few years ago. Think i will try early geese this year.

Not my thing either. I dehydrate goose jerky for dog treats sometimes. Mostly just donate the meat.
