Yeah, totally out of character for Egwene. In the books, Renna lived after this incident and later became a fugitive. She was taken as a hostage by Mat along with Tuon when they escaped Ebou Dar to join Valan Luca's Menagerie, that is, until Mat's men killed her with an arrow while she was trying to escape.
The books scene and structure of this is far, far more brutal and far more feminine. Egwene leaves her alive knowing that Renne has to live with the fact that she is what she despises most. One of the great shining lights of WoT is the exploration of how and why both men and women gather and use power and, sadly, this is horribly diluted or destroyed in the series.

Surprised she didn’t die herself. Well, not surprised. Egwene is the Dragon Reborn, considering all she has already done. Makes more sense than Rand at this point.
I think the reason Egwene was able to touch and use the a'dam on Renna was referenced earlier on in the series. Nyneve and Elaine were experimenting with the a'dam with that one channler who was a healer. When Nyneve channeled and focused on the collar, she made a comment that it needed to be healed. So, in essence, Egwnere using the a'dam to collar Renna could not be viewed as an act of violence, but rather an act of healing. She essentially found a loophole because putting a collar on a woman who can channel, though it constitutes enslavement, is technically "healing" them. So even if Egwenes intention was to turn the tables on Renna and then harm her, the initial act of placing it on her could be considered more an act of healing rather than violence. That being sent, I did hope the Egwene would light Renna on fire or something. Sher deserved a much more grisly demise than this.

Egwene did not use the collar as a weapon. The T Adam does not hurt women who it is put on. Only they can inflict pain on themselves when they attack their soul Dal
You're missing the point and clearly not even watching the same clip if that's your take. They feel an immense amount of pain if they try to cause pain to their sul'dam. Egwene had been facing that pain for weeks by that point, her will was stronger than Renna's. You can see that even as Egwene is inflicting it on Renna, she is struggling because of how much it hurts her. She is only kept alive by force of will.
So earlier, Egwene couldnt even touch a pitcher of water because she may use it as a weapon. Now, with her collar still on, she can put the collar on Renne, knowing full well she's going to use it as a weapon? And somehow she doesn't get hurt when trying to channel the power to hang Renne, knowing that she's using the one power to hurt her sul'dam? Make it make sense...
honestly, I felt the same way, but then I remembered what was said earlier, that the adam was a magical artifact that wants to be complete by being with a woman who can channel. Maybe that magical pull overrules the rule of not harming your suldam. Plus it is not a weapon, and Egwane could not have been 100% certain it would harm her suldam.
It was crazy though that the things couldn't be removed unless they died. Like damn "made for a woman" is what they said. Wild. However, I really did want more build up before all of this and wanted Egwene to really learn some power spells and etc.
it's not a weapon, it's seen as a tool to save those that otherwise would have to be destroyed. By Egwene it would simply be seen as tool, since she isn't attacking her with it she's just putting it on her, like pouring a cup of water.
That's how you see the collar. As an outright weapon, but technically that not what it is. It's a collar used to restrain certain people and prevent them from physically hurting their master. Technically not a weapon outright. Like handcuffs. Simply handcuffing someone doesn't hurt them. It just restrains them.
She shouldn't be able to touch an a'dam though. Let alone inflict harm on a sul'dam who is holding her leash. I think the complaints are justified. It's not how the a'dams work. This makes them much less of a threat than in the books, where they are absolute and can even hold down a full blown Forsaken. It also breaks magical rules of the established universe. Since this was relatively a hard magic system, when the show dispenses with the rules it takes the point of it being a hard magic system away. Now, leashes and angreals can just....do whatever the plot wants...
people who r fighting abt how egwene was able to weild the collar even tho it was a weapon well she dint nesseserily touch it , she just used one power to put it on renna so its possible
Anything seen as a weapon cannot be used by the damane... Oh wait, there is one exception : when the showrunners have no clue what to do to wrap up their story. Egwene should never have been able to collar the girl as she was clearly seeing this as a weapon to use...
She wasn't bashing Renna over the head with the collar, was she? The a'dam only keeps you from physically injuring your sul'dam, not putting a collar around their neck.
@@matthewhelland9258 somehow a vase is considered a weapon and the collar that enslave someone is not seen as a threat 🙃 Maybe next we can argue egwene used the collar on her in the midst of battle, after getting almost killed by Renne for disobeying her orders because she thought it would make her pretty?
@@Thestaalos What part of "physical harm" is so hard to understand? The collar's only a tool, programmed to stop violence. Putting a collar on Renna did nothing to hurt her in and of itself.
You’re so mad 😂 the show does everything about this series better. If you want a one-to-one translation, you should probably get into theatre instead of film 🤷🏻♂️
She's a piece of s*** in the books as well even after Falme. The writers, correctly, realized having her die would be a incredibly cathartic moment, and I agree, as their entire way of life is fked and needs to be burnt to the ground
love that the video title says she outsmarted her, but renna had no way of knowing that egwene would have the bad writing of the showrunners on her side and would be able to ignore the rules of the a'dam. Honestly this arc and the entire last episode of the second seasom is the reason people hate on the show. Why has she to save herself? let her be rescued! let her be traumatised. Let her grow. But nooo, she has to ignore the rules of the magicsystem, after that fight one of the forsaken (how, wtf. why is is he just using one stupid weave to attack) all to show how strong she is. But in reality the arc does not even show that. She does not have a trauma to overcome. She does not need to grow and learn from this. Also Nyneave and Elayne just are useless in falme in this version, because they just do nothing. And the forsaken look weak, because yes, egwene is strong, but ahe barely had any teaining. She should not be able to fight one of them. Just makes them look like clowns. It is those changes, thar nobody asked for and that in the long run will weaken her developement and the story.
Another example of Rafe Jenkins' fanfiction messing up a masterpiece. This doesn't happen in the books. At all. In the books, EVERYTHING is perfectly set up. Nynaeve and Elayne capture a sul'dam, Sera, and collar her, despite Min saying it doesn't work. Nynaeve discovers it does work. The original plan was for Nynaeve to put the collar on Elayne, get the info they need from Sera about the interior of the house where Egwene is held. Nynaeve changes this upon realizing what the 'a'dam does, and what a filthy thing it is. Change of plans: Sera is now the damane, Nynaeve dresses up as a sul'dam, no stupid tattoos in the book, and while Rand is clashing with Turak, they go to rescue Egwene, who has figured out what is happening with the sul'dam and damane. Egwene's explanation makes FAR more sense than the drivel Jenkins wrote: Damane are the girls who are naturally gifted, like Nynaeve, Egwene and Elayne. Sul'dam are the girls who can be taught to channel. At this point, Renna, yes, in the books it is spelled R-e-n-n-a, ending in an "a", waltzes in, Egwene snaps the a'dam on Renna, and tortures her with it, finally relenting at the urging of the others and her own disgust. They leave Sera and Renna bound to the a'dam, and the kettle of fish that this will cause, and then depart, with Sera and Renna still having future roles and parts to play. Jenkins' unnecessary changes to the novels have all been unqualified disasters, creating chain reaction disasters. The scene as portrayed here makes ZERO sense, and ZERO logic, even in the rules Jenkins sets for his verision. This is just sad what is being done to such a great work.
yup, i now remember why i quit watching as soon as i saw avienda. shes supposed to be a dessert beauty, but they cant bring themselves to cast attractive actors or risk the social backlash for reinforcing traditional beauty standards.
@@abcdefbcdefg8352 Reinforcing traditional beauty standards? So what, you're expecting to see blonde hair, blue eyes and pale skin in characters from the Aiel Wastes, a region that's essentially a desert? If anything, you're far wrong on the fact that the actors are unattractive because Ayoola Smart is one of the most beautiful women in the cast besides Nynaeve's actress and the fact that they kept her natural features for the character makes a lot of sense given that they are likely adaptations to the climate of the region that she comes from. Why don't you just say you're a racist and keep it moving?
The people of the Aiel waste are supposed to be very tall, and have red hair, just like Rand. While in our world it would make more sense for Aviendha to look like her actress, in the WOT, the world was broken, and no people were in the regions their ancestors adapted to. The world map given by Jordan bears little resemblance to our own. The actress is certainly not ugly, but she certainly is miscast based on the very involved world-building given in the book.
I sort of get where your coming from, but nah. You seek to control people on that level then you reap what you sow. Egwene be forgiving, but not imma make you my mana bitch for life forgiving. Few of us are, or should be.
She's actually dead in the books too. She was killed by a crossbow bolt shot by Gorderan and an arrow from a double curve horsebow shot by Harnan. This happened in Crossroads of Twilight.
Emotionally very satisfying, but makes no logical sense. You can make whatever excuses you want about the collar 'not being a weapon' or putting it on a woman who can channel is 'healing' it, but that's just copium. She very clearly intended it to harm Renna, and even if you can jump through the mental hoops to justify that part, she used it to choke Renna out, which was absolutely intended to harm her. Renna couldn't punch her, but she can choke her to death? Obvious plot hole.
Did I miss something ? I get that this was slavery but I feel sorta bad bc I don’t think the tattooed girl even understood that. She seemingly was raised to believe this was the way the world would be saved. Like similar to religious indoctrination. So I feel a bit bad.

what little i've seen of the show (mostly first few episodes and then clips of later parts here on youtube) it doesn't look bad, but as usual the books are way better. there's only so much you can do with limited screen time, cuts have to be made and then changes to make the cuts work. It's nice they finally made a show after all these years, but yeah... read the books.
It's similar thematically, but Renna lives and is kept leashed at least for a while. I don't remember what ultimately happens to her. She and another one or two captured sul'dams who are aware that they are channellers are around in the story for a while. Egwene does free herself and collar Renna, IIRC through some kind of mental trick to be able to access her own a'dam. But you can't convey that kind of thing on screen, at least not without inventing some kind of annoying expository device to show how she reasons it out. Not so much a matter of time constraints as of format constraints. The issue as a whole is (probably) not going away. The Seanchan themselves are most definitely not done, and a particular "sul'dam" is going to play a huge role starting probably 2-3 seasons down the line, unless they decide for some unfathomable reason to change the character drastically. She's one of my favorite characters despite being objectively awful, and it's going to be interesting to see how people react to her.
@@BlueCyann no that's not how it goes. Nynaeve and Elayne captured a sul'dam and forced her into a collar so they could sneak to where Egwene was and free her. Renna then shows up and Egwene forces the collar on her and inflicts pain on her. Nynaeve ultimately decides on justice, of leaving the two sul'dam collared in the room to meet their fate when it's revealed sul'dam are women who can learn to channel while demane are the women born with the spark to channel Egwene doesn't free herself, she literally can't, that's why Nynaeve and Elayne are there, to save her but the show took away their purpose to break their established rules to give Egwene a girlboss moment that makes no sense

She didn't just flip a switch and become the most powerful channeler and wipe out everything as she did at the end of Season 1. The actual Egwene isn't a Mary Sue in the books, but on the show she definitely is a Mary Sue.

And yet you come here to complain like a baby which make you an idiot Why to waste to many energy to hate something instead of keep going with the things you like?
I thought they had done Egwene's plot really well until this moment. They didn't even follow the show adam lore, there is no way Egwene wasn't thinking of hurting Renna in this scene and that she could kill her like that with pretty much no physical consequences. It also make it look like the other channelers simply didn't try hard enough to get out of it😕 the terrifying point of the adam is that it doesn't matter how strong of a channeler you are or how strong your will is, you just can't get out of it by yourself. This is going to hurt a future important plot point. Also it pretty much made all of the Elayne and Nynaeve scenes of studying the adam and capturing a suldam completely pointless.
This is the only thing from season 2 I've seen and I only watched because I knew it would confirm my opinion. Rafe Jenkins can't tell a better story than the one he was hired to adapt. I am speechless there is a world where Rafe Jenkins can get paid to butcher someone's life work. I watched part of season 1 until I couldn't take it any more, only this clip from season 2. This is not the Wheel of Time series. This is fan fiction about the Wheel of Time series. I'm sure many others have said the same thing. What a waste. It's the rare series that gets a second chance so we're stuck with this crap. I'm just thankful he can't edit the books.
Rafe's only claim to fame was #6 survivor season 10 of Survivor, he did a couple episodes of Marvel tv series but I'm sure was fired... how the hell he got this Best Book Series ever! to show run is beyond me, Bezos must have known nothing about how epic this book series is... I hope Bezos watches it and fires Rafe...
Why would Amazon hire a guy who has never published anything but thinks he can write a better story than the one that's so popular Amazon paid millions for the rights to adapt it? There is no explanation that makes any sense whatsoever.
Episode 8 of season 2 is pretty good if you know nothing of the book series. If that is the case, enjoy it. If you DO enjoy this; you really should read the book because its like 3 or 4 times as good as this. For one thing, everybody is there for a reason and contributes. They don't fumble helplessly with an arrow wound while Egwene solo's everything. Why are Nyneave and Elayne even in this scene? They are there to free Egwene. Also, Rand is the ONLY one who can stand a chance against Ishameal. Fact. Egwene cannot " hold him off " for 4 minutes just cuz she is mad!!!! OMG I AM MAD so facts don't work on me! Nyneave, one of the best (if not the) healers in the entire world, cannot heal an arrow wound.......... but Elayne (known for only being able to heal a bruised cheek) heals Rand's wound........... Rand's wound that he DID NOT GET FROM MAT. Also, Mat does not make his spear from tying a dagger to a stick. ffs............. Enjoyed Lan and Moiraine's beach scene but it did not happen. They were not even there. Hopper did not die here either. Also, the Horn scene is one of the top 10 in the entire series. It is simply amazing. The end of book 2 is epic. The show's was OK; but not a patch on the book. As I said. I enjoyed this sequence, it is entertaining. It's so far from accurate tho, its too bad. Book is SO MUCH BETTER.

You can see that even as Egwene is inflicting it on Renna, she is struggling because of how much it hurts her. She is only kept alive by force of will.
Can't find Wheel of Time here....
An Aes Sedai cannot lie.
Egwene, Leader of the Black Aja. All hail, Egwene.
Can anyone tell how this scene was like in the books? Does Egwene put the A'dam on Renna in the books too?
This was so satisfying.
It was poor writing because she shouldn't have been able to use it.
That’s exactly what I thought. Maybe they could have done something like hers breaks off, because of her sheer will?
@@leoguerra2502 that would have been better and more plausible
honestly, I felt the same way, but then I remembered what was said earlier, that the adam was a magical artifact that wants to be complete by being with a woman who can channel. Maybe that magical pull overrules the rule of not harming your suldam. Plus it is not a weapon, and Egwane could not have been 100% certain it would harm her suldam.
because she wasn't thinkign of usign it as a weapon she was thinking "collar this SulDamne before me some the collar allowed it
I get that this a bit of a plot hole but god damn i was cheering for her to die 😅
It was crazy though that the things couldn't be removed unless they died. Like damn "made for a woman" is what they said. Wild. However, I really did want more build up before all of this and wanted Egwene to really learn some power spells and etc.
I gave up on this series after season 1. Might have to check it out again. Looks like they did Falme well
Satisfaction level unlimited
so at the beginning, Renne didn’t notice Egwene wearing a gold bracelet?
how was Egwene able to touch the collar? She thought of it as a weapon, no?
It stops you from causing physical harm, placing the necklace did not hurt her
it's not a weapon, it's seen as a tool to save those that otherwise would have to be destroyed.
No.
@@baneblackguard584how is she not ‘attacking’ her when Egwene lift her up and choke her to death? Wouldnt Egwene be receiving self infliction too?
does anyone know when the new season is going to start
Next year probably
The way people are complaining about how she was able to touch her dont see that Egwene didnt lay a hand on her even here
She shouldn't be able to touch an a'dam though.
Those objects are dangerous to them. Why would they just let them lie on the ground for anyone to pick them up?
It was from one of the other pairs that got vaporized earlier
people who r fighting abt how egwene was able to weild the collar even tho it was a weapon well she dint nesseserily touch it , she just used one power to put it on renna so its possible
Who's here waiting for season3
Renna only give training to Egwene to be able to kill her.
All of this is so much better in the books!!!
So, if they're both each other's slaves, will they feel the same pain or will it double?
Что это за фильм?

Anything seen as a weapon cannot be used by the damane... Oh wait, there is one exception : when the showrunners have no clue what to do to wrap up their story. Egwene should never have been able to collar the girl as she was clearly seeing this as a weapon to use...
She wasn't bashing Renna over the head with the collar, was she? The a'dam only keeps you from physically injuring your sul'dam, not putting a collar around their neck.
@@matthewhelland9258 somehow a vase is considered a weapon and the collar that enslave someone is not seen as a threat 🙃
Maybe next we can argue egwene used the collar on her in the midst of battle, after getting almost killed by Renne for disobeying her orders because she thought it would make her pretty?
@@Thestaalos What part of "physical harm" is so hard to understand? The collar's only a tool, programmed to stop violence. Putting a collar on Renna did nothing to hurt her in and of itself.
The collar isn’t a weapon though.
The person is the weapon
You’re so mad 😂 the show does everything about this series better. If you want a one-to-one translation, you should probably get into theatre instead of film 🤷🏻♂️
Xelia's performance as Renna is outstanding, truly. Renna deserved a redemption arc. We could've had it all.
She's a piece of s*** in the books as well even after Falme. The writers, correctly, realized having her die would be a incredibly cathartic moment, and I agree, as their entire way of life is fked and needs to be burnt to the ground
Lol absolutely not. Good riddance to Renna.
Absolutely not; she is an absolute scumbag in the books, it doesn't improve after she escapes falme
I shipped them lol.
made more sense in the book where it's I think Nyanaeve who puts the Adam on her
It is egwen who did it, i just read that part
This comes off as silly.
love that the video title says she outsmarted her, but renna had no way of knowing that egwene would have the bad writing of the showrunners on her side and would be able to ignore the rules of the a'dam.
Stone cold Egwene
Egwene's explanation makes FAR more sense than the drivel Jenkins wrote:
Damane are the girls who are naturally gifted, like Nynaeve, Egwene and Elayne.
I agree, chain reaction disasters are coming... #FireRafe

Shame this *never* happens in the books, and Renne isn't dead...
Renne was collared in the books, but it was after Egwene was freed in the kennel by Nayeve and Elane.
She's actually dead in the books too. She was killed by a crossbow bolt shot by Gorderan and an arrow from a double curve horsebow shot by Harnan. This happened in Crossroads of Twilight.
Then Its a Good Thing I have not read the Books.😉

Ahahahahaha jokes aside, the books really are great. I recommend them if you have the time
Emotionally very satisfying, but makes no logical sense.

Still a good scene, even though from what I’ve read in the comments isn’t what really happens in the book.
what little i've seen of the show (mostly first few episodes and then clips of later parts here on youtube) it doesn't look bad, but as usual the books are way better. there's only so much you can do with limited screen time, cuts have to be made and then changes to make the cuts work.
Nynaeve ultimately decides on justice, of leaving the two sul'dam collared in the room to meet their fate when it's revealed sul'dam are women who can learn to channel while demane are the women born with the spark to channel
Egwene doesn't free herself, she literally can't, that's why Nynaeve and Elayne are there, to save her but the show took away their purpose to break their established rules to give Egwene a girlboss moment that makes no sense
