Why Right NOW is a Great Time to Learn Data Science

- In this video I talk about the 3 reasons why right now it is a great time to learn data science.
Right now the world is going through a period of change. It has been disrupted by illness, and will likely not return to how it was before. While it is a scary time, this can also be a great opportunity to reflect and to improve yourself.
Reason 1: You likely have more time than ever to learn data science. With social distancing your leisure time is changing. Most people likely will have to spend more time inside and you might as well use that time to learn data science or programming.
Reason 2: The culture of work will begin to shift. Generally, work from home will become more accepted in the workplace. If you have technical skills programming, data science, etc. you will be well equipped to deal with the new job market.
Reason 3: People are relying heavily on quantitative information.

Was an engineer in college, but drifted towards fitness and nutrition coaching as my career went on.
Industry is rocked right now, so I'm learning some Data Science on the side, and your videos are helping :)

As shocking as this may seem, I was briefly a health and exercise science major in college. I think there are great applications for data science in fitness and nutrition. Definitely leverage your knowledge there as well!
One of my favorite books is called the personalized diet. The researchers use machine learning to predict what foods will be best for each person based on their microbiome makeup. Definitely worth checking out if that is at the intersection of your interests!

Great video as always, but I will say this is a serious understatement. Now that I'm out of work, I am ever so glad that I have decided to pursue this career path. Three great reasons to pursue data science: 1. Do something positive for society and gain a strong sense of purpose. 2. Something to keep the mind stimulated which can greatly help with depression and anxiety. 3. A solid career that can potentially help someone avoid being homeless and going down a dark path. I think these are solid enough reasons to purse this field.

I’ve been learning a lot using my iPhone and I’ve gotten to that stage above the usage of a phone, kind of difficult getting a laptop but hopefully someday I’ll be able get one to practice with, Thanks for your motivations.

Hey Ken, what tools should I have on my laptop to use for python data science projects? Do you use an IDE?

Great video. When you say you expect the work culture to shift towards employees working from home, do you mean in the short-term i.e. while the pandemic is still going on, or do you see this just being the "new" working environment? Interesting insight.
From my point of thinking, I assumed he meant that once companies see that working at home can work efficiently for some professions, they will be more open to the option. Thats what I got from it.

I expect that they will realize soon that it isn't something to be scared of. I expect this short-term change will have a positive long-term impact for wfh life.
