    I had a habit of piling paper everywhere but I finally got it moved into my office area but still haven’t dealt with it. I’m pretty sure a lot of it is trash and shredding. I use to have a bigger hoarding problem when I was in my early adulthood and first married. I would just move all the stuff from one house to another. I had books from my junior high school library that they were giving away and school notes from high school when I was in nurse aid training cuz I thought I might need them one day but I never went on 😢continue the schooling after graduation. I finally realized in my mid 30s why I kept it all and it was cuz my I was younger we always moved a lot and I would lose things that I thought were precious to me. But, I love your channel and the tips you give. It helps me when I get stressed out with decluttering and cleaning. Thank you so much for letting me know it’s ok to take my time and deal with the stress associated with this.

    I remember years ago there was a mom help suggestion that if company was coming and you had stuff sitting around to throw the items in a box. One other suggestion was if you had dirty dishes to put the dishes in a tub and put under the sink. My little daughter proceeded to open the cabinet and showed the company what I did with the dirty dishes 🤣

    I don't think I have any hoarding tendencies but I definitely have a couple of #shove it in a box # crates. I can see one sitting in the corner of the bedroom... You've encouraged me to deal with that crate TODAY!

    It will be lovely when you have that hidden fireplace completely uncovered and decorated. Personally, I would throw out anything that was in the box with the mouldy stuff in it. This is because I wouldn’t recommend your boys playing with or displaying items that have been in a closed box next to mouldy things for that length of time, as mould spores can be absorbed into other materials which are invisible to the naked eye especially cardboard, paper and lightweight mixed plastics.

    If the bin has food items that have leaked or exploded and mold, I would consider set any other items in the bin a biohazard as well. I highly recommend getting two things for your basement to help with the air quality: 1) a dehumidifier that is constantly running at a certain humidify level that drains to a sink or sump pump pit (this will reduce the chance of mold growth in the basement), and an 2) air cleaner with a hepa filter (this will filter your air from toxins, mold, and viruses).

    • @ginamommy
      @ginamommy Рік тому +1

      Once I saw the mold I would toss the whole thing. Not worth keeping any of it including the bin!

    • @Natalie.D
      @Natalie.D Рік тому

      @@ginamommy especially since the toys in there were made of paper or cardboard. That’s a porous surface and can absorb moisture and therefore mold.

    Thank you so much for your videos,
    I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and Autism as an adult and I also
    Have really struggled with hoarding disorder through my life.
    I see a psychologist and I’ve told her about your videos and recently
    We talked abo how when you sort things you sometimes put things
    Into a box and say how you know it’s something you probably won’t
    Use or need again, but you need to hold onto it for a bit longer to Work
    through the emotional or physical reason you want to keep it.
    She and I both think that, that alone has been a massive help for me
    To not only recognise WHY I’m struggling to part with something but
    That it’s okay to have strong emotions to something with no real value.
    I moved house about 6 weeks ago and managed to massively downsize so
    Many of my things while still keeping them at an amount I can control
    And keep semi organised. Like I have only one tub of pens, pencils, erasers etc!
    In this video you threw away a lot of paper which my hoarding brain would always
    Want to keep and reuse to scribble on the back for notes or doodles etc,
    But I already have notebooks AND a small amount of re-used ‘scribble’ paper so
    I would too throw it away as it serves no purpose and would likely never be used.
    My new room while it usually is it some level of untidy, Can be clean and presentable
    In like 10 minutes!
    Thank you so much for all of these videos you post, you are helping to change so
    many peoples understanding of hoarding and adhd and how we can work through
    It all, one step at a time. ❤

    That box of papers and mail you hid from company reminds me of the bags and boxes of stuff I need to go through and toss. Probably two things out of 100 I might need. 😭 This is the year I get it done.
