    I have a 2018 R3 and I love it, I’ve been looking around for different mods as it is only a 5K bike so spending big money doesn’t make sense but what you did to yours is badass and looks super clean, I’m going to remove the rear pegs and the turning lights on the front just like you did, the stock turning lights look like toys to me and I hate how flimsy they are, I will definitely be referencing this video often, thanks again my guy!

    Your r3 looks great. Personally I think matte colors looks spectacular on motorcycles. I got a 2018 in black and I love it so much.
    I was looking into a yoshi exhaust but that coffman sounds pretty nice.

    • @aesonvirus
      @aesonvirus  5 років тому

      I took my time picking out the pipe because I wanted to hear as many as possible in person before making a decision. The M4 is great but a little too much for my longer commutes and the Coffman (for me) was a good balance of sound and looks. I also like how it didn't break the bank and was completely reversible as well.

    • @austinthornton4150
      @austinthornton4150 5 років тому

      AesonVirus yea that's something to look into. I want the yoshi for sound but it's a bit bigger than I'd like.
      If you haven't already seen it you should look at the exhaust from Taylormade. It's really sleek and sounds nice.

      @ii ii honestly im really new to motorcycling as well. I will say that so far im enjoying my r3 and havent had any issues out it yet.
      Would love to upgrade to an r6 since i like to ride on the highways often.

    • @aesonvirus
      @aesonvirus  5 років тому

      @ii ii That's a pretty difficult question to answer. Yamaha motors are pretty reliable and you should only really need to take care of maintenance during that time frame. You can find the owner's manual on Yamaha's website and that will walk you through what you can expect for maintenance during the time you have it. Oil changes and chain adjustments can be done at home for pretty cheap money. The manual does call for Valve Adjustments every 26k. You'd have to ask your dealer what you can expect to pay for that service but I don't expect it to be more than a couple hundred bucks. How quickly you burn through tires will depend on what kind of tires you choose and what your riding style is through those 50k miles.

      @Harry Might be too late on this comment but I'm going to say this anyway. I sold my car to buy and R3 and I couldn't be happier with the bike. Although I have a lot of fun riding on the daily, I really wish I would've kept my car and just saved up for the bike. Rainy/cold days suck man! Be patient and I hope this helps.

    In what way is r3 not good for commute? I though Small, cheap to run bikes would be perfect for commuting..?

    • @aesonvirus
      @aesonvirus  7 років тому +8

      I agree... it's a great bike for commuting. It just wasn't perfect for me. Everyone is different and for me, the ergos were slightly off. Not a huge deal but after 90 minutes on the R3, I was definitely ready to get off. My new bike has a much more extreme position and yet I find it more comfortable. On paper though, the R3 is fantastic for commuting.
      I also knew going into this that the R3 was temporary and for the year I had it, it served me well. If I could own two or more bikes, I would have kept it. Because I can only own one, the R3 just wasn't the perfect Goldilocks bike for me. YMMV.

    I'm thinking of getting my motorcycle license I never rode a bike before. I'm interested in the Yamaha 2019 r3 matte black with the white stripes. Thinking OG going with the m4 exhaust or the corrfman exhaust you have with the silver tip. Also see on you're bike the red lining that goes around your tire I want mines in white the ones that give it that glow effect I forgot what you call it. And also thinking of replacing the stock signal lights on the side of bike and replace it with the lights you have. I think the halo lights would stand out nice on that bike.

    • @aesonvirus
      @aesonvirus  5 років тому

      If you're new to bikes, I HIGHLY recommend taking an MSF class first. They'll teach you everything you need to know to stay safe on the road and if you do make a mistake, it will be on their bikes and not on your brand new ride.
      Invest in some training and decent safety gear. Good luck!

    How did you wire it up so that the integrated tail light and the lightech turn signals both work?

      I tapped into the taillight harness wires. I soldered into each wire and used heat shrink tubing over each connection. Came out pretty clean.

    Not sure if you're still responding to comments, but how come when I check the link for the Philips 127916000KB2 194 Bright White Interior Vision LED light, it says it is not compatible with my R3?

      Amazon doesn’t know every single match for every vehicle so if it’s not in their database as a direct fit, they won’t list it as such.
      That’s the exact item I purchased and it fit perfectly.
      Any 194 bulb will.

    I know this video is pretty old now, but I'm trying to decide between the levers you have on the bike or a set of CRG levers that I could get for the same price. ($130) What's your opinion on those vs true shorty CRG levers?

    • @aesonvirus
      @aesonvirus  4 роки тому

      Cody Barna Great question... if the CRG’s were available back when I bought levers, it would have been a tough decision. I’m now looking for levers for my Thruxton and I’m trying to decide between CRG, Pazzo, ASV and a few others. The Norton levers were great though... I don’t know if they have shorty options now tho.

    • @codybarna7969

      AesonVirus I decided to go with the Norton’s, I feel like the shorties would be a little to short so hopefully the 3/4 are a good balance. It’s a bummer he doesn’t make a set for your new bike.

    Did you ever consider upgrading the brakes? I've read a few places that they aren't the best out there.

    • @aesonvirus
      @aesonvirus  7 років тому +1

      They're 'okay' for around the town riding but if I kept the bike, new pads and steel lines were in order. I didn't know just how bad they were until I compared them to the Brembo brakes on my new Thruxton R... amazing difference. Yeah, the R3 brakes need upgrading.

    Ever thought of upgrading the tires? Like wider size.

    • @aesonvirus
      @aesonvirus  4 роки тому

      kitz manusig I never considered going wider. A fat tire looks good but I loved how quick the R3 tipped into corners with that narrower tire. I did consider a better compound though... the stock tires weren’t great in terms of grip. I just didn’t keep the bike long enough to get to changing them out.

    I'm getting a r3 soon for my 40 minute commute to work, I personally would of suggested that you either looked into getting maybe high rear sets? For a tighter triangle and a higher seat towards the back? Maybe that would have solved the seating position abit more? Anyway it looked the bollocks mate!

    I see so many bikes have the Sipes of the front tire mounted so that it a actually water to the center of the tire rather than moving water out from under the tire. It doesn't make sense to have them mounted as yours are !

      Looked into this a bit further… The syping on the front tire is designed to "push" the water FORWARD (away from) the tread. Conversely, the rear tire syping is designed to "channel" the water (BEHIND) the tread, making for a better contact patch.

    • @DavidSmith-wy5rb
      @DavidSmith-wy5rb Рік тому

      @@aesonvirusBeing that the center portion of the front tire tread makes contact with the road surface first and water it is always attempting to move water out from under and to the sides of the contact patch area. In order to do this the point of the V sipe, as here, should make contact first to start moving water out from in front/under the tread patch area and to the sides as the tire rotates forward. I can't see how an inverted ∆ would accomplish that as the wide portion of the inverted ∆ would make contact with the road surface first.

    • @DavidSmith-wy5rb
      @DavidSmith-wy5rb Рік тому

      @@aesonvirus How can the front tire sipeing ∆ push water ahead when it's already immersed in water attempting to move water ahead and to the sides of the upcoming contact patch area and the inverted sipeing A is actually traping water under the tire, where as V. sipeing would move water to the outside as the front tire rolls forward.
